Lauren Graham Shares Insight On New Gilmore-Inspired Book

Lauren Graham will be releasing a book inspired by her time as Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls. The book, Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls, and Everything in Between, is slated to hit shelves on November 29th, though you can pre-order it already.

Lauren Graham recently spoke with Bustle about what inspired her to write the book and how she struggled initially to reconnect with her memories from the initial run of Gilmore Girls.

“It was actually hard to write about the show the first time, because it was so intense, and so many years ago, and so many episodes. So I actually went back through and had to take a look at it.”

The book breaks each chapter into a mini essay, some covering the original Gilmore Girls and some the experience of the revival, both in the works and in the final filming of the Netflix reboot, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Of course, since the book also covers “everything in between,” it acts as an autobiography of sorts, covering Lauren’s personal life and other life and work experiences.

Lauren shares that Talking As Fast As I Can was in the works before the Gilmore Girls reboot was announced, though the revival definitely made the timing of the book more opportune and offered the potential to expand the book.

“A year and a half ago, when Parenthood ended, I didn’t even know what I wanted to do next, and the conversation about Gilmore Girls had been going on for so long, I had no real reason to believe it was any more real than it had been for the previous eight or nine years. So I actually started thinking about this book before that happened, and when that happened, I thought oh, OK, here’s something.”

Lauren also spoke to the great role she’s always had in Lorelai and the great writing of Amy Sherman-Palladino. In my earlier interview with Sam Pancake, who joins the cast for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and is a best friend to Lauren Graham, Sam mentioned Lauren’s photographic memory, which I think must help Lauren step into her lines and really be.

“I felt from early on in the first Gilmore Girls, it’s such a perfect fit. I loved the language; I came from the theatre, and that’s what really gets me excited. There was just so much to play.”

And we can’t wait to see more!

Don’t forget, you can pre-order Lauren Graham’s new book here. And if you’re near New York, you can meet with Lauren Graham on December 1st to hear her talk all about the new book! Lauren is also signed up to be at Barns & Noble in New York on December 2nd.

    Wonder Y,

I totally agree with you! I like to get the kindle version of the book, then pay like the extra $4 for the audible version. Then I can listen and follow along.
