Alexis Bledel is Back on TV Next Month!

Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore) is guest starring in an episode of Motive next month! The acclaimed Canadian ‘whydunit’ crime drama begins its third season on March 8 on CTV. Here’s a pic of Alexis on-set,  Instagrammed by co-guest-star Ben Hollingsworth.

For the uninitiated, the formula of this show reveals the killer and the victim at the start of the episode, with the detectives (hopefully) unravelling the MOTIVE of the crime as the plot progresses.  I’m assuming Alexis is either the killer or the killee… with that scrubby haircut and very un-Rory-like shirt, I’m pretty sure she’s a psychopath.  We should follow proper Stars Hollow town meeting decorum and vote – if you think Rory’s the killer, raise your hands…

Her episode is currently slated for March 22, 10pm ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO. Mark your calendars eh?

I’ve been suffering a certain Alexis-less-ness recently and found that her series ‘Us & Them‘, which was tragically cancelled last year, appears to be floating around the internets. We thought the show had a lot of promise – a solid cast, strong pedigree and of course, Alexis.  If I can get hold of it, I shall report back. Has anyone already seen Us & Them?

Are you already watching Motive?  If not, will you be switching over on Sunday nights?

Lauren Graham to Host The Late Late Show on Thursday night!

Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) will be guest hosting The Late Late Show tomorrow (Wednesday) night. (edit) on Thursday night!   CBS lists Ray Romano, Busy Philipps and Tom Papa as her guests, nestled nicely between Matthew Perry on Tuesday and Jimmy Kimmel on Friday.

The show airs at 12:35am ET / 11:35 CT, catch it when convenient.

Was Lauren ever on The Daily Show?  I always that would have been appropriate, after she enjoyed it so much that night at Digger’s place…

ABC also announced this week that Lauren will be one of the many celebs appearing on their new show Repeat After Me. The show is produced by Ellen DeGeneres and will be based on her hidden camera bit, where the celeb has to repeat what Ellen communicates through the celeb’s secret earpiece. Wendi McLendon-Covey will be fronting the show and I can’t help think that Wendi will have Ellen talking into her earpiece.

Other celebrity participants will include Ellen Pompeo (Meredith from Grey’s Anatomy), Justin Bieber and Michael Bolton. So naturally, ABC promises ‘high-energy, comedic hidden-camera situations’.  Stay tuned Tuesdays at 8:30pm ET.

With Parenthood done and dusted, it’s great to see Lauren getting more air time . Hopefully we’ll see more of her soon, if the Ellen DeGeneres-produced project Kate on Later comes to fruition.

You Can See the Gilmore Girls Reunite in June for $175!!

The ATX Television Festival announced today that as part of their annual celebration of television, they will be reuniting stars Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore), Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore) and show creator, writer and director Amy Sherman-Palladino in June next year. Expect the air to turn blue.

The festival runs from June 4 to June 7 and you can currently buy a weekend pass for US$175. The $125 passes have already sold out and will go up to $225.

What are you waiting for? Click this link and Buy A Badge:

Amy Sherman-Palladino said:

So after years of peace and quiet these lunatics have chosen to get the chattiest chicks in the world back under one roof? Really? Okay… You asked for it….Gilmore was the highlight of my ridiculous life. I can’t wait to sit with these unbelievable broads and relive a time where sleep did not exist where stress and coffee were mama’s little helpers and where we all dove into the deep end together to make something weird and very very cool.

I’d bet my back teeth more of the show’s alumni will also be in attendance.

I cannot wait to see what comes out of this. The last four words, opinion about the last (Palladino-less) season, plans for something – anything – next? Any opinions on whether this is why Lauren, Alexis, Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore) and Amy might (or might not) have met up earlier this year?

I’ve got a wedding that weekend that I cannot miss – so please please please will someone go so we can live vicariously through you?

The Town Troubadour plays Nashville!

Hipster spectacles? Check. Twelve-string acoustic? Check. Portable microphone amp, a deliriously cool repertoire and a solid chunk of Stars Hollow cool? Check, check and most certainly check. Ladies and gentlemen, the Stars Hollow Troubadour, Grant-Lee Phillips.

who you gonna call?

From his first appearance in season 1, leaning on a lamp post as a bus brings Rory to Dean, to his final wandering around the haybale maze in season 7, Phillips’ recurring role as ‘Grant’ saw him accompanying a number of poinient moments as a wandering musician. He added a gloopy amber warmth and comedy to the flavour of Stars Hollow – anywhere else in the world he’d be a busker but in Stars Hollow he’s The Troubadour.  With his trademark brown box amp and headgear, he resembled a one-man band crossed with a Ghostbuster – a Ghostbusker if you will.

Ahead of his show tomorrow (Weds November 5 2014) at the City Winery in Nashville, the Nashville Scene featured an interview this week, with Phillips giving some choice glimpses into his time on Gilmore Girls.

It always felt like some great coup was being pulled: How on earth could this wholesome family drama find its way to welcome the likes of me? Sonic Youth? Sebastian Bach? You know, it’s just a crazy thing.

It’s hard to imagine a Stars Hollow without him.

They had me lean against a lamppost and play a song and maybe next episode they had me lean up against a tree.  We exhausted all of the things I could lean up against.

My favourite Troubadour moments include the five seconds of Heavenly he plays as Dean and Rory cross a street; and Lorelai barging into him mid-song (a cover of Cat Stevens’ Peace Train), the girls laden with preposterously tall rucksacks.

