Is Dean Obsessive?

In The Gilmore Girls Companion, the author suggests that Dean stalking Rory on the bus in ‘Cinnamon’s Wake‘ could foreshadow his future inability to let her go. I think this is a very interesting insight.

Dean, on the whole, is an “all in” kind of guy. I mean, building Rory the car? That’s over-the-top, even for a couple much older than they are. The bracelet is much more appropriate. But even then, he is the one who noticed when it was gone.

Can you think of other instances of Dean being an obsessive personality? Does his obsessiveness concern just Rory, or is it a part of his personality?

Dean Has a “Butt Cut”

According to a recent and somewhat silly list on The Stir, Jared Padalecki‘s Gilmore Girls character, Dean Forester, is being dissed for his hairstyle – what is known as a “butt cut” – The hair-do that involves parting the hair down the middle of ones head.

What do you think – was his hair THAT bad?

Gilmore Girls’ Memorable Love Triangles

Beliefnet recently put together a list of the “Top 10 Movie/TV Love Triangles” in honor of the Eclipse release. The list includes, however, an homage to Gilmore Girls… to the TWO major love triangles of the series.

Rory, Dean, and Jess from ‘Gilmore Girls.’

Watching Rory fall for beautiful boy Dean, her first love, was so sweet, but when the brilliant, bad-boy Jess came to Stars Hollow, he took romance to a whole other level, and turned out to be a better, if not more tumultuous match for Rory.

Lorelai, Max, and Luke from ‘Gilmore Girls.

Luke might be perpetually rough around the edges, but his gruff yet utterly vulnerable charm was leagues above clean cut, English teacher Max. It just took Lorelai forever to realize it.

I’m surprised the latter was Max and not Christopher!!

Why Does Rory Continue to See Dean?

In ‘Say Goodbye to Daisy Miller‘, Rory starts off the season in tears after Lorelai confronts her about sleeping with Dean, her married ex-boyfriend. Rory may have felt some shame at the time, or perhaps just didn’t want her moment ruined, but when Dean comes to see her later, things move from talking to kissing very quickly. Rory puts up no fight whatsoever.

Why do you think Rory is so ready to ignore her better judgement when it comes to Dean in this situation? And why would she be willing to be “stupid” for Dean and not for Jess? A curious situation, that one!!

Who Did Rory Blow It With?

In ‘Raincoats and Recipes‘, Rory is once again conflicted about Jess and Dean. She talks about how perfect Jess was, though he has already ditched her twice. At the same time, she talks about how she always knew Dean would be there. You put those two together, and you see Rory’s dilemma – the guys are both perfect in opposite ways. What Rory is really looking for is a combination of Jess and Dean, don’t you think?

Anyway, in this episode, Rory says to Lane, “I blew it.” Who do you think Rory meant she blew it with? With Dean or with Jess? Or is she referring to them both?

Why Doesn't Lindsay Work?

In ‘Luke Can See Her Face‘, we learn that Lindsay and Dean are not having the best marriage so far. Right now, Dean is working a lot and Lindsay is mad because she wants to go out. She calls Dean selfish for never being with her. He, on the other hand, feels pressure to buy her a townhouse and car. In the end, it comes down to Lindsay being bored all day.

So, we need to presume here that Lindsay is being the “housewife” all day. She’s staying at home, not going out to see friends or to work a job, even part time. Why do you think she does this? Is it to give Dean the “ideal” wife he always dreamed of? Or was it perhaps her dream to never have to work? Why doesn’t she figure out a way to alleviate her own boredom?

Were You Surprised About Dean Getting Married?

jared-padalecki-gg-s3.jpgIn ‘Chicken or Beef‘, Rory finds out that Dean and Lindsay are getting married. Nobody had told her. Of course, Dean invites Rory to the wedding when he sees her, and that’s just awkward in itself.

However, what I wanted to ask is this: were you surprised to hear Dean was getting married?

I can argue both sides. On the one side, we know that Dean is definitely a “serious relationship” kind of guy. He’s had 2 relationships before, including Rory, and he goes all-out on them. There’s no “dating” in Dean’s vocabulary. On the other hand, he’s been seeing Lindsay for less than a year and he was “supposed” to be very in love with Rory prior to that. So was he simply trying to forget Rory by marrying Lindsay?
