Matt Czuchry on Crazy Fans, his Final Four Words, Status of Logan and Rory, and Advice He’d Give to Logan

Matt Czuchry did an exhaustive amount of press for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.  Here’s a sampling:

On Harry Connick Jr.’s talkshow, Matt said a buddy’s wife tried to get the final four words out of him.  She’d ambush him at dinner:

She would read the articles in front of my face and pause and stare at me.  I wouldn’t break.  She’d say ‘that was a really interesting reaction’ and I didn’t even do anything.  She was shaking me down the whole dinner.

Similarly, on Live with Kelly, Matt said one fan approached in the men’s locker room, nude.

Kelly Ripa commented on how she was going through her phone’s newscrawl during the Presidential election and it was all election stories plus Gilmore Girls.  She said people forgot how much they needed the show.  Matt added:

It’s comfort food.  Since 2007 when it finished, fans have been wanting more and we never thought it was going to happen.  That’s a credit to the fans. and that’s a credit to the fans that it’s come back.

(Matt’s interview starts at 6:14.)

Asked by Screenertv if he could pick the last four words, he said:

Rory, I love you.

US Weekly asked whether Rory and Logan’s were broken up for good:

It certainly felt that way. I think the way I approached it was they had had their journey together, and from my perspective, Logan, no matter what happens moving forward, will always love Rory and in this particular moment, they know it’s time to move on.

On Facebook Live, Matt answered questions posted by fans.  One person ask what Amy had told him about what Logan’s been doing for the previous eight years; she said he’s been “entrenched in the business”, which Matt for his own purposes expanded upon:

He’s actually grown to love it.  For me that was a more mature way to play the character for these four chapters on Netflix as opposed to the original series where oftentimes we saw Logan fighting against the business.

Finally, Matt was asked what piece of advice he’d give Logan.

Don’t marry Odette, chase down Rory, make that work.  She’s the love of your life.

I think we all know very well that Logan and Rory just meant to be…together.
Logan said “that is true love”,(rocket for Rory). He care about how she feels, also they both said they good together, they never bored. Valentines Rory said ” the ones” meaning Logan is love of her life. She also said to Jess she is in love with Logan, she couldn’t even kiss other person.. They did long distance relationship, Logan also said ones” I’m tired of not being around you “something like that..

If after years they are in each other life no matter what that means something…
You can tell that Odette is not his love of his life but he also doesn’t want to get hurt by Rory if she is not ready for marriage .
Very smart of Amy and Dan P. make story similar but actually to Emily and Richard who also was engaged to other women but Emily was the one.
Rory call him because she trust and see Logan as a friend and he is love of her life.
Logan also want to be around her, comfort her…
I’m so surprised people are like team Jess etc. There been situation between them were he was really not nice to Rory and yes that changed but all guys in Rory life are changed by her in positive way.
Logan the most changed but because he also wanted to be with her , don’t want to stop see her and she was his proper girlfriend, I guess for playboy like him that was huge step.
Yes the were on a break or something but he fight back for her and on the end they worked that problem out. Jess left Rory without saying word, he was just childish.

There was also moment when Rory say thank you to Logan for being there for her,(Richard in hospital), Logan reply ” you don’t need to thank me, there is no other place I rather be…”

Come on, that is so much love of her and his life….
I would love to see happy ending for Rory and Logan and both of them growing in to great people together. .There is so much more to see, the child and how Rory will overcome her feeling sick even about someone’s giving birth etc.
There is amazing opportunity to see Rory showing us that she can be mum and still make her dreams come true with work, being great writer etc.
Rory can have lots of support not only from Logan, mum and Emily( for whom being around Rory’s baby will be great because she missed those years with Rory when she was tiny baby…There is so much to see. How all town, Lane can help with advise and kindness as always. There is that amazing opportunity to show how baby can change even the hard people. Logan family could change in there minds and feeling knowing that Rory will be mother of the baby I’m sure they would love to see etc.
How often we see in people big changes when child arrive to there family….
No matter how things will go with baby father I’m sure there is opportunity for Rory to get help from her dad or even long time ago left maybe some special money for her by Richard’s mother..so she could be safe financially and just focus on baby and writing…
I would love to see how for father of the baby will find out .Would she tell?Would be accidently later on.. hope Logan realise he can’t go into marriage other then Rory and he chase down Rory…and after that find out about baby…I know life is not always easy but happy endings are so uplifting…Really would be lovely to see that child if a girl another “Gilmore girl” but this time from baby … story could go on and on ….it would be lovely and I’m sure fans be so happy to see so much more…
If there is petition to sign for more ” Gilmore Girls”please let me know I put my name on it:))))))))))
I love that way Lorelai and Luke get married.
    Really need more Gilmore Girls
    please
    please
Myself I gave birth to baby girl at age 32. Now mother of girl and a boy and motherhood is such a special matter, rising and choices…so much to see if they could continue……

I totally agree, and if Amy felt that Logan wasn’t the end game with Rory, then she should have kindly let us down with just one friendly lunch with Logan and Rory, not filmed all the lovely rapport and chemistry and affair, and then cruelly pulled the plug. Otherwise i loved the revival. Definitely want more.

