Amy Sherman-Palladino’s The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel Gets a Pilot

Amazon Studios has picked up 5 new pilots, including one from Gilmore Girls creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino. Amy’s dramedy is called The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, a 1950s period drama about a housewife who decides to be one of the first female standup comics. That can’t be an easy journey!

As a huge huge fan of period drama pieces, in which the most stand-out characters are always those with the quirky sense of humour, I think this is beyond amazing. If anyone can spin this into a successful show, it will be Amy!

We know that Amy is very loyal to those she loves, which is why we saw many Gilmore Girls alumns head to Boneheads and why Bunheads stars will be guest-starring on the 4-part Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

Now, how Amy managed to get all this going while also filming a 4-part return of Gilmore Girls (which is basically 4 movies), we have no idea! According to reports, Amy Sherman-Palladino will move over to filming the pilot of The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel after the post-production on Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is complete.

Seems like a great fit since she worked as a writer for Rosanne [whose own show-biz backstory sounds similar to the character she is develping here] and has probably heard all the stories about women in comedy breaking through the glass ceiling. Just call it Rosanne meets Donna Reed [there actually was a Rosanne episode which projected back in time for her to meet all the show mom’s of the fifties]..
