Vanessa Marano at Emmy Awards

Vanessa Marano (April Nardini on Gilmore Girls), now 18, attended the Emmy awards on Sunday night, where past Gilmore Girls co-star Melissa McCarthy won her first Emmy.

Aside from all her television and movie work, Vanessa Marano will also be making a guest spot in Cookin’ With Gas at The Groundlings, an all-improv theatre in LA, on September 29th.

Todd Lowe in “Day Drinkers”

Todd Lowe (Zack Van Gerbig on Gilmore Girls), who just completed a fantastic character arc on True Blood for its fourth season, currently stars in the Odyssey Theatre production of Day Drinkers, a play written by Justin Tanner. Backstage.com gives Todd an “excellent” for his role in the play.

Summary: “Nine a.m. is happy hour at the dive bar that Daniel (Todd Lowe) has inherited from his father. As the family of bleary-eyed regulars arrive and morning slouches into day — and cocktail after cocktail is served — secrets are spilled, fights erupt, and hearts are broken and repaired. Love is in the air.”

As a fan of Todd, use the code “TRUEBLOOD” when calling the box office for a reservation and you can get a $15 discount ticket rate.

Kelly Bishop Talks “Anything Goes”

Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) is returned to the stage in the production of Anything Goes as Evangeline Harcourt until January. The story concerns madcap antics aboard an ocean liner and how many people seek the hand and heart of Hope Harcourt. Kelly’s character is Hope’s “haughty and overbearing mother.” Sounds like perfect casting to me!

Kelly recently spoke with Broadway.com about the show and what its like to return to the stage.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play some funny, nasty ladies in my day, and if you can make them foolish, they’re even funnier. Evangeline Harcourt is one of the sillier roles I’ve ever played because she takes herself so seriously. Other characters keep tricking her and she keeps falling for it; she falls for every disguise and every tall tale. But she’s not a stupid woman. She’s a silly, funny woman who has absolute belief in herself, which I just love.”

Kelly does realize she’s taken on another role as an “overbearing mother,” but she’s ok with that.

Sally Struthers to Reprise “Annie” Role

Sally Struthers (Babette on Gilmore Girls) is undertaking one of my favorite roles of all time! Miss Hannigan in Annie!

Sally as Miss Hannigan in 2008

Sally will be heading to Thousand Oaks for the production of Annie running from October 14 – October 23rd at the Fred Kavli Theatre (tickets here).

This is not Sally’s first time taking this role – she played Miss Hannigan on Broadway for the 20th Anniversary Production in 1998 and again took the role in 2008.

Sally Struthers in “Legally Blonde: The Musical”

Sally Struthers (Babette on Gilmore Girls) is currently starring in the Ogunquit Playhouse production of Legally Blonde: the Musical. Sally has the role of Paulette, the hilarious over-the-top hairdresser. She’s getting great reviews for her role.

Krysten Ritter in “All New People”

Krysten Ritter (Lucy on Gilmore Girls) recently took to the stage for the 2nd Stage Theatre production of All New People, a new play by Zach Braff.

The show ran from July 1st to August 14th with Krysten in the role of a New York party girl. In an interview with ThreaterMania, Krysten talks about her role and how she’d love to someday land on Broadway.

Summary: It’s the dead of winter and the summer vacation getaway of Long Beach Island, New Jersey is desolate and blanketed in snow. Charlie is 35, heartbroken and just wants some time away from the rest of the world. The island ghost town seems to be the perfect escape until his solitude is interrupted by a motley parade of misfits who show up and change his plans. A hired beauty, the townie fireman, and an eccentric British real estate agent desperately trying to stay in the country suddenly find themselves tangled together in a beach house where the mood is anything but sunny.

Kelly Bishop in “Anything Goes”

Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) is returning to the stage as part of Anything Goes. Kelly, herself a Tony Award-winner for Sheila in A Chorus Line, joints the Tony Award-winning production of Anything Goes as Evangeline Harcourt, taking over the role from Jessica Walter.

Summary of the show: The story concerns madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy #13 Moonface Martin aid Billy in his quest to win Hope.

Kelly will begin performances in Anything Goes on August 9th. The production of this revival is set to run until January 8th, 2012, so Kelly will likely be on board for the duration of the show.
