In honor of Gilmore Girls’ 10 year anniversary, CNN’s Katie decided to dig up some Gilmore Girls trivia and interview some of those associated with the show.
Keiko Agena (Lane Kim on Gilmore Girls) talked about shooting the pilot and how she was “loving the script and just filled with hope that everybody would love it as much as we did.” Which we did, of course! Keiko also talks about shooting Transformers 3 and her puppet classes. Katie also interviewed Aaron Berman, who is soon releasing The Gilmore Girls Companion book, who supplied this great quote:
“In the end, Gilmore Girls remains beloved the world over today because it addresses the absurdities of life, and the imperfections in our relationships with one another, with humor and an understanding of what it is to be human.
There are stereotypes, certainly – Kirk’s cluelessness, Taylor’s scheming, Emily’s disapproving – but every character is also presented as decidedly human. As Lorelai observes of Kirk, ‘it’s all any of us wants – to find a nice person to hang out with ’til we drop dead. Not a lot to ask.”
Some trivia revealed in the interviews:
Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) made her first of a multi-episode arc on NBC’s Mercy on February 6th in the episode “Wake Up, Bill”.
In the episode, Veronica and Sonia are affected when their parents’ issues mirror their own lives. In the episode, a cancer patient undergoes a risky course of treatment. Kelly Bishop guest starred as a patient of Sonia’s named Lauren Kempton.
imdb has Kelly listed as also being in the subsequent and most recent episodes “Can We Talk About the Gigantic Elephant in the Ambulance” and “I Have a Date”, though NBC doesn’t credit her as a guest star in their releases. Here are those episodes to watch as well: [Read more...]
Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) signed on for the 2010 film It’s Not You. From the imdb summary, it doesn’t look like she has the main role, but rather a supporting part:
Budding novelist Nate Shepherd, late 40′s, and the young and beautiful Jenny Sparks, early 30′s, meeting in a fancy New York eatery. Complete strangers who have had a rotten day, waiting for their better halves and the rest of their parties they reveal to one another that they are going to meet new people tonight. They quickly realize they are waiting for each other. Just as they begin to connect, Nate’s girlfriend (Adi), and Jenny’s boyfriend, Buddy, show up. Buddy rubs Nate the wrong way immediately and we see that Adi is impressed with Buddy’s stature and wealth, both of which Nate cannot compare. This dinner looks to be an uncomfortable experience for all. After dinner we go home with both couples. Adi breaks up with a stunned Nate. It is obvious the biggest reason is money. At Jenny and Buddy’s apartment we learn their relationship is healthy on the sexual front, unfortunately, it seems to be hurting everywhere else. Buddy’s good friend is coming to NYC for a visit although Jenny wants him to come with her to her cousin’s wedding in Boston instead. Buddy considers the matter closed and in an old fashion sexist way will not even discuss the matter with her. She rolls over to go to sleep, clearly saddened. Buddy’s LA hipster friend, Sam Steele, comes to town toting a bag of drugs. While Jenny is away, Buddy and his pal play. At Jenny’s cousin’s wedding the phone rings with the news that Buddy did indeed overdose. He is dead. Jenny is blown away with shock. At the memorial Nate and Jenny bond once again and it seems that only Nate understands what she is going through. Neither really know where it’s going to lead, but realizing that might not be such a bad thing
In the film, Kelly has the role of Lily Sparks. The film co-stars Shannon Elizabeth, Steve Guttenberg, Doug E. Dout and Natalya Rudakova.
We reported about this last month but now I’ve come across the plot summary. Too bad it’s still a little thin on details!!
As previously mentioned Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) guest starred onArmy Wives on Lifetime on August 16th (not 9th, like it was previously suggested). The episode, ‘Tango’, had Kelly starring as Mrs. Jean Calhoun, the widow of a senator in town for a building-naming ceremony. Claudia Joy (Kim Delaney) and Denise (Catherine Bell) find themselves as companions to the widow. Turns out, this little widow has a fierce side – she’s a cougar with a taste for adventure (“Perhaps we can blow something up”)!

Kelly makes her first appearances in the episode at 6:30 in the video below – very Emily-like in appearance, don’t you think?!

As previously mentioned, Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) will be guest starring in an upcoming episode of Army Wives on Lifetime. That episode has now been confirmed for Sunday, August 9 at 10pm ET/PT. The episode, the 10th in the season, will be called ‘M.I.A.’.

Kelly Bishop will appear as the widow of a late senator, in town to attend a building-naming ceremony. However, this widow has more to her than what you see on the surface… she’s a cougar (likes younger men)! Since this seems like the kind of role Kelly could really bring to life, I’m really looking forward to seeing the episode!

Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) got her big break in the Broadway production A Chorus Line in the 1970s – she even won the 1976 Tony Award as “Best Supporting or Featured Actress (Musical)” for her role.
A little digging by one of the readers of this site produced a video of Kelly Bishop singing “At the Ballet”, one of her numbers from A Chorus Line. I thought you’d enjoy seeing it!
