The Good Wife Season 1


Matt Czuchry (Logan Huntzberger on Gilmore Girls) stars in the CBS drama, The Good Wife, which premiered on September 22nd, 2009 and was given a full season. This page will outline spoilers & link to recaps on this site.

In The Good Wife, Matt stars as Cary, a new recruit in a Chicago law firm. He’s a recent Harvard grad and the biggest competition to Alicia (Julianna Margulies), who is returning to practice after many years away (and her husband’s very public sex and political corruption scandal). They battle together for the one full-time associate position that is available and Cary will use any means to ensure he gets that spot.

1.01 “Pilot”

After having to return to work following her husband’s corruption scandal and incarceration, Alicia is assigned her first case – a straightforward retrial of a woman accused of murdering her ex-husband. Since her firm successfully deadlocked the first jury, sticking to the same strategy should work again, but Alicia soon discovers that she has a real fight on her hands.

1.02 “Stripped” (aka “Crack”)

After the State’s Attorney refuses to pursue criminal charges, Alicia becomes second chair on a civil suit involving the rape of a prostitute at a bachelor party who may have been hired and abused by her own husband.

1.03 “Home” (aka “You Can’t Go Home Again”)

The son of Alicia’s former friends is charged with felony murder, and Alicia decides to defend him, despite the fact that they ostracized her ever since the scandal. Cary works with Alicia on the case… though they have different strengths.

1.04 “Fixed” (aka “Adverse Reactions”)

Alicia thinks she’s discovered evidence of jury tampering in the firm’s class action law suit against a pharmaceutical company. Alicia is asked to do some prep on her husband’s appeal.

1.05 “Crash”
Air Date: October 20, 2009

Alicia and Will have only 72 hours to prove that a freight train crash was caused by the train company and not the engineers in an attempt to save the widows their husbands’ pensions. Meanwhile, Alicia and Jackie disagree about whether or not to take the children to see their father in prison.

1.06 “Conjugal”

Alicia is working with Will on the appeal of a death row prisoner, she agrees to a conjugal visit to Peter but just to get some information on her client given that Peter convicted him when he was state’s attorney.

1.07 “Unorthodox”

Alicia, representing a daughter of one of the partner in the firm, finds herself very attracted to her co-counsel, mostly because of his unorthodox approach of defending their client.

1.08 “Appearances”
Air Date: November 17, 2009

While Alicia is preparing in a case defending a scientist accused of arson, she is suddenly asked to testify on Peter’s behalf. Damages Peter Riegert guest stars as the judge in Peter’s case and CBS’ The Early Show star Russ Mitchell guests as himself and interviews Peter.

1.09 “Threesome”
Air Date: November 24, 2009

Alicia is stunned when a plea bargain she agreed for DeAndre Ramsey of 13 years old with ASA Mark Richardson is not granted by Judge Henry Baxter. She thinks that he unfairly sent the boy to a detention center. Maybe the judge was racists in his sentence, but she soon discovers that the judge’s problem is very different than what she thought.

1.10 “Lifeguard”
Air Date: December 15, 2009

When Julia believes a judge acted with racial bias in sending a child to a detention facility she looks deeper into the issue discovering a trend dating back to June of 2008. Also, Diane receives an offer to become a judge.

1.11 “Infamy”
Air Date: January 5, 2010

Alicia learns more about Peter’s fall from office when she represents Glenn Child’s wife, Marie Browning, in her divorce appeal. Meanwhile, Will and his opposing counsel named Emily, get cozy during a death suit against Duke Rosco, a caustic TV commentator.

1.12 “Painkiller”
Air Date: January 12, 2010

Alicia and the kids have to deal with some really bad news and then she has to give Peter some information that will make him furious. Meanwhile, Alicia has to represent the doctor who prescribed the medication to a high school quarterback that appear to die from the painkiller overdose.

1.13 “Bad”
Air Date: February 2, 2010

Tensions are high as Peter’s appeal begins while Alicia has to defend a wealthy client who doesn’t seem that innocent, even after he’s found not guilty of murdering his wife. Meanwhile, Diane takes precautions when a prisoner she put in jail is to be released from prison.

1.14 “Hi”
Air Date: February 9, 2010

Alicia defends a man accused of killing his child’s babysitter. Meanwhile, Peter’s appeal seems to be going well, and Alicia prepares for the idea of him returning to her life.

1.15 “Bang”
Air Date: March 2, 2010

While Peter gets settle at home and continue working in his comeback strategy, Alicia and Diane fight with the spousal privilege laws in a murder case, in order to get a wife to testify against her husband.

1.16 “Fleas”

Alicia and Will defend an attorney arrested for murder, while Peter strategizes with his team on how to handle his retrial and his public rehabilitation.

An emergency courtroom was set up in the middle of a hospital, and Alicia and Will have to battle Patti Nyholm and an insurance company, who refuses to pay the client for a life-saving in-utero surgery. Meanwhile, Alicia gives Peter a proper welcome home.

Alicia and Will try to defend a college student who was accussed of killing her sorority sister while on sleeping aid. At the same time, they must deal with their growing sexual tension and Diane and Kurt McVeigh continue flirting with each other.

Alicia must face her former boss, Jonas Stern, in court, and debates incorporating personal information into her case. Meanwhile, Peter continues to use religion in his attempt at a comeback.

Alicia must decide whether to stand by her husband or pursue a relationship with Will.
