Mike and Molly Ends with a Bang

After 6 years on air, Melissa McCarthy’s Mike & Molly series came to an end this year, with the finale airing on May 16th, 2016. I have been trying to catch up to the series finale before writing about it, but I never have time to finish it! So, to do justice to what has been an amazing show, I am spoiling it for myself by reading and summarizing the finale here!

Melissa announced the end of Mike & Molly with sadness:

“I was shocked and heartbroken when CBS canceled #MikeAndMolly. I would have shot this show for 50 more years. I’ll miss my 2nd family.”

There was a lot of speculation when the news came out about the difficulty in getting over the 6-year-contract slump, which often sees shows cancelled, despite their successes. With her now very successful movie career, it’s unclear if we’ll see Melissa McCarthy continue with television.

The final season was a solid one, with the characters building out some solid plot lines and closing up loose ends that have left us fans wondering for some time. One of the major areas of focus has been the desire of Mike & Molly to become parents, working through an adoption agency in the final season. While anxiously awaiting a call from the adoption agency, Mike even turns to a psychic, guest star and fellow Gilmore Girls actress Rose Abdoo, whom we know as Gypsy.

Giving us some closure, we (SPOILERS) do hear that Mike & Molly get the call that they are about to become parents! The shift then moves toward waiting for the baby to be born, which eventually does happen! We are introduced to William Michael Biggs! Even more! That Molly, after all their attempts, is also now pregnant, so it looks like they’ll be having another baby soon! And the series ends with Mike & Molly singing the theme song to their new baby. It’s pretty awesome.

A fitting tribute to the end of Mike & Molly!

One of my favorite of a very few network television shows I watch, I will miss Mike and Molly. The entire cast was excellent and it is always a joy to see Melissa McCarthy’s softer acting side and humane and compassionate comedy skills. She is so very talented and I will continue to follow her career with anticipation.

Didn’t this air forever ago? I remember reading about what happened during the finale, on tvline, a couple weeks ago.

Me and my boyfriend watched Mike and Molly a lot. For me, it reminded me a lot of us. It was also nice to see a show about people who weren’t skinny being overweight myself.
