Gilmore Guys in Best Looking Fathers & Sons

Because “sometimes good looks are genetic,” BuddyTV has put together a list of their 25 hottest father-son combos on TV… including the hot combo of Jess & Jimmy Mariano.

Yeah, sure, Jess got his looks from his dad… but seriously, as far as show combos go, that’s not much of one… we barely saw Jimmy!

Oh well, any Gilmore Girls mention is a good thing, right?! Also included on the list was our very own Scott Patterson (Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls) from his guest stint on 90201 as Finn Court, Chad Michael Murray (Tristan Dugray on Gilmore Girls) from his stint as Lucas Scott on One Tree Hill, and our hottie Jared Padalecki (Dean Forester on Gilmore Girls) along with his ‘Dad’ and ‘brother’ on Supernatural:

Gilmore Girls’ Memorable Love Triangles

Beliefnet recently put together a list of the “Top 10 Movie/TV Love Triangles” in honor of the Eclipse release. The list includes, however, an homage to Gilmore Girls… to the TWO major love triangles of the series.

Rory, Dean, and Jess from ‘Gilmore Girls.’

Watching Rory fall for beautiful boy Dean, her first love, was so sweet, but when the brilliant, bad-boy Jess came to Stars Hollow, he took romance to a whole other level, and turned out to be a better, if not more tumultuous match for Rory.

Lorelai, Max, and Luke from ‘Gilmore Girls.

Luke might be perpetually rough around the edges, but his gruff yet utterly vulnerable charm was leagues above clean cut, English teacher Max. It just took Lorelai forever to realize it.

I’m surprised the latter was Max and not Christopher!!

Who Did Rory Blow It With?

In ‘Raincoats and Recipes‘, Rory is once again conflicted about Jess and Dean. She talks about how perfect Jess was, though he has already ditched her twice. At the same time, she talks about how she always knew Dean would be there. You put those two together, and you see Rory’s dilemma – the guys are both perfect in opposite ways. What Rory is really looking for is a combination of Jess and Dean, don’t you think?

Anyway, in this episode, Rory says to Lane, “I blew it.” Who do you think Rory meant she blew it with? With Dean or with Jess? Or is she referring to them both?

Why Does Rory Say 'No' to Jess?

In ‘Last Week Fights, This Week Tights‘, Jess is trying to be covert while reading the ‘You Deserve Love’ manual. After reading the manual, we see him confront Rory and try to convince her to move to New York with him, to “live together and be together,” saying that she can count on him now (not realizing she’d have to drop everything). Rory, of course, says no (it was a little out of the question).

This, if you look forward, is pretty much the same thing that Logan does with Rory. Both guys assume that Rory will drop everything in order to go to pursue his dream. Each time, they assume Rory will be ok with this. Perhaps we should have guessed Rory’s answer to Logan when her answer to Jess was also no.

Was Rory right, in this particular case, to say ‘No’ to Jess? Could she have picked up her own dream in New York? Was she saying ‘No’ because she had no feelings for him or because he was asking too much? Or asking too quickly?

Why Does Jess Confess Then Leave?

In ‘Nag Hammadi is Where They Found the Gnostic Gospels‘, we are faced with the fact that Jess has some MAJOR commitment issues!! When he starts seeing Rory around town, it’s clear he has something to say, but is afraid to say it. He keeps running off on Rory, which of course pisses her off (because she’s the one with the right to talk out in a huff!)

However, after being in town only 24 hours, and Lorelai confronting him saying Rory is “over” Jess, on his way out of town he happens to spot Rory. At this point, we can already see that perhaps Jess has matured – he’s talking to his mom and won’t accept Luke’s money. So there are clues here that stuff is different. But perhaps not enough.

Anyway, Jess runs after Rory and begs her to stop. Rory goes on about imagining what Jess would say at that moment and what he says… “I love you.” And with that, he leaves.

Why does he do this? Why leave? Why say this, potentially hurting Rory?? What is it all about?

Why Does Jess Run to Jimmy?

In ‘Here Comes the Son‘, Jess runs from Stars Hollow… straight to his dad, Jimmy. This obviously confuses Jimmy, who wants to know if Jess is in trouble and why he’s there. I wonder this too. After all, Jess has only met his father for a few brief moments, since Jimmy ran out of the diner and was too scared to come back. In this episode, Jimmy admits to being anything but a father, but Jess insists “I don’t need a daddy, I just need a place to crash.”

gilmore-girls-3-season-02.jpg

If you were Jess, would your first instinct have been to go to Jimmy, a father you don’t know, or to return to your home city and crash with old friends? Maybe Jess had no old friends? Or maybe he expected that perhaps Jimmy was the one person who couldn’t turn him away?

What do you think? What led Jess to go to Jimmy?

Here’s a great scene between Jess & Jimmy from this episode:

What Triggered Jess to Leave?

In ‘Say Goodnight, Gracie‘, Jess’ father, Jimmy, stops by Luke’s Diner. Of course, Jess doesn’t know who he is. But Luke does. Luke calls Jimmy a loser and says Jess doesn’t miss him. He recounts that Jimmy had left Liz when he was supposed to be out buying diapers. So why is Jimmy there, why then, what good can come of it, when Jess has so many issues already?

gilmore-girls-gracie.jpg

Now, I realize that Luke has Jess’ best interests at heart. He’s only worried that Jimmy could make things worse. But was it his decision to make? Should Luke instead be supportive, in the hopes that seeing Jimmy will actually help Jess get over some issues in his past?

Jess thought so, of course. After Jimmy confronted him later, and they shared some awkward silence, Jess confronts Luke saying he had a right to know he was there, to prepare him. Luke says he didn’t have to do that. In the end, this fight erupts into something larger – about Jess and rules in general, particularly around school – and it ends up with Luke asking Jess to leave. Which you would perhaps be surprised to hear, after how concerned Luke has been this whole episode about Jess’ future.

At the very end of the episode, Jess and Rory are on the bus. He’s leaving; she doesn’t know it. In the end, is Jess leaving because Luke kicked him out? Because he failed out of school? Because he’s confused about Jimmy? Why?