Rory: Coming through! Heavy bags.
Lorelai: Out of our way Peace Boy! No offense, love the song.

My outright favourite moment is just watching him sing and groove – his hair grown out like Ben Folds – to the wonderful Lily-A-Passion from his 2004 Virginia Creeper album.

If you’re in Nashville, why not go say hi? I’m sure he won’t mind if you start whistling along.

everybody needs a little sanctuary *whistle*

And check out the full Nashville Scene interview here.

Favourite Troubadour songs or covers? Troubadour highlights?  Have you been following Grant-Lee Phillips?  He’s got a new album coming out next year y’know.

Catching up (kinda) with Gypsy the Mechanic

I often find myself (especially on quiet news days) wondering what’s happening with the Gilmore Girls cast these days.  Michael Winters (Taylor Doose) will hopefully be playing something wonderful again at the Seattle Rep next year and Sean Gunn (Kirk) will be shooting up the raccooniverse in a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy but what of Gypsy the mechanic?

No, but he was carrying it in a canvas bag with a big dollar sign on it.

Rose Abdoo has been keeping incredibly busy on the small screen.  Since the cancellation of Bunheads, she’s had recurring roles in Pretty Little Liars, Parenthood, Shameless and The Comeback as well as appearances in The Mentalist, Psych, The Millers and Sofia the First.

Her turn on Parenthood was particularly poignant – she played a cancer sufferer – and was cast in the part a year after she finished chemotherapy in real-life.  She was diagnosed with cancer of the appendix in February 2011, which is a rare type of cancer so difficult to diagnose, it has an almost 100% mortality rate.  However, she is now in remission and evidently making the most of life.  Here’s a podcast from last year where she talks about what she’s been through and her time on Parenthood.

Next up is an appearance in the opening episode of Castle season 7, at the end of this month.  Two theatrical releases are also due later this year: Welcome to Me – with Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell – a comedy about a woman with borderline personality disorder who winds millions, quits her meds and buys her own talk show.  And Cake with Jennifer Aniston and Anna Kendrick, a drama – maybe dramedy – about a woman who becomes fascinated by the suicide of a woman in her chronic pain support group.

Anything of those tickle your fancy?  Have you been following Rose Abdoo?  Spotted her in something unexpected?  Favourite Gypsy moments?  Will anyone give me odds that she’s the one that did it, in Castle?

[I’ve been enjoying Sofia the First much more than I should.  Some of the songs are brilliant (the theme tune is straight from the 80’s) and when the real Disney princesses make guest appearances… well, it’d make any fangirl squeal.  But their songs are rubbish.]

The Return of the Gilmore Boys

There’s a veritable Gilmore Girls pickle-fest coming up in the new series of Chosen.  Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls’ Jess Mariano) stars as a lawyer tasked with becoming an assassin to protect his family.  In season two, he’ll meet Chad Michael Murray (Gilmore’s Tristan DuGrey), a bartender who finds himself in the same predicament.  Here’s a picture of them squabbling over a pistol.

Jess vs Tristan

As if they weren’t enough Gilmore eye candy, Brandon Routh (the naughty frat boy who lures schoolgirls away from Bangles concerts and one-time Superman) is also set to appear in series two.

If memory serves, Jess and Tristan never crossed paths, though they shared Dean as a nemesis.  Most of the young guys did pretty well out of Gilmore Girls, didn’t they?  Milo memorably went super in Heroes, Chad squeezed every last ounce of angst from One Tree Hill, Jared’s still fighting monsters in Supernatural, Adam Brody went to The O.C. and Matt Czuchry is still taking names in The Good Wife

I would have liked to have seen Jess and Tristan face off.  Of all of Rory’s other beaus, I think Tristan could have acquitted himself well against Jess – they were both bad boys.  But would Tristan really have had a chance with Rory? Maybe in a different world, if he hadn’t been all Tristan-y.

Who was your favourite Gilmore Boy, be it main cast or teeny tiny cameo?  Pick three: one to kiss, one to marry and one to push off a cliff.  My three… Richard (man of experience), Digger (makes me laugh) and Dean (I’ll build my own car thankyouverymuch).

Lauren Graham’s Book Countdown! Are you a True Graham Cracker?

Lauren Graham’s debut novel, Someday, Someday, Maybe is officially released one week from today, on April 30th.  On May 3rd, she’ll be in New York at the Random House Open House in the morning, then at Union Square Barnes & Noble in the evening.

the author-to-be, Lorelai Gilmore - I mean - Lauren Graham

I don’t know what they’ve done to her eyes in that picture but anyway, looks like tickets are still available for the Open House and if you need it in print, Nookbook, Kindle, or audiobook, there’s this thing called the internet.  Or better still, support your friendly neighbourhood bookstore, if you still have one.

How hardcore a Graham Cracker are you?  Have you pre-ordered the hardcover version AND the audiobook (unabridged and read by Lauren herself)?  Have you booked your vacation around both Barnes & Noble appearances, in NY and LA?  Can you spell ‘restraining order’?

I’m plumping for the audio version because a) at the speed she talks, it’ll be quicker than reading it myself and b) it’ll be like she’s reading me to sleep every night.  Night night, crazy Lorelai lady.  How about a trilogy next?

(Bonus! Through the magic of The Facebook, pre-ordering can bag you an autographed bookplate and an invitation to a video chat with Lauren on SSM Eve, April 29th.)

Thanks to the Sophie Kinsella for the RH heads up.  With friends like those…
