The Thriving Online Gilmore Community

It’s been over seven years now since the final Gilmore Girls episode live-aired, on May 15th 2007. Enough time for the seven seasons to have aired again… that’s like your kid having a kid.  Yet there’s no seven year itch in sight and the fanbase is still evident, both here at GilmoreNews and at various internet fan outlets, who I’d like to take this occasion to gather up and namecheck and give a good ol’ fashioned Stars Hollow holler.  HOLLER!

ain't no holla back girrrl

Anyone who’s ever twat me will know I’m terrible with The Twitter (apologies if I’m garbling the terminology). I think by the time I joined up the cool kids had already moved onto something else. On the bright side, it seems to be working out for Gilmore Tweets, who post a few choice Gilmore lines each week. Each is up-to-140-characters worth of reminiscences, particularly good for those with a short-attention span.

For those who like their words with pictures, GilmoreGirlsWeb tweets a subtitled screengrab or video two or three times a week. On Tumblr we have Oy With the Poodles Already  and FYeahGilmoreGirls, who both post pretty much weekly with screenshots or animated GIFs and subtitles or taglines. I find myself watching a really good GIF over and over as the actors’ tiniest facial expressions can make the whole thing.

On more traditional entertainment news sites, I keep an eye on Vulture and TVLine. Vulture has a current Gilmore or Amy Sherman-Palladino story once a month or so and not only do they have a dedicated Amy Sherman-Palladino tag but last month they boasted an article from Amy Sherman-Palladino herself. She wrote about the impressive dialogue in Sherlock, of which I’m a fan but I didn’t like the wedding episode.

Michael Ausiello at TVLine is also good for anything current – TVLine’s coverage and support of Bunheads was terrific. Plus he interviewed Lauren Graham on the couch last year.

Also a shout out to TV Fanatic, who are on the radar this week as they kick off an episode-by-episode review of Gilmore Girls, starting with series one, episode one! We’ve done it a few times and wish them luck and many many laughs. I think it’s the third or fourth viewing that really separates the wheat from the chaff.

Last up, something a bit different is Stars Hollow Confessions, a Tumblr site that accepted anonymously posted confessions about Gilmore Girls.  They’d turn submissions into a graphic with an appropriate screengrab. The confession box is currently closed but new pics are still being posted from the backlog. Some of the ‘confessions’ are more observations or musings, but the candid ones are my favourite e.g.

“Season 7 isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be.”

Kira and Iscah, I hope you don’t mind me re-posting this gem…

Are there other Gilmore sites you follow?  Do share!  Do you (or did you) have a Gilmore Girls website?

I’d also like to have a confessional session sometime, I think it’d be an eye-opener.  Anyone care to start?

Rich

Rich originally began contributing to GIlmore News as 'Dairyman' in 2013, a reference to the character Dairyman Dick in Tess of the D'Urbervilles, (call me Rich). Here in the UK we were late to the Gilmore party and I don't remember what made me watch my first episode - the one where Lorelai picks Rory up from the police station after she and Logan steal a yacht - but I remember watching it again immediately. And then again. Thankfully, the next show was on the next day and I watched that one three times too. And then the boat one again. I couldn't believe the dialogue was so quick and so funny and I pretended to myself that I was only watching it so I could figure out who I was more keen on - the mom or the daughter. I swore that Aaron Sorkin must have been involved but I couldn't find his name attached anywhere, even on the internet. So I watched and loved and laughed and cried and the day after the series finale, they ran the entire show from the beginning again and Rory turned into a baby so then I was all about Lorelai. Lauren Graham is astonishing ("Mother: Breathtaking") and the show was - and is - lightning in a bottle. It's a treasure for those who watch and get swept up in it, like I did and like the readers of Gilmore News. It's heartbreak and chicken soup, family dysfunction and blind optimism, lighthearted romanticism and balls-out brilliant. Thanks to Arieanna and gilmorenews.com for letting me squat and allowing my inner Gilmore Geek out for air. I worry how it would otherwise manifest.

Nice one Julie, I like the drinking game rules but worry how this would affect my health, since I like to have the show always on in the background :0)

I have checked them all out and believe this one still the most fun to follow. It is just enough to keep my Gilmore on without so many random comments. I think the followers of this site add so much of their own brilliantly insights and Rich always keeps us apprised of anything on the horizon. I can’t believe it has been 7 years.

I’m always surprised people keep coming back here for more. You’re all gluttons for punishment.

i hope they continue gilmore girls. just saw a video of lauren and Jay Leno helping a family and Lauren is babysitting their child. Sooooo funny, she is talking and talking and the baby is sleeping :D Todally remind me of Lorelai Gilmore :D That’s how she would handle parenthood. They took the best part of gilmore girls away by cancelling it. It deserved more seasons, a lot more! I remember Dan Paladino said once, they wanted to break bonanza and gunsmokes record with gilmore girls. 20 seasons like gunsmoke for gilmore girls, would be amazing because that would answer all our questions we have!!!

    20 seasons… I’d be satisfied with 20 more minutes :O)

I’ve found another tumblr site that’s updated regularly with an ongoing episode by episode guide to trivia, explanations of the many, many pop culture references and gifs too. It’s brilliant: http://friday-night-dinner.tumblr.com/ It’s been going for 4 years now and fills a gap in my news feed.

I looooove “Gilmore girls Confessions” (not as much as I love Gilmore News though!) and have laughed *literally* out loud while reading some of them. Especially when they say something that I’ve been thinking in my head all along but never materialized it. But I do get mad when there is someone complaining about an inconsistency or inaccuracy that isn’t there or has some explanation if they were truly a fan they would know.
