Chris Pine Auditioned for Gilmore Girls

Share

Chris Pine, known for Star Trek and the current film Hell or High Water, and who showed his singing and dancing chops in Into the Woods, was interviewed by W Magazine and revealed:

My first audition, professionally speaking, was for Gilmore Girls. My father [the actor Robert Pine] had gone in for an audition. I’d just graduated college and he told the casting directors that I was an actor: ‘My son’s coming back into town. Will you have him in for a reading?’ So nepotism at its best.

His father is Robert Pine, best known for playing Sgt. Joe Getraer on CHiPs, while his mother is a former actress whose last role was playing Courtney Cox’s mother in 1987’s Masters of the Universe.

Regarding what Gilmore Girls role he was up for, he said:

I don’t know, maybe a boyfriend.  I got my start playing boyfriends, princes, husbands to be.

Cosmopolitan says that he auditioned to play Rory’s dad Christopher which is doubtful since Chris Pine was born in 1980 and would have only been 19 or 20 at the time.

Which role do you think he was up for?  Maybe Dean, although he would have been better suited as Logan.  Not to take away from Matt Czuchry who was and is excellent as Logan.

So, Chris Pine bombed his audition for Gilmore Girls. Ryan Gosling bombed his audition for Gilmore Girls. I wonder who else didn’t make it on the show?!

    Given that his first credit (on IMDB) aired on 20 February 2003 and this was after his GG interview he must have interviewed earlier (so up to the end of 2002). I think that’s too early to audition for Logan – IMDB puts 2002 as being the end of season 2 and the start of season 3.

    I guess if he was interviewed a lot earlier than that he’s just about in the frame for Jess (and, if it really took ages then Dean!) but I think it’s more likely based on the timeframe that it wasn’t one of Rory’s guys. It’s actually Dave Rygalski (following a quick search!) that seems the most plausible character based on timeframe.

    Let’s see just graduated college implies 22 plus date of birth of 1980 suggests auditioning in 2002 so to late for Dean and too early for Logan leading to Brandon the insane waiter at Duke’s?? Nah, got to be Jess—

    @Lathany-

    Like your logic better than mine but since there sometimes is a time lag between posting receipt and actual appearance on the blog, didn’t see your commentary before I made mine. In retrospect, Chris Pine does seem a bit tall to have been considered for Jess-

    What kind about a young Christopher in the flashback episode?

    Maybe when he says Christopher it was young Christopher in Dear Richard and Emily, that would sort of fit given the time frame

    Maybe he auditioned to play the young Christopher? There was this one episode in season three where we saw Lorelai and Christopher as teenagers (the one where Sherry’s in the hospital having baby Gigi).

    It was for young Christopher in the flashback episode. The casting directors themselves confirmed that on their Gilmore gabs episode with the Gilmore guys on their podcast.
