Alexis Bledel at A Handmaid’s Tale Premiere

Share

Alexis Bledel will be starring in Hulu’s upcoming 10-episode series, The Handmaid’s Tale, based on the dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood. Alexis has called the role “an absolute dream role,” starring as Ofglen, a handmaid and companion who “seems like a pious rule-follower, loyal to the oppressive Gilead system, but she turns out to be daring and subversive.” Ofglen is partnered with Offred (played by Elisabeth Moss) to do the daily shopping (well, at least in the books!).

Check out the premiere photos in the slideshow below:

Alexis Bledel has been quoted as saying she hopes her new series will help stir up some emotions and positive political action in viewers.

The series is set to premiere on April 26th, 2017, just 3 days from now.

    The early returns on this show are very good, far better than I expected. The reviewer in the Washington Post raved about it. I went ahead and got a Hulu subscription largely because of this show. I’ve also been using Hulu to catch up on The Catch (no pun intended) which I started watching because Peter Krause is awesome but it turns out the show is great too.

    And BTW that dress is amazing.

    Saw AB on Seth Myer’s late night show earlier this week. Thought it was a repeat from several weeks ago but looks like since one of the promoted products of another guest opens this week it might have been current. A few comments. Sounds like THT received multiple Emmy nominations and Alexis might have one of them for guest/supporting category. Is that correct?? Also in spite of the fact that her character does not survive in the source material she was wonderfully surprised to be invited back for the renewed second season. Finally she enjoyed watching all of the episodes after her three episode run was completed to see how they turned out as she did not get to read those later scripts.

      Yes, I believe she’s been nominated. Also Milo has been nominated for This Is Us, so both will be there. I think Alexis is reckoned to have a decent chance in her category, but one of Milo’s cast mates has also been nominated in his and, if either of them get it (not usually good odds when it’s two from the same series), the betting is on the other guy.

    @Lathany-

    Thanks for the confirmation. I can remember when this type of news would have been worth a posting on the site.

    The early returns were right. She won her Emmy!

    There was an interview with the director of I think the first SOTP movie and he said that Alexis would have been a silent film star back in the day. A lot of her work in Handmaid’s Tale was like this – quiet, expressive moments. For the first five episodes of the series, she was the emotional center. By the time her part was complete, I was hooked on the show. I can’t think of anyone who would have been better suited for that role and she nailed it.
