Danny Strong Loved Returning to Gilmore Girls

Danny Strong is currently uber-hot in Hollywood for his huge success as a screenwriter and for co-creating the hit show Empire.  In promoting his directorial debut, Rebel in the Rye, which just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, Danny took time to speak to A.V. Club about his return to playing Doyle in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life:

I loved it. I love Liza [Weil] so much, who plays Paris. And so to get to work with her again—and I’m a huge fan of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino—it was just wonderful going back to it.

He was surprised by the interest and the success of the Revival:

It was so crazy how huge it was. It was never that big when we were on the air. It’s bigger now than when we were on the air, so it was wild.

He was not unhappy about the downward spiral of Doyle and Paris’s relationship:

It’s fictional.  I thought it was very clever.

We can only hope that if Gilmore Girls continues, we’ll get more time with this unusual and very funny couple.

I wish Paris and Doyle were still together, but it sort of made sense for the story. If there’s ever more episodes, I sure hope they find their way back to each other.
