Gilmore Girls Movie: Could Kickstarter Make it Happen?

Lauren Graham Paleyfest 2013

When I heard the news that the Veronica Mars movie may be happening, thanks to the show runner Rob Thomas and main star Kristen Bell backing it on Kickstarter, I immediately tweeted that we may have renewed hope for a Gilmore Girls Movie… if only Amy Sherman-Palladino could spearhead the same thing. Many of you also voiced the same hope.

Well, apparently many of you also asked Lauren Graham about it on Twitter! Lauren responded to the world that she has heard all the requests (which I’m sure have been many), saying:

She didn’t downright shoot down the idea… so, hopefully Amy gets wind of the idea and is inspired by the success that Veronica Mars has had in raising MORE than they needed! I would back the Gilmore Girls movie, wouldn’t you?!

Lauren Graham even later joked in reference to the movie again…

Amy Sherman-Palladino and Sutton Foster talk Gilmore Girls and Bunheads!

With Bunheads’ imminent return on Monday, DisneyInfoNet bagged a fabulous interview with Amy Sherman-Palladino and Sutton Foster. Fabulous why? Because they both talk at length about Gilmore Girls, the comparisons with Bunheads, the Gilmore Girls’ alumni showing up as cameos, casting Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore) and overflowing with as much love for GG as they clearly have for each other. Seriously, get a room guys.

Sutton and Amy Sherman Hat Palladino Welles

Sutton Foster: …one of my favorite shows was Gilmore, I mean of all time, and Amy’s one of my favorite writers, and we took a meeting and I basically fan-girled all over her, and then a couple of weeks later they called and were talking to me about this pilot.

Amy Palladino: …when I find a particular person who can knock it out of the ballpark, it’s like Orson Welles and his group of mad actors that he would use in everything – not that I’m Orson Welles, although I wouldn’t mind being Orson Welles someday – but the idea that you’re lucky enough in your career to collect people who are particularly good at the stuff that you like to write, and when you find them you want to write for them.  I find myself longing to write for Liza Weil, or longing to write for Sean Gunn, or longing to write for Todd Lowe, or Rose Abdoo … because there’s not billions of people out there who are special. And if you find a merry band of madmen who will come and make things wonderful, I will write for those people forever.

For EVER, guys.

DisneyNetInfo guy: … where do you get your inspiration to make shows with such great plots and interesting characters?
Amy: Well, I don’t know, just a lack of therapy, perhaps, no time to work it out on a couch with a man and an iPad. I love family interaction, and in a weird way Gilmore, obviously was family, but this show is a new kind of family, I’ll keep saying that, because it’s my favorite tagline ever, but it is about people who, you know, somebody once told me, “You just created your own family.” I don’t care what, if your family isn’t exactly what you need it to be, then go out and create it, find it. And that’s what this show is about. It’s about creating your own family, finding your own support system.

Listen to DisneyInfoNet‘s youtube recording or indulge in the full interview transcript at WeLoveSoaps.net, it’s good stuff.

From next week, I’ll be recapping Bunhead episodes as they air, with high hopes for some Gilmore-style nuttiness from the only woman who can bring it, Mrs Sherman Palladino Welles. If you haven’t crossed paths with Bunheads yet, it plays like a Gilmore Girls’ relation (happily, more akin to Jackson’s brother Beau than Jackson’s cousin Rune). Wacky adorable townsfolk – check. Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore) – check.  Attractive, likeable brunette with severe case of verbal diarrhoea – check.  Plus dancing interludes, teen angst and girl power. We’ve got a full set of first series’ Bunheads episode recaps (which if I may say, are just delightful) right here.

I’m particularly looking forward to Liza Weil’s (Paris Geller) cameo as dotty Truly’s sister and seeing what becomes of the girls’ relationships.  I’m hoping that Michelle actually comes back to Paradise after macing the Christmas performers, because otherwise it’ll be a really short series and how about more possums?

Bunheads airs this coming Monday, January 7 at 9 pm Eastern.

Gilmore Girls Returns to ABC Family

This summer, it appeared that ABC Family was pulling the plug on re-runs of Gilmore Girls, replacing the 5pm timeslot with The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Although not returning to the 5pm slot, ABC Family will be playing Gilmore Girls re-runs at 11am starting on October 3rd. The show picks up in Season 3.

It’s not clear if fan incentive brought the show back or not, at least in re-runs, but we like to think it did!

Lauren Graham Talks “Gilmore Girls” and “Parenthood”

Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) sat down with Buddy TV to talk about what’s up for Parenthood and her character Sarah in the upcoming third season,

So, I’m a big fan of all your work! I love Gilmore Girls. What would you say to fans who really miss the show?

Lauren Graham: I miss it too, I mean you know I miss that kind of precision of language and those kind of crazy, quirky stories. I don’t think a week goes by where I don’t reference that time, those stories, those people.

Are you still in touch with anyone from the show?

Lauren Graham: Yeah, I’m in touch with a lot of people. Kelly Bishop is joining the cast of Anything Goes on Broadway in a couple weeks, so I’m definitely going to see her. Alexis I talk to, and Amy. You know, it was a significant part of my life.

So glad to hear that Lauren keeps in touch with her fellow Gilmore girls!

ABC Family Replaces Gilmore Girls Re-Runs

ABC Family, which has long been the destination for Gilmore Girls re-runs at 5pm, is taking the show off of its prime spot. Instead, the 5pm timeslot will be filled with The Secret Life of the American Teenager. The change will reportedly take place after July 18th. Fans learned of the change by new ads for the timeslot.

Fans have been flocking to the ABC Family boards to protest the change in timing.

There has been no official announcement of what this means for Gilmore Girls. Will it still be shown, but at a different time? Do you know?

Jared Padalecki Would Make a Gilmore Girls Movie

Jared Padalecki (Dean Forester on Gilmore Girls) was recently interviewed by Zap2it about the current state of Supernatural and his thoughts on a potential Gilmore Girls movie.

As Jared shares in the interview, he considers himself to be a very loyal person. For that reason, we won’t see him vacating his fans on Supernatural, just like he would support Gilmore Girls fans again, if it came to it. Would Jared Padalecki make a Gilmore Girls movie?

“One hundred percent!” he says. “I would love to. I really would truly love to. It was so fun. I have nothing but fond memories of that show. I came to it straight out of high school, I grew up on the show, and I’d love to go revisit that character.”

We love you Jared, thanks for all the continued support to your fans! :)

Gilmore Girls Emmy Snub Still Mentioned

As Zap2it notes, Gilmore Girls never got the Emmy love it deserved. We’ve hashed this out before. But still, I’m always really happy to see that the show is remembered in every Emmy season:

gilmore-girls-season-3-06.jpg

“Gilmore Girls”: There weren’t many other shows like it on TV: a hip mom, her teenage daughter/buddy, and a Connecticut town full of characters, all shooting off Amy Sherman-Palladino’s rapid-fire, pop reference-laden dialogue. At some point, you would have thought that Sherman-Palladino, star Lauren Graham, who handled the dialogue and emotions like a pro, or supporting star Kelly Bishop would have at least gotten a nomination. But the show got nominated for only one Emmy in its seven-year run, for makeup. The show did at least get a win for its one and only nod; let’s hope the makeup department lets Graham and Sherman-Palladino come and visit the Emmy every so often.

Let’s hope that Melissa McCarthy and Lauren Graham get some nods for their current work this year!!
