Alexis Bledel in Violet & Daisy at US theaters on Friday!
Released in the US on Friday is Violet and Daisy, starring Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore) as Violet. Taking her Sin City role a step further, she and Saoirse Ronan play a pair of teenage assassins taking on New York criminals. They take on a job targeting a mysterious loner (James Gandolfini) who leads them into some twisty-turny plot.
Written and directed by Geoffrey Fletcher (Academy Award winning screenwriter for Precious) comes:
“a mesmerizing hybrid of New York City crime fable and existential coming-of-age drama. In VIOLET & DAISY teenage kicks match wits with adult-world turmoil, placing three wounded souls into a line of fire none expected – themselves.”
Check out the trailer here.
I couldn’t stop wondering how old Alexis is supposed to be (the pat-a-cake scene made me cringe) and her grip on those guns looks a little precarious but the movie looks like fun. Made in 2011, it’s encouraging that it has a theatrical release.
Will you be seeing it? If you’ve already seen it, I’d love to know what you thought.
Our little Rory’s all growed up!
I’m going to try to catch it on Sunday. I’m expecting it to be a bit of a farce, but hopefully it will be better than The Kate Logan Affair.
I CAN’T WAIT! Her voice sounds weird haha I like it. I think she has grown as an actress. The trailer looks pretty dope
@Y-
Seems kind of unusual that this snuck up on us with little or no fanfare or promotion. Hope that doesn’t imply a lack of interest from the group that produced the movie.
As to the Kate Logan Affair, I actually thought AB played a pretty convincing [if somewhat obvious] baddy, but unfortunately was underserved by a telegraphed plot and a rediculous last 20 minutes. And don’t get me started on the insulting way they portrayed law enforcement procedures and how they dealt with due deligence in personnel matters. A big swing and a miss for the writers.
Makes me wonder about the obstacles involved in making a good movie. I imagine you have to start with a solid script. Have you ever seen a bad movie with a good script?
I enjoyed V&D but it is too flawed for me to honestly give it a favorable review. I really liked the acting all around. I liked the cinematography – I am glad I went out of my way to see it on the big screen. I even liked the script for the most part. There were just too many times I said to myself “What the heck is he thinking?” The plot and flow were just bizarre at times, and not in a good way. In this case, the critics are right.
@mc I agree with your review of KLA. Bledel seems to get roles with interesting characters but weak plots. As for the lack of promotion for V&D, it was a very limited release, basically one step above direct-to-video. It was only playing at one theater in the entire Washington DC area.
They keep pushing back the release date and raising the price for the DVD/BR. Argh! $27 or $30 is a lot to pay for a movie that falls short of excellent.
Oh well, can always go to EBAY around the 1st of the year and probably get it for less than $15–
