Sutton Gushes About “Stars Hollow: The Musical”

It was recently revealed that the Summer episode (Episode 3) of Gilmore Girls: Seasons, the Gilmore Girls revival for Netflix, would include Stars Hollow: The Musical, a musical rendition celebrating the history of Stars Hollow. We saw in a recently-released photo, Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lauren Graham (Lorelai) in costume auditioning for the musical, while seated at the table were Miss Patty (Liz Torres) and Babette (Sally Struthers).

As we outlined in earlier posts, we know that the 3 “stars” of the show are all Broadway stars themselves (though not in the show), with highly-anticipated guest star Sutton Foster as a struggling actress who gets her big break in this, Stars Hollow: The Musical,

“I can tell you that her best gig that she’s gotten so far in life is the lead in the Stars Hollow musical.”

Jeanine Tesori has penned the score with Amy and Dan writing the lyrics, which Sutton gushes about in a new interview:

“I can’t share too many details! But it’s basically the ridiculous story of the town of Stars Hollow told only the way that Amy [Sherman-Palladino] and Dan [Palladino] can.”

Sutton shared that there are 4 original songs by Jeanine Tesori with “ridiculous” lyrics by Amy and Dan, which is a huge chunk of time devoted to this show-within-a-show. It sounds like the show is being “performed” at Miss Patty’s. Amy recently gushed:

“It’s my most exciting thing! We get in these demos and sheet music. The songs are ludicrous and insane. We’re listening and wondering, ‘Is the Tony on the piano while she’s doing this? Is she in a room surrounded by awards?’ She’s mad, mad, mad in the best possible way.”

The other two “stars” in the show are Broadway stars Christian Borle and Kerry Butler. There has been some fan speculation that Sutton may be cast to play Lorelai in the musical, which could be hilarious – so, would Christian be her Luke, do you think?
