Gilmore Girls was given a lengthy feature in this month’s edition of Entertainment Weekly, set to hit newsstands on Friday, though some early editions have been spotted. In the spread, we’re given a look at Rory speaking in front of a classroom of students about Jane Eyre. We all know classic literature is right up Rory’s alley. The question is, where is Rory teaching and why?
Given all we know about the series, and the filming that has taken place at Chilton, it’s likely that Rory is at Chilton. You can even see the Chilton uniforms. I believe Rory is only visiting as a guest lecturer.
Why do I think visiting, and not teaching full-time? Well, at this point it’s only a guess, but I believe Amy Sherman-Palladino is trying to be true to the plot, as we left it 8 years ago. At that point, Rory had a big opportunity that would have opened up her career as a journalist. It would be unlikely that we would see her after she had dropped being a journalist, though there is a possibility that she is struggling with her chosen career and considering a change. Change is a big theme in the Gilmore Girls revival.
Apparently, the article (though I haven’t seen it in full), talks about Rory being dissatisfied with the vagabond lifestyle of a journalist. Could it be – is she ready to settle down? That does lead to our other major theory based on this prop and these clues!!
