Vote For Amy Sherman-Palladino’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon

A new round of Amazon pilots will go up on March 17th and you (not network executives) can “greenlight” Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino’s latest project, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and put it into production for a full series.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is set in 1958 and centers on a wife and mother named Miriam “Midge” Maisel, played by Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards), living in Manhattan who finds she has a talent for stand-up comedy but faces an almost exclusively male profession; she finds work in the nightclubs of Greenwich Village with her journey eventually leading her to the pinnacle of a stand-up comic’s career — Johnny Carson’s couch.

This appears to be loosely based on the early career of Joan Rivers, a pioneering female comic whose trajectory followed a similarly difficult path.

Marvelous Mrs Maisel Tony Shalhoub

Of note in the cast is Alex Borstein, a Gilmore Girls alum who played dual roles as Drella and Miss Celine.  It also stars Keiko Agena’s favorite actor Tony Shalhoub (Monk) as Midge’s father, Marin Hinkle (Speechless) as Midge’s mother, and Michael Zegen (Boardwalk Empire) as Midge’s husband.

YES…Please continue writing. This looks absolutely wonderful. Gilmore Girls is marvelous, but I’d never want you to limit yourself to one story-line, one train of thought where that would be your boundary.

    All the best, always!!

Just watched the first episode on Amazon Prime – it’s worth your time.

It’s a grown-up dramedy with as much comedy as drama. This being Palladino-land, the comedy is often dramatic and the drama very very funny. There are also boobs, swearing and female empowerment, because it’s a grown-up show in 2017.

The lead Rachel Brosnahan is superbly cast and plays a difficult role. Her delicate looks (think a young Meg-Ryan) conceal a wicked sense of humour and crucially, perfect timing.

Alex Borstein (Drella, Miss Celine) gets a major role, both chunky and funny. I spotted supporting cameos from Brian Tarantina (Bootsy) and Bailey DeYoung (Bunheads’ Ginny).

Overall, I trust the writer(s) enough to avoid turning the first season into an elongated version of the first episode and would love to watch these characters go forwards. Certainly worth a vote : https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Pilot-Season/b?ie=UTF8&node=9940930011
