ABC Family, which has long been the destination for Gilmore Girls re-runs at 5pm, is taking the show off of its prime spot. Instead, the 5pm timeslot will be filled with The Secret Life of the American Teenager. The change will reportedly take place after July 18th. Fans learned of the change by new ads for the timeslot.
Fans have been flocking to the ABC Family boards to protest the change in timing.
There has been no official announcement of what this means for Gilmore Girls. Will it still be shown, but at a different time? Do you know?
I heard about this and feel sorry for those without DVD or other copies.
Thanks to ABCF for maintaining the GG reruns for 4 years after the end of its original run. With the 150 plus episodes it was a great fun for us to view through multiple complete cycles [though I always assumed they would end after a season 7 run] and an anchor time slot around which ABCF could launch its original programming. Since even the longest running of these programs is only 50-60 episodes [and they fade badly the longer they ran or running], it will be interesting to see if there is any staying power once they get through even 1 or 2 cycles. I would not be at all shocked to see GG back sometime in the fall–
Please let Gilmore Girls come back! Who cares if it’s at a different time, I’ll record them! Please!

I am dreadfully disappointed. They replaced Gilmore Girls with another show and Gilmore Girls is the only reason I watch ABC Family. I only watch Gilmore Girls and AFV. Gilmore Girls used to come on at 11:00 A.M. on weekdays and was replaced by Full House. More than 1 hour of That ’70s Show is unnecessary. They should replace the 4:00 P.M. timeslot and put Gilmore Girls there and I mean it. I don’t want my favorite show off the air.

I was used to watching GIlmore GIrls everyday during the weekdays, and now I don’t know where to see it anymore! I’m so sad! This is one of my favorite shows and I love watching it! I really hope I can find it somewhere else because I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! I want to watch it! And Secret Life of the American Teenager is so stupid! I hate they’re replacing such a great show with such a crappy one!

I live out west so Gilmore Girls was on at 3pm for me (although I don’t watch it on ABCF anymore since I have the DVDs). Anyway I’ve always noticed that it’s been on ABCF twice everyday because before I had the DVDs I would always watch it at 3. It was always on at 9am which has now been replaced by Full House and then now the 3 o’clock slot has now been replaced, which is so sad! What is the world coming too? I mean Gilmore Girls on ABCF was always nice especially when I was sick and couldn’t get out of bed, it would come on. I’m really gonna miss it on there ’cause that’s where I first got addicted to it, so it has some sentimental value I guess. I really hope you’re right Mcityrk ’cause I would love to see it back.
Alisha I collected all the seasons seperately, yes it took a while, but it was a nice project and so some of the places I got a good deal on the DVDs was like Wal-Mart, Target and Hastings (I bought them used there and they work perfectly). I would have bought them all together, but the only place I’ve seen that is online for about $150 and I’m not patient enough to wait for them to come in the mail. I really think you’ll like the DVDs a lot better because no commercials and a TON of bonus features. Good luck with your search!

And yes, even if I’m not concern since I’ve the DVD, don’t know why American love so much plunder the very good series. We should have had at least three more season, or a very right ending. But they go on, they say. Go on for what? They do. Yet doing this they keep the possibility to sabordage good series again, and again, since they are used to do it so.
So, I hope that Gilmore Girls watchers will be able to watch the series elsewhere, in DVD, for instance. Yet, DVD are made as long as the show run on TV… If it doesn’t run, the show become less known, and less DVD are on the market.
I hope I save up enough money to buy all the DVD’s soon! I’m saving up all my change… So far I got $40.
Big mistake,taking it off in midstream. what genius mind at fam decided to pull one of the wittiest,most intelligent series for the pap that replaced it. think it over and put it back.
If I were Lorelai, I would tease Rory and make some crazy jokes to amuse her. I think Duina should watch this show.
Gilmore Girls has been a part of my daily routine for about 6 years. It saddens me to not be able to count on that at 5:00 everyday but as I have seen every episode 5+ times I’m sure, I can accept it’s time to part I suppose. I am on board for having it back in the fall though! Named my dog Rory :o)
I am so sad about the Gilmore Girls not being on at 5:00 everyday. That was “my time”. I had dinner ready and I could relax and watch my show. I hope that they will get to come back in the fall even if it is a different time slot.
I still can’t believe Gilmore Girls isn’t being shown every evening; watching it during that time slot has been a part of my routine for as long as I can remember! I really hope they bring it back. How am I supposed to function without a daily dose of Lorelai?

