Sean Gunn Shares Favourite Moments Playing Kirk

Yesterday at EW’s PopFest, where 7 minutes of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was shown for the first time, the Gilmore Guys also had a panel at the show with Sean Gunn making a surprise visit!

During his interview, Sean shared some of his memories of Kirk and his odd job choices, including the time he dressed up as a hot dog or when he had to walk on stilts. He also shared that Edward Herrmann gave him invaluable advice when he had to sing a part from Fiddler on the Roof.

“One of the things I remember most about that episode was I was really nervous about how to sing the song, because I didn’t know if I should try to sing it as well as I could, or how Kirk would sing it … I was in my head about it,” he recalled.

“I remember pulling Ed aside and asking him, ‘You’re a veteran, how do you think I should play this?’ and him giving me the exactly right advice,” Gunn continued. “I think he literally said, ‘Just get out of your head, man. Just go for it.’”

Here’s the original scene of Sean Gunn doing his Fiddler on the Roof song:

One of my favorite characters on Gilmore girls is Kirk. I was so very happy that he is in the revival, hoping he is still with Lulu and perhaps has a family. Kirk as a daddy – delicious! I hope that he has become wildly successful as a businessman or real estate mogul, investing in Stars Hollow and competing with Taylor Doose for influence and control, in various wacky schemes. Taylor was always promoting wacky ideas, along with the festivals and flings, to drum up tourism traffic and Kirk was the king of wacky in the Hollow. ASP/DP created an initially cartoonish character and developed him into someone we genuinely cared about, and Sean Gunn brought him to rich and hilarious life.
