Milo Ventimiglia Supports Comics

Milo Ventimiglia (Jess Mariano on Gilmore Girls) has put together a video to support Free Comic Book Day, which will happen on May 1st. On that day, comic shops around the world will give away comics for free. Milo is supporting this effort and how comics help with literacy.

As many of you know, Milo is involved with a comic series, Berserker, which he discussed recently with USA Today.

Ventimiglia has a guiding principle for his creative involvement in Berserker. “We’re trying to give the fans what they want. I’ve been a comic book reader since I was 8 years old, so I get it. When I look at the work that Rick and Jeremy are producing, I think to myself ‘would I want to read something like that?’ ” He adds, “We’re just aiming to create something that real comic fans love.”

Issue #5 of Berserker just came out at the end of March.

Keiko Agena at Comic-Con

Keiko Agena (Lane Kim on Gilmore Girls) was at Comic Con in San Diego on July 24th to promote the graphic novel anthology she contributed to, Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology. For two hours, Keiko was on hand to sign copies of the anthology at the event, with a healthy line-up the whole time!

"Post Grad" The Novel

Alexis Bledel‘s (Rory Gilmore) upcoming movie, Post Grad, has released a novel! Post Grad, the film, will be out in August, but you can read up on the story now in the Post Grad Novel or Audiobook.

The story, and film, tell the story of Ryden Malby (Alexis Bledel), a recent college grad whose aspirations include landing her dream job at a publishing house and living in a posh apartment. Sadly, things don’t work out that way. Ryden’s college nemesis grabs her perfect job and Ryden is left with no choice but to move back home.

Stuck with her eccentric family and no job prospects, Ryden feels like her life is going nowhere. The only things keeping her together are her best friend Adam (Zach Gilford) and her next-door neighbor, David (Rodrigo Santoro).

If you want to check out the books before you buy them, you can read the first two chapters here! It also looks like the film will be adding some blog posts and webisodes as the movie comes closer to release! You can also enter a contest to win a trip to the LA screening of Post Grad.

Keiko Agena & Ming Doyle Interview

Last month I mentioned that Keiko Agena (Lane Kim on Gilmore Girls) wrote a comic for an upcoming graphic novel anthology, Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology. I have had a chance to interview Keiko about her story, Learn to Share, as well as interview the graphic artist, Ming Doyle, who helped bring her story to life.

Learn to Share is just one of the comic book stories in the Secret Identities anthology, each story telling the tale of Asian American superheroes. Check out the SI site for more about the editors, artists and writers behind these great stories.

Keiko Agena was paired up with Ming Doyle for their story, ‘Learn to Share’. This was their first time working together, which Ming calls an “honor” and Keiko saying Ming was “amazing throughout this experience.”

GilmoreGirlsNews.com – How did you get involved with the ‘Secret Identities’ anthology?

Keiko Agena: I’m good friends with Parry Shen who is one of the editors of the book. He approached me a few months ago and asked me if I was interested in submitting anything.

GilmoreGirlsNews.com – What was your inspiration behind writing Learn to Share?

Keiko Agena: When I first heard about the project this image of a young girl isolated from the rest of the world came to mind. I was attracted to this sense of her lonliness and separation.

GilmoreGirlsNews.com – What is your story about?

Keiko Agena: Sera is a young Thai girl who, due to her traumatic childhood, loses her sight. She discovers she can momentarily regain her sense of sight by “stealing” someone else’s. In those moments she can see both from her point of view and theirs. She becomes aware of a young girl who has gone missing and uses this “power” to see through the eyes of everyone in the city to find the girl. By the end, she’s happy and can see, but only by permanently borrowing it from someone else… [Read more...]

Milo Ventimiglia's Berserker Comic

Milo Ventimiglia (Jess Mariano on Gilmore Girls) may play a superhero on television, but he’s also changing things up a bit with his new comic book, Berserker, created with Top Cow Productions and Milo’s Divide Pictures partner Russ Cundiff.

The series has been drawn by Jeremy Haun, cover artist Dale Keown, and written by Rick Loverd. The new comic follows the lives of 2 lead characters who realize they have incredible strength when they get angry. These people are descended from Norse berserkers, fierce warriors, but have little control over their abilities. It’s just blind rage. The story was originally conceived as a screenplay, for television or film, but Russ & Milo saw its strength lies in the comic world. You can already buy the preview, edition #0, with #1 coming soon! The Gilmore Girls Companion

A former editor for USA Today, A.S. Berman, has put together a new book about Gilmore Girls. Berman, who has written other insider books about television and film, is releasing ‘The Gilmore Girls Companion‘ in July, 2009. The book gives an unauthorized behind-the-scenes look at the series; it will include interviews as well as insights into each episode of Gilmore Girls.

According to the author, he chose to write about Gilmore Girls because it was a “groundbreaking show that remains an important cultural experience for many fans around the world.” Berman was driven to know what went on behind the scenes of Gilmore Girls and what the actors thought of their experiences. Hopefully the final result gives us all some of that insight!

You can pre-order ‘The Gilmore Girls Companion’ here for $19.95.
