Does Richard Like Logan?

In ‘Twenty-One Is the Loneliest Number‘, Richard begins to get worried that Rory is turning into Emily – that she’s all about social functions and her man… Logan. He thinks it’s a bad “direction” for Rory to be headed… that she needs to be “working toward something.” I’m surprised that he threw Logan into the “bad direction” part of this conversation, since I’d always thought Richard liked Logan for Rory.

I can completely understand Richard’s fears and frustrations for his very bright daughter… she’s stuck. But does Richard see Logan as part of the problem? Would he rather Rory not be dating anyone, or just that Rory return to something more focused, Logan or no Logan?

Why Does Logan Give Rory a Birkin?

In ‘Welcome to the Dollhouse‘, Logan gives Rory a Birkin Bag – a bag that has a wait list of up to a year and is ridiculously expensive. Rory has no idea that it’s such an expensive and sought-after purse, but Logan knows his sister, Honor, will fill her in.

Why did Logan get this purse for Rory? What does it mean? Do you think Honor suggested it to him?

Is a Kropog Real?

In ‘How Many Kropogs to Cape Cod?‘, we learn about Kropogs, so I thought I’d tell you more! A Kropog was a unit of distance specifically made up for Gilmore Girls. You might think, like with many other things, that it was a pop culture reference to something real. This time, however, it is not! The writers of Gilmore Girls made up a 1944 Yale alumni, Maxwell Kropog, who was said to be the originator of this unit of distance – it was based on his short height.

Trivia question: how many Kropogs is it from Rory’s dorm to Logan’s dorm?

Is Logan Smarter than Rory?

In ‘So… Good Talk‘, Rory tells Lorelai that she and Logan have “definitely started something.” To me, it sounds like she’s definitely thinking ‘relationship’ here (does Rory ever think any other way??), but she wants Lorelai to be ok with it. She says Logan is beautiful and ‘smarter than her’. Do you think Logan is smarter than Rory? If so, why? Or why not? Why would Rory say this?

What Does Logan Hint At?

In ‘You Jump, I Jump, Jack‘, one of my favorite episodes, after Rory follows Logan to jump off the scaffolding, Logan tells her that she did good. When Rory replies, “it’s a once in a lifetime experience!”, he says “Only if you want it to be…” An open ended question!

Is this Logan inviting Rory to be a member of the Life and Death Brigade (is she a member after this??) or is he hinting at dating?

Logan's "Master and Commander" Reference

In ‘Written in the Stars‘, Logan tells Rory to call him “Master and Commander.” He says it in a very arrogant way as he walks off. Rory sees the movie reference, and gives him an “Ugh”, but many of you may not know about the movie or what perhaps Logan means by this. So let’s check it out!

Master and Commander is both a book book series and a movie based on those books. The film takes place during the Napoleonic Wars on a British man-of-war ship that is ordered to pursue a French ship. There is a fairly lengthy plot description on Wikipedia. Have a read there then come back and discuss… why does Logan make this reference? What does he mean when he wants Rory to call him “Master and Commander”?

Why Does Logan Propose in Public?

In ‘Unto the Breach‘, so much happens that it’s hard to decide what to talk about in this discussion post! But, among all the things that we could discuss, I’ve decided to ask just this: Why does Logan propose at Rory’s graduation party?

Logan proposing – obviously a HUGE deal. Though Logan had told Rory to not factor him into her decision about what to do with her future, he’s evidently changed his mind (ok, that’s a whole other discussion, I know). Perhaps he’s scared of losing Rory, I don’t know. After asking for Lorelai’s permission in the previous episode, we’ve been waiting for him to pop the question to Rory ever since.

Where Logan chooses to propose to Rory…. at the graduation party that Emily & Richard throw for Rory! Of all places! The proposal (written out here) is truly very sweet. But should Logan have done it in front of so many people, some of whom Rory barely knows?

Why did Logan propose at this exact time? Was it just about the ‘grand gesture’? Did he perhaps feel he was losing time? Do you think maybe that social pressure was involved? That Logan perhaps thought Rory would be more likely to say ‘yes’ if her family were there to witness it? I’d love to know what you think motivated Logan to choose this place and this time for his “grand gesture.”

Here’s the scene where Logan proposes to Rory:
