Melissa McCarthy Sells First Film

Melissa McCarthy (Sookie on Gilmore Girls) has sold her first script to Paramount Pictures.

According to earlier interviews, Melissa has been writing for 10 years on and off. The script she’s sold to Paramount was co-written with Annie Mumolo, who co-wrote Bridesmaids.

The script is said to revolve around a group of Midwestern women who set out to steal the Stanley Cup. The film is written with Melissa McCarthy to take the lead role.

The idea for the film was inspired by Melissa’s husband, Ben Falcone. Melissa says, “It’s really funny and it’s again not what I think what most people would expect from women and I just love it.”

Lorne Michaels and John Goldwyn are set to produce the new film.

  1. Lynn says:

Happy to hear that she’s finally gaining some much deserved recognition! Also seems that she’s suddenly “in” with the SNL crowd, so to speak. Perhaps we will soon see her as an SNL host! Fingers crossed!

  2. Mina says:

Good for her! I hope so too, Lynn.