i love my GG!!!!! i looked forward to them everyday even though i have seen each show a few times. It was something i looked forward to just for me… why can’t they put it back on even if it is at another time? FYI to anyone who has TWC the soap channel plays episodes on Saturdays, it is out of order from where we left off on ABC but if you set to record them then at least you will have some. I hope ABC will bring them back, i really miss it!!!!!!
I agree with Mash! Gilmore Girls has been part of my 5pm everyday and i HATE that it was taken off. Secret life of the American Teenager is such a BORING show! I cant believe they replaced gilmore girls with that. I mean ok, i get it. Its time to give someone else a chance but couldnt they at least pick an entertaining show????
In spite of its insane premise, I actually thought the first half season or so of Secret Life came across pretty well with engaging actors playing differentiated chracters. The problem of course is, like all previous ABCF original programming, the plot got thin really quickly and all the characters started to devolve to the least common denominator, i.e. into the same over-the top, selfish, shrill, whiny, dumb as dirt, wouldn’t want to spend 5 seconds with teen-ager. I haven’t watched the show in 2 years, even as background noise, but every now and then I trip across one of the newer episodes, view for a minute or two, and congratulate myself over avoiding this tripe!!
I miss Gilmore Girls bad!!! I always taped it, and looked forward to watching it when I got home from work. It’s the only time I watched that channel. Unless they put it in a new time slot, I won’t be watching it at all.

It’s interesting that ABC Family has not taken the Gilmore Girls website down! You can leave comments. As expected, folks are pretty upset by the cancellation. I love Gilmore Girls because of the great actors, but most of all I love the idea of living in a small town and having such a great mother daughter relationship.

I bought the whole complete 42 disk box set .
I expect it to back on air before I finish season 1

Yes, please put Gilmore Girls back on in the fall. It is missed and the replacements are not worth watching more than once. GG can be watched over and over and enjoyed each time.
please bring back our gilmore girls. is it that important to have on that 70s show for 2 hours in the afternoon. please. to go from twice a day to once a day was hard enough. now nothing. it is not fair to treat loyal abc family viewers this way. what a mistake.
Let’s see, last day of GG on ABCF was 7/15 and the DOW was at 12,479. Three weeks later after reruns of Secret Life began the DOW has swooned to 11445, an 8.3% loss. Guess Jim Cramer and all of the rest of the CNBC talking heads can take a vacation now as the true correlation for the dip has finally been identified. It was not the insane theatrics in DC, the washout in the Eurozone, or a general panic as someone yelled “FIRE’” in the proverbial theater. It was everyone so sad over losing GG that they sold everything. ABCF do the right thing and bring back Gilmore Girls to save the economy!!!

Also noted yesterday that ABCF was running a promo for some new series either this fall or early spring with the tag “from the executive producer of Gilmore Girls” though they did not identify if they meant ASP or GP or someone else who handled the top chair late in the series. Interesting that they are willing to use the GG pedigree to project a aura of excellence for some unknown quantity after they unceremoniously vanished the real deal!!!!!!!!!
ABCF ruined my summer! I looked forward to relaxing at 5 pm and watching GG. I have watched them since it was on prime time and still find there are comments or scenes that I missed. My whole family is hooked on it. Our ages range from 29 to 72. My daughter loved to watch the 11am show before she went to work. This show has more entertainment packed in it in 1 hour than any show in history, and when it’s over you always say–that is such a great show! I watch it sometimes on SoapNet, but I want to watch it during the the week. There has been precious little to watch this summer and I’m sorry you continue to mess up mine and apparently countless others!

ABC family, please bring back the best show in recent history. Just because there is no bloodshed doesn’t mean they should can it! There IS an audience for great writing, acting, wit and social commentary, authenticity and clever dialogue. Please recognize the brilliance of this show and restore it to its 5PM time slot!

I am so upset that they chose to stop running The Gilmore Girls! My most favorite show and characters ever..it was my comfort when my dad got ill and my anchor when he passed. My sister and I live in 2 different states and this helped bind us..my his absent my husband fell in live with it as well! I so hope thatthry will reconsider..such a witty and smart show ..I agree..Secret Teens can’t hold a candle to the Girls! Help!

This was really sad for me! Gilmore girls is my favorite show, and maybe it’s cheesy, but the show changed my life! I watched it everyday at 5… Now I need to consider buying all the seasons because I miss it so much!
& here in Old Blighty = none next week, last of 2011, & still 15 programs to go!