    It’s heartbreaking…
“Don’t marry Odette, chase down Rory, make that work. She’s the love of your life.”
I don’t think this is what Amy wants. And almost all moments between Rory and Logan that say “true love” were in season 7 and Amy just doesn’t care about that season.

      Exactly.
Matt is more in love with the idea of Logan/Rory than Amy is… and it’s Amy’s voice that matters.

I don’t see how anyone older than 8th grade can say that Jess is right for Rory. He’s so very wrong. Logan and Rory work in every way. As long as GG is shown there will be new generations of girls who are impressed by little thugs like Jess. I loved how after 10 years Jess was still living out of a duffle bag and crashing with his mother. Yeah, he’d be perfect for Yale educated Rory! Did not like what they did to Logan in the new shows as they erased all of the development from S7 despite promises not to do so. But Logan could steal the Magda Carta and set fire to Parliament and he’d sill be better than Jess. Finally, I could not take Logan’s baby being raised by Jess and his social Neanderthal uncle. Just frightening. Wouldn’t mind more GG as long as they don’t screw up Logan and Rory. Otherwise, no thanks.

I’m a Cambridge educated lawyer… but when my sister got married I ‘crashed with my mother’ and my husband has a duffle bag for weekends away. Jess offers to loan Rory money! He is running a successful business! He is doing fine…

In my view, Logan can have Rory. Jess deserves better than the cheating, selfish woman she has become. Once a cheater, always a cheater.

You do realize Season 7 was a disaster, and the whole point of the revival was for Amy to clean up their mess, right? And did you really just call Luke Danes a Neanderthal? I’m at a los…

And I can’t see how anyone in their right mind would think Logan is a good choice. Maybe he’s a good choice for current Rory because she’s a mess and a cheater and Jess is too good for her. But otherwise? Logan is a *cheater* who cares more about his status and money than about the woman he loves, and who thinks that love is a thing that can be bought. If this is how you see the world than you deserve a Logan in your life.

So agree! Rory is not Lorelai. She’s actually more like Emily. She loved the LDB. I felt like she simetimes had to feel torn because3 her heart felt one way, but she felt like she shouldn’t because of Lorelai. I think it makes a mich better story for Logan and Rory to make it work with the baby than to recycle her Mother’s story. It comes full circle with the pregnancy, but then Rory makes her own story by making her own family.

I just don’t think Logan is the right guy for Rory and I don’t believe he ever will be. He’s very much in his father’s world now and I don’t think he’s actually ready to settle down with anyone (not even Odette).

I would like to add that for example Jess wanted Rory to drop off Yale for him , well I dont think if he love for real ,he wouldn’t even ask her something like that.
I do think that Logan was that person who actually stick around, keep coming back, he was right for her and the only one who propose to her.I do believe it takes courage to ask that question..Knowing that it is against his family wish etc.
I know it wasnt Amy season 7 but i do treat that as one story.
You can tell he feel terable and so she when they saying good bye in revival. I think Rory is really ready to cry for loosing Logan for good with whom she have beautiful memories.
    They worked together well.

Logan brings out the worst in Rory. Every time Rory has been with Logan she has lost her true self. She becomes self-absorbed, immature, disrespectful and makes the worst decisions. It seemed like Rory was always playing games to be with him, too; when they first started dating and when he was engaged. Even Lorelai knew he wasn’t right for Rory! I’m not saying Rory didn’t love him. I think most of us can say we’ve fallen in love with the wrong guy at some point in our lives. In the end Rory knew it would never be him, and she finally let him go. He was the easy choice; the one who would take care of her financially. In the end Rory chose the tougher path; the one that will make her a better person, and it was the best decision she ever made.

I feel as if Logan was what Chris was to Lorelai. A dear friend, a comfort zone and a handsome prince. Logan seemed to be able to bring a different side of Rory, a more adventurous and fun side of her, which we audience might think is bad because we are used to seeing Rory studying or reading a book under a tree. Nonetheless, we have to admit that eventhough Logan was “a fratboy type person” he was educated and wellread. He was a good writer and their jokes were smart and witty. And i actually believe that Logan did everything for Rory. Sometimes even apologized when i thought Rory was pretty spoiled and unsupportive (like that time when Logan lost money in the business deal. Rory couldve been more supportive and have more patience instead she was mad at him because he was acting irresponsible). But you can see, Rory was happiest with him.

And to some point, Lorelai and Chris were perfect for eachother too. I bet i am not the only one rooting for them. But i guess their love was expired. It was not that they dont match, it was that they are just not meant to be.

For Logan and Rory i think is the same. Rory just hasnt found her Luke yet. But Logan will always be the one that couldve been. But i honestly wish they work it out. Just like i wish Chris and Lorelai couldve work it out.
