About Eat Like a Gilmore

Eat Like a Gilmore Coffee CakeEat Like a Gilmore is a fun, unofficial cookbook inspired by Gilmore Girls, honoring some of our favourite food-related moments of the show. And let’s be honest, food is a big part of Gilmore Girls! Author & cook Kristi Carlson was inspired to pull together this cookbook after watching the Donna Reed episode. For years, she waited for someone to put together a cookbook of anything Gilmore Girls so she could eat like a Gilmore; impatient, she undertook the adventure herself. After launching on Kickstarter, recipe testing and narrowing down the list, the final cookbook features one hundred recipes to cook and eat your way through Stars Hollow.

I’ve had a chance to review the cookbook myself and let me tell you, I’m salivating! From Sookie’s “Macaroni & Cheese in a Jalapeño-Chipotle Cream Sauce” (when Sookie & Lorelai tried kids party catering) to the perfect martini (Friday Night Dinners!) or homemade Twinkies, the cookbook has it all! Some recipes will even make you sentimental, like the Coffee Cake that Luke made for Rory’s 16th birthday! You had better believe that at least one recipe will be making its appearance in my own Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life Viewing Party! Rory’s birthday drink sounds like the perfect cocktail to celebrate, don’t you think?!

My favorite food memory is when Lorelai and Rory are fighting at Friday Night Dinner when Emily served spaghetti and meatballs. Emily asks the maid to take the plates away and Richard comes in and says that the girls always fight during spaghetti and meatballs.

My favorite Gilmore Girls food memory is when Rory was invited to Sherry’s baby shower in Boston and Lorelai is pressured into going as well. At the end of the day they come home with a Tupperware full of deviled eggs. Once they drive back into Stars Hollow passing Jess’s car Rory convinces Lorelai that they should egg Jess’s car. “You want to devil egg Jess’s car? And how is that going to make me feel better about Sherry?” “Because it’s active and aggressive. It’s destructive but not too destructive” “Lets do it” “Leave the engine running!” After they have devil egged Jess’s car Lorelai tries to peel out in her Jeep but instead Rory and Lorelai make the sound effects themselves. My mother and I love love this epsiode and all of the others.

My favorite food memory of Gilmore Girls is when they ate about four Thanksgivings xD and then Lorelei was upset that they ended up not needing to skip the rolls

I like the biscotti they get on their backpacking trip through Europe and the fake French jam they get for Luke. Also when Rory eats frozen pizza at Richard and Emily’s house.

Coffee coffee coffee! Ok, that’s not food. :-P The bracebridge (sp?) dinner that Sookie does at the Inn where they are all dressed up.

Skipping the rolls. Realizing they didn’t have to skip the rolls. Asking Luke if he has any rolls.
