Melissa McCarthy Rocks “Bridesmaids”

Melissa McCarthy (Sookie on Gilmore Girls) has received a lot of very positive feedback for her role in the movie Bridesmaids. Her character, Megan, is described by the MTV Movies Blog as “the tough-as-nails and most absurdly inappropriate member of an already rowdy group of bridesmaids,” saying it is a breakout role for Melissa. She’s been described also as a scene stealer.

EW interviews Melissa and talks about how this film could lead to better roles for women in films and on tv.

If you see a script with two great female parts it’s a win. But six! Six in a movie, six fully formed great characters.

Melissa is finally getting her props as an actress and roles are now being written specifically for her – no more sidekick parts! Director of Bridesmaids Paul Felg is writing a romantic comedy centring on Melissa.

Melissa shot Bridesmaids while shooting Mike & Molly, just recently after giving birth to her second daughter, her first (Vivian) being now three. She doesn’t sleep, as you can imagine!

Talking of her character, who is a bit more “manly”:

Sure, sure [she's a potential man]. But – she’s the one getting all the guys. And I get the guy in that movie, so there you go. And it’s my real life husband Ben – he’s in the movie. And I really grossly come onto him. Which is how it happened in real life as well. [laughs]. I’m kidding.

Taking the lead role in Bridesmaids is John Hamm, who guest-starred on Gilmore Girls in one episode! The rest of the cast includes Rose Byrne, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Ellie Kemper.
