Coming Soon: A Double Dose of Lauren Graham!

Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) will be gracing our screens, both big and small, very soon. Well, hopefully.

pffflllll

November 7th sees the theatrical release of Merry Friggin’ Christmas, a tale of an estranged family brought together when someone accidentally leaves their Christmas presents at home. The pre-pre-Christmas release date doesn’t bode well, however the spectacularly comic cast (the late great Robin Williams, Joel McHale, Candice Bergen, Oliver Platt, Clark Duke and our Lauren Graham as McHale’s partner) at least deserves a glance. Tristram Shapeero (Community) directs and here’s the trailer.

Also new in the news this week, Lauren has joined the reboot of CBS’ The Odd Couple. The TV series will be based on Neil Simon’s classic Broadway play, memorably made into a 1968 movie starring Jack Lemmon and Walther Matthau. The movie was so successful it spun off a 1970 TV series that ran for 5 years, with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman – with Lemmon and Matthau reprising their roles for a sequel in 1998/

This time around, Matthew Perry (Friends) and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!) will play the mis-matched flat-mates, Oscar the grouch and Felix the neurotic, respectively. Lauren Graham plays Matthew Perry’s ex-wife, Gaby.  This will mark the third time that Matthew Perry and Lauren Graham – real-life ex-boyfriend and girlfriend – have appeared on-screen together, the first in the underrated Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip and the second in the easy-going Go On. No word yet on whether Lauren is a walk-on cameo or something more permanent but we’ll keep you posted.

Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that The Odd Couple fares better than Alexis Bledel’s ill-fated Us and Them. Well, you keep your fingers crossed, I have to type this stuff and crossed fingers makes ik awfluffy difficlub.

I wish Alexis was on-screen or stage or anything more.  I’m confident there’ll be a Bledel-Renaissance at some point but it’s frustrating when there’s so much dross on at the moment. Hey, in other news, George Clooney just bought a house in England, a few scant miles away from my place.  I’ll let you know if I see him at the pub.  Which Gilmore Girls actor would you most like to meet in real life?  And what would you want to do with them?  Ping-pong with Milo Ventimiglia (Jess)?  Fro-yo with Liza Weil (Paris)?  Pictionary with Kelly Bishop (Emily) and Edward Herrmann (Richard)?

Pic c/o Sycamore Pictures.  EDIT: Thanks to REGIS and mcityrk for the heads up on both these stories!

Rich

Rich originally began contributing to GIlmore News as 'Dairyman' in 2013, a reference to the character Dairyman Dick in Tess of the D'Urbervilles, (call me Rich). Here in the UK we were late to the Gilmore party and I don't remember what made me watch my first episode - the one where Lorelai picks Rory up from the police station after she and Logan steal a yacht - but I remember watching it again immediately. And then again. Thankfully, the next show was on the next day and I watched that one three times too. And then the boat one again. I couldn't believe the dialogue was so quick and so funny and I pretended to myself that I was only watching it so I could figure out who I was more keen on - the mom or the daughter. I swore that Aaron Sorkin must have been involved but I couldn't find his name attached anywhere, even on the internet. So I watched and loved and laughed and cried and the day after the series finale, they ran the entire show from the beginning again and Rory turned into a baby so then I was all about Lorelai. Lauren Graham is astonishing ("Mother: Breathtaking") and the show was - and is - lightning in a bottle. It's a treasure for those who watch and get swept up in it, like I did and like the readers of Gilmore News. It's heartbreak and chicken soup, family dysfunction and blind optimism, lighthearted romanticism and balls-out brilliant. Thanks to Arieanna and gilmorenews.com for letting me squat and allowing my inner Gilmore Geek out for air. I worry how it would otherwise manifest.
