Lauren Graham Says She’s Open to “Gilmore Girls” Movie

E! went behind the scenes of Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls)’s Parenthood. Lauren shared how she’d love to guest star on Glee and how she’d love Barack Obama to guest on Parenthood.

Back to our world, though, Lauren Graham shares that she’s always been open to a Gilmore Girls movie possibility. Sadly, Dax Shepard kind of interrupts here thoughts, joking about how much he loves the show.

I love what Dax says at the end there, so true.

  2. Sarah says:

Most of the cast as always said they were open to it but the ONE person we have never heard from is the ONE person that could actually make a movie happen. asp

  3. Denise says:

That would be a dream come true for me and 1000′s of other fans.I’m not sure if the cast realizes how that show just resinated in peoples lives, and hearts. It wasn’t just another TV show it was a classic work of art!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

  4. arieanna says:

Amy doesn’t do interviews often, though I do believe she’s never spoken out against the possibility.

  5. mcityrk says:

Clearly none of the principals will ever speak out against the idea of a GG movie since that automatically makes them the villian in killing the continuing saga of endlessly teasing the fan base. As to ASP and interviews, seems like she only does them when they reaaaalllllyyyy serve her purpose!!!!!!!! The rest of the time she could care less–

  6. Tina says:

There are 2 things that will determine whether a movie will be made or not: time & money. The show has been off the air for 3 and 1/2 years. Even if they were to start production now, the movie won’t come out until at least next spring. But this doesn’t include writing the script and creating the sets, (GG’s old set is currently being used). Spring 2012=5 yrs after the series finally. That’s a long time.
But even if that’s not the issue, money certainly will be. As much as I love the show, it aired on the smallest TV network. The bigger the network, the bigger the show, and the more sponsors and money (and vise-versa) go to it to support it. I don’t know even if ASP and the rest of her gang were to create a script that they would have (enough) money to support it. Plus since LG is currently making $150,000 per episode on PH (way more than she did on GG), her salary demand will be much higher for the movie.
I really wish and hope they make a movie. I like many other fans hated seasons 6-7, especially, April and Chris’ existences in the seasons. I hated that LG become a Producer only to further the disaster of L&L (one of the pillars of the show). If they had not ruined L&L, I won’t be pushing for a movie. But as a TV/Film degree Senior student, I know the long, drawn out process a movie has to go through to get made. I’m just not sure that production companies, sponsors, or writers are willing to go to arm’s length for this show.

  7. Dany says:

As I said on the last topic about a GG movie, I really don’t see it happening : ASP said that if she was to do it, the movie would start at the end of season 6 (personally, I’m really not intrested in another Lorelai-Luke break-up….are you?). A lot of time went by since the series finale and pretty much everybody (in the cast, at least) moved on by now. And the genral mood of the show changed so much during the last two seasons, I’m not sure there’s a way to bring back the magic (or whatever you want to call it) that worked so well during the first five seasons of the show.

And about LG responsability in the disaster of the last season between Lorelai and Luke, I’m not sure it was really her fault. After all, ASP left the couple in a awfull situation at the end of season 6 (once again, one of the many reasons I don’t think a GG movie would work, especially if ASP wants to start the movie like this) and the actor who played Chris (his name escapes me right now) was already casted for most of season 7. That makes me think that if ASP would have been involved in that last season, things wouldn’t necessarily turned out better. And besides, I think that LG was given producer credit only in the five or six last episodes (and by then, the Lorelai-Chris arc was pretty much over). However, I also remember that she always been a very vocal Lorelai-Chris supporter, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she was very glad to give that couple a good chance. And in a sense, I can understand, since I always loved the April characheter and her relationship with Luke (a strongly unpopular opinion, I know). But, as it turned out, very few fans wanted to see Lorelai and Chris together to begin with, and to see them married (not to mention to hear Lorelai telling him how much she loved him over and over again when she barely told that once or twice to Luke) when, just a couple of episodes before, she seemed permanently attached to Luke……I still don’t see how anyone in the writing room tought it would work with fans.

Anyway, the bottom of it, in my opinion, is that even though a large majority of GG fans are still very disapointed in the way the show ended, well, that’s just the way it is and I think that, nearly four years later, it’s safe to assume that’s all we’re going to get. Better deal with it and find another show to follow. As Metallica wrote it : sad but true.

Of course, all of the above is just my opinion. I may be completely wrong.

  8. Caro says:

I LOVE Dax’ list…that could me mine too! :o)

I agree with dany in almost everything..I don’t think it was Lauren’s fault Lorelai ended up with Chris.
I also have to agree with the movie part: I really don’t think there’s gonna be a movie, but I’ll never loose my hopes for it…and even if that doesn’t ahhpen I hope some day we will get a reunion with everyone on GG, Luke, Lorelai, Rory, Sookie…and even Chris or Jess and Dean. BUt I reall really hated April, she ruined everything!

I guess all we can do is hope that a movie or a reunion will happen…I think a reunion would be better ( but I would never say NO to a movie :o) )

I also think if ASP wants a movie she’ll do it, NO MATTER what GG fans think…I think maybe on eday she thinks : “well today I’m in a good mood, why don’t I try to write a GG movie script!?” or she’ll think ” I wonder what everybody’s doing…we could to a reunion” XD well that probably won’t happen but I’m not good being serious…

  9. Rachel says:

Im sick of all this false hope of a movie. They really need to say if they are or not, and stop with the maybes! On another note I hope she does do Glee, I love that show addicted =)

  10. Alexandra says:

rachel i 100% agree! i love gilmore girls so make it happen if not STOP taling about! i hope she does do glee! woooooow

  11. Alexandra says:

Tina ….hope this does not sound ride but who are you beaucse u know alot about the show?

  12. Tina says:

I’m not saying that LG is the sole force or reason behind the Lorelai/Chris storyline, that was ASP and David Rosenthal. But she did state in many interviews she always thought Lorelai and Chris (rather than Luke) belonged together. And there were RUMORS she didn’t get along well with SP on set. She even stated in an interview she was personally closer to David Sutcliffe (Chris). So anyways, she obviously didn’t voice any/enough objections at the script table when DR came up with the elopement. Read/listen to some old interviews from LG, you’ll know/understand where I’m coming from.
As many of you have mentioned, I think there are too many variables and steps that need to be done for the movie. Plus, as Dany mentioned, even if a movie is make with ASP as the writer, some fans might not even like the storyline. I would support and see the movie, but I’m just trying to be realistic. For all we know, LG might be saying this, only to fully know ASP can’t/isn’t creating a script. Who knows.
Alexandra: I’m just an ordinary fan who’s done a lot of research.

  13. Sarah says:

Tina I do not understand where you got that LG and Scott were not close. The sole reason he was cast as a romantic interest was because they had so much chemistry.(he originally was just another townie like Ms. Patty or Taylor) I have seen numerous interviews with the two, and I have always thought the same. Also, she spent WAY more time with Scott than David so how would she have gotten closer to him than Scott? Scott was in nearly every episdoe whereas David was a lot more scattered with his scenes. I am not trying to be rude but I just have never heard your theories before.

  14. Tina says:

Sarah: try google and read this interview. http://www.tvguide.com/news/lauren-grahams-final-8429.aspx. I agree that the actors had chemistry through the characters, but that doesn’t mean the actors always got along in real life. And again, key word: “rumors”. Do some research…

  15. Anna says:

Tina, Lauren has only spoken out about Chris/Lorelai like one time early on in the show and she said something like “it would be nice if Lorelai could be with Chris so they can be a nuclear family”. And I think she stated that she liked Chris in the show because it added interesting drama for Lorelai and Luke. I don’t what you are talking about with “many interviews” or how you got the idea that LG is such a hardcore Chris/Lorelai supporter. I don’t think she really cared.

  16. Dany says:

I guess the point is Lauren Graham was probably glad to explore the Lorelai-Chris relationship during season 7 and it’s not unreasonable to think she didn’t push for working things out between Lorelai and Luke faster. She does say that she did the job of a producer and that she was involved in the creative process of the show, so I think it’s safe to assume she cared at least a little bit about where the story went. That doesn’t mean she’s a “hardcore” Chris/Lorelai supporter or that there was tension between her and Scott Patterson. I always had the impression that these rumors started because some fans couldn’t believe how bad things went between Luke and Lorelai so they started wondering if there was a problem between the actors. But I don’t remember anyone of them making any kind of negative comment about another. And I hope they’re both profesionnals enough to play their part even if they don’t spend their free time together. After all, Lauren Graham is dating the guy who plays her brother in Parenthood. She obviously can separate herself from her characters (either that or she’s a very, very sick woman).

Once again, everyone has his opinion. As I said before, I actually liked April. Caro didn’t and says she ruined everything. I disagree: the way I see it, April didn’t ruin anything, it’s just that when she showed up, Luke and Lorelai started acting like idiots. I don’t think anyone of us is wrong or right, it’s a simple matter of point of view.

That particular interview for tv guide actually says a lot. When they started the last season, they were still trying to add drama and make things complicated. They pushed the love triangle way too far (and way too late), thinking it would make Lorelai’s choices less obvious but I’m not sure they realized just how much their audience was sold on the Lorelai-Luke couple and that the elopement with Chris would feel just awfully wrong to a lot of fans. And season 7 wasn’t planned as an ending, there was still a very real possibilty for the show to continue for another season or at least a few more episodes.

And in many ways, that’s the problem with how the show ended. It feels like watching a movie and missing the last fifteen minutes. As the story of Lorelai and Rory, I found the ending very good. As the story of Lorelai and her parents, I think there was still enough tension to keep it interesting, but the ending was satisfying enough. But the relationship between Lorelai and Luke is left in a very shaky and messy state. It seems that not everyone involved in the making of the show realized just how important that part of the story had become. And that’s one of the main reasons why there are fans still hoping for a GG movie three and a half years after the show ended.

And despite all the reasons why a GG movie probably won’t happen, I still hope it actually will.

