Dean Padalecki Wears Hat At Comic-Con 2014

Share

Comic-Con finished up on Sunday in San Diego and on the Supernatural panel was all 1.94 metres (6ft 4in) of Jared Padalecki.  This smouldering shot is actually from the Season 9 promo since I’ve no idea what we can get away with using from Comic-Con.

*smoulder*

Season 10 of Supernatural is coming and spoilers from the Con are trickling onto the web.  Plenty of images from the Supernatural event at JustJared where you can see how Dean ought to have dealt with his perpetually floppy hair.

Man, if only Gilmore Girls was a teensy bit sci-fi, we’d all have been in San Diego last weekend.  Why is it sci-fi gets their own convention?  We’re geeks too y’know.  Bigger geeks, probably.

Did anyone make it out to Comic-Con to see Dean Jared?

Rich

Rich originally began contributing to GIlmore News as 'Dairyman' in 2013, a reference to the character Dairyman Dick in Tess of the D'Urbervilles, (call me Rich). Here in the UK we were late to the Gilmore party and I don't remember what made me watch my first episode - the one where Lorelai picks Rory up from the police station after she and Logan steal a yacht - but I remember watching it again immediately. And then again. Thankfully, the next show was on the next day and I watched that one three times too. And then the boat one again. I couldn't believe the dialogue was so quick and so funny and I pretended to myself that I was only watching it so I could figure out who I was more keen on - the mom or the daughter. I swore that Aaron Sorkin must have been involved but I couldn't find his name attached anywhere, even on the internet. So I watched and loved and laughed and cried and the day after the series finale, they ran the entire show from the beginning again and Rory turned into a baby so then I was all about Lorelai. Lauren Graham is astonishing ("Mother: Breathtaking") and the show was - and is - lightning in a bottle. It's a treasure for those who watch and get swept up in it, like I did and like the readers of Gilmore News. It's heartbreak and chicken soup, family dysfunction and blind optimism, lighthearted romanticism and balls-out brilliant. Thanks to Arieanna and gilmorenews.com for letting me squat and allowing my inner Gilmore Geek out for air. I worry how it would otherwise manifest.

I’ve never been to Comic-Con (not even the London one), but from what I’ve read about it, it does go a bit further than sci-fi (Bones, Shameless and Castle don’t strike me as sci-fi or comic book staples). I think that any show that has a cult following stands a chance. In practice, I suspect that GG would only make it on if it did do the film (or if ASP wrote the later seasons in comic book form…)

Castle’s a funny one – I wonder if it’s there just because by association because Firefly was so damn fine… also I guess Castle has those Derek Storm comic spin-offs which mess with my head even more than the books. I think I’d prefer an ASP short novel or screenplay to a comic, just because it bothers me when the artwork doesn’t match what’s in my head.

Speaking of crazy gatherings, about 6 weeks ago a phony “Shrekfest” was promoted on Facebook to occur in my city [While I ilked the movies, not exactly my cup of tea.]

Once people came to realize it was intended as a joke, they said to H with it, and decided to meet and run with it anyway. About 50 people showed with less than two weeks organization through social media and apparently it was considered worthy of a return event next year [Mostly through the work of a comedy troop specializing in all parodies Shrek.]. The lesson:

IF YOU HOLD IT THEY WILL COME!!!
