Did Sookie Try to Interfere?

In ‘Always a Godmother, Never a God‘, Sookie asks Lorelai & Rory to be godmothers to Davie & Martha. She tells Lorelai that she simply doesn’t have anyone else, other than them, that she’s close to. Do you think this is true, or was it really a ruse to get Lorelai & Rory back together?

Birth Moments on Gilmore Girls

EWs Ken Tucker has put together a list of “Favorite Sitcom Births” including on that list a special Gilmore Girls moment. Now, there were many births featured on Gilmore Girls – Lorelai, Sookie, Lane, Liz, Sherry – but only one listed here as a favorite… Sookie!!

Here’s why this birth was picked:

“One of my favorite TV pregnancies occurred on Gilmore Girls: Lorelai’s pal Sookie, impatient for her wee one to arrive. Here’s Sookie panicking that the baby “won’t come out,” moaning that she feels like “the fat guy in Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life — I’m going to explode,” and complaining that what she really wants is “a Manhattan and a Scotch and a beer and a sidecar.” In short, classic Gilmore:”

Was this your favorite birth moment on Gilmore Girls too? If not, which was, and why?

Thanks Sylvia!

Should Lunch Have Been Cut?

In ‘Norman Mailer, I’m Pregnant!‘, Sookie finds out she’s pregnant with her second child. However, I’m not going to talk about that. I’m going to talk about the lunch at the Inn. They decided that lunch would be cancelled, for budgetary reasons. Sookie was no happy, of course. But do you think perhaps there could have been other options?

When Sookie feigns knowledge of the cancelled lunch, she’s shown in a kitchen with 7 assistants. What about them instead just cutting to 1 person? Or promoting (like the flyers, but sans Kirk)? Do you think there could have been other options?

What Makes Sookie & Jackson a Perfect Match?

In ‘I Can’t Get Started‘, Sookie & Jackson get married! Yay! One of my favorite Gilmore Girls couples, by far! As Lorelai said, it’s like “a real live love story.”

So, what is it that makes Jackson & Sookie perfect for each other? Here are some of my ideas, but please add some of your own!!

  • They both love food
  • They are both obsessed with perfection
  • They are both eccentric – Sookie’s clumsiness, Jackson sleeping with his veggies
  • They respect each other completely
  • They both are kind of oddball
  • Their fights keep them passionate
  • Jackson knows how to deal with Sookie when she goes overboard
  • They are both independent – both entrepreneurs
  • They’re both shy

Here’s a tribute video to Sookie & Jackson:

When Did Lorelai Become Rude?

This series of events between Lorelai and Rory continues to irk me. The whole thing always rubbed me as very out-of-character. Though both Lorelai and Rory were very capable and in-character to act immature in the situation where Rory dropped out of Yale, I find it really difficult to believe they would interrupt the baptism to have a fight. They love Sookie too much for that.

In, ‘Always a Godmother, Never a God,’ Lorelai tried to call Rory only to find her number disconnected (which we later learn is because Rory lost her phone). Kind of like how when Rory tried to apologize and instead found out Lorelai was engaged, it just made her more mad. So, when Sookie asks both Rory and Lorelai to be godmothers to her children, they can’t back out because of their fight - they love Sookie too much for that.

Rory seems to do better through the baptism than Lorelai does. Lorelai is distracted, wondering if she’s the only one without Rory’s new phone number. So distracted, Lorelai asks the Reverend for a moment and drags Rory, with the babies, outside to ask why she doesn’t have her phone number. Rory seems embarrassed about interrupting the service, but Lorelai isn’t.

Sookie later says she’s not mad at Lorelai for disrupting the service. She feels guilty for setting up Rory and Lorelai the way she did, which is way beyond what Lorelai deserves for her breakdown I think. But Sookie’s a great friend. Anyway, when Rory tries to apologize to Lorelai and to give her her number, Lorelai turns her away. Again, immature. Where’s all this coming from? Lorelai had to learn very quickly to grow up when she left home with baby Rory, so all this seems over-the-top, don’t you think?
