Melissa McCarthy, who is slated to return to Gilmore Girls as Sookie, shared what turned out to be a joyous and emotional return to Stars Hollow. Melissa, who originally was not sure she was able to make it back, always shared what a special place Gilmore Girls had in her heart. Although Melissa has not yet filmed her scenes for Gilmore Girls: Seasons, the Netflix reboot, she stopped by the set for a visit:
“I got so sentimental. I stopped by about two weeks ago, I think, and just saw the sets and saw everybody there. It kind of felt like we didn’t skip a beat.”
Melissa shares with another publication how she had missed Stars Hollow more than she realized:
“I just visited the set and everything about it felt like home. Seeing Stars Hollow, I realized I had missed it way more than I had thought.”
Melissa continued with EW:
“Oh my God, it was so sad. I got so sentimental,” she shared. “And it felt like the greatest idea in the world. It was lovely.”
As Yanic Truesdale pointed out in a recent interview, your first ‘big’ show always has a place in your heart.
“No matter where you’re at in life, your first break has a very special place in your heart. That’s just normal. It’s human nature. And Melissa who has an amazing career and who has this very unique place in Hollywood right now — and she completely deserves everything, she has a very unique talent — but started on Gilmore Girls,” Truesdale said of the revival casting mix-up, “And no matter where she is now, she [I am sure] feels the show is very close to her heart.”
Melissa shares that returning to Gilmore Girls and to her role as Sookie was a little “overwhelming”:
“It was a little overwhelming,” she admitted of returning to the role. “It was really cool. It just felt like the absolute right thing to do.”
Melissa also talked to the “magic” of Gilmore Girls for capturing a whole new generation of fans, which is super rare for a show to do.
Melissa gave these little tidbits last night on the red carpet, on the way into the Time 100 Gala, where she gave a toast to all the honourees, in typical comedic Melissa style:
And while I’m sharing photos, I’m just going to leave this here. Because Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone with Michelle Obama is just awesome.