  17. Tina says:

People, I’m on your side. I never said she was a hardcore supporter of L/C, I’m just sayin’ she liked the idea of them together and that could have been one of the reason for S7′s elopement. She even stated that in her TV interview. And again, I said 2x that there were rumors that LG & SP didn’t get along. But whether they did or not obviously didn’t affect their chemistry on set and that’s the important part.

Remember, these are just my opinions and the way I interpret LG’s interviews (use google people. You can find all her interviews about the show). I could be wrong. But for all we know, we could all be wrong. We really don’t know what happened off set or what LG thought about the show and her character.

Just to go back to my original points, I believe time and money will be the main factors whether a movie is made. If the writers and actors have neither, then a well-written script or storyline wouldn’t matter. I guess we will have to just wait and see.

  18. Sarah says:

Its funny we all get in such heated debates both online and off. I know my sister and I always argue whether not a movie will actually happen. I get so frustrated with people who just dismiss the idea and blow me off because I want one so bad!! I think it is safe to assume anyone who visits this site has experienced this because three and a half years later, we are still debating about it and want one to happen. And also I think we can assume anyone who comes to this site probably knows what they are talking about in terms of GG. We are all hardcore GG fans. haha

just wanted to throw that out there :]

  19. Lisa says:

Personally, because of ridiculous discussions like this where people want to assign “blame” (when there is no blame to be assigned), I really hope there is never a Gilmore Girls movie. I am extremely happy Rory graduated Yale, Luke and Lorelai found their way back to a friendship and then a romantic relationship, Rory gets to be a journalist like she has always wanted, and the poignant mother/daughter bond is as strong as ever (I don’t think Lauren could have done a better job of portraying this as she watched a sleeping Rory). For me, it left everything in quite a beautiful place. I am well aware not everyone agrees with me, but I’m actually good with that. I look at all the silly negativity surrounding the last two seasons and know for sure that not even a movie is going to truly satisfy Gilmore fans. No matter what, they will not be happy with how things end. As far as Lauren as a producer, from what I can see she only brought positive points that fans should be grateful for – for instance, she asked for “Bon Voyage” to be a little more emotional. And it makes me cry every time. For the present, I am extremely happy to watch Parenthood every week – thank goodness Lauren is back on my tv every week. She’s simply brilliant in it.

  20. Ingrid says:

@lisa Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! I feel exactly the way you do. I couldn’t have said it better myself!

  21. Dany says:

Ridiculous discussions and silly negativity? That was a little rude. While I agree that these discussions are not necessarily always at the level of a Winston Churchill speach, fans can still share their opinions about what they did or didn’t like on the show (wich I thought was the point of allowing comments on this website). Lisa, I’m glad that you really loved the way it ended, but I personally still think that some of the plots weren’t really resolved (at least not as clearly as I hoped they would be). And if you liked the last two seasons, good for you. I certainly won’t talk of “silly positiveness” just because you don’t share my opinion. It’s just that after all the drama between Lorelai and Luke, I didn’t have that feeling that they really found their way back to a friendship and then a romantic relationship, as you said it. To me it seemed more like a “maybe we’re going to be okay now” near the end of a last season that saw the relationship between these two characters at an all time low. Call me a spoiled brat, but I was hoping for a little more and I’m not even talking about a wedding or babies, just to see them really on the same page would have been enough to me (hopefully happily commited to each other, I might be a romantic fool, but I really hoped we’d get to see it). And that’s really all I’m hoping to see if a GG movie happens. I don’t know if that would satisfy all Gilmore Girls fans, but that would be enough to make me happy. Every work of art (book, movie, record or other) is bound to find some negative feedback. Doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done. And I think that if they do the movie (wich I don’t think they will), they probably picked a thing or two about what fans like or don’t like to see by now. After all, there’s years worth of ridiculous discussions about that subject on this website.

  22. IsabelKitty says:

I’d love a movie just to make all right again. Take it from the finally, have Luke & Lorelai plan their wedding, get married & love happily ever after the way it should of ended.

  23. Linda says:

Me toisebel I think they could have a double gilmore wedding perfect way to end the gilmore girls

  24. TOP GILMORE GIRLS FAN!!! says:

There just HAS to be a movie for Gilmore Girls, full stop. all the fans want it and we wanna see how Luke and Lorelai are and it was so sad to see that we didnt see luke and lorelai’s wedding, i was looking forward to that and to Rory’s future. It just needs to happen for 2012 or 2013 I love Gilmore Girls so much and I cried when it ended, I watched it all this week and I regret not watching it earlier but I am a new fan and I am the number one fan and I must see a movie, it would be amazing because it didnt end right, Chris got in the way and I’m so sad =( =( =( I LOVE GILMORE GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Marjorie Pakalani says:

Please please please make a Gi.lmore GIrls Movie. I watch the whole series every christmas.

  26. angela visscher says:

I really do hope there will be a gilmore girls movie. but if not, just bloody tell us… don’t try to make it a mystery so that we’ll keep on watching re-runs and so we won’t lose faith that there might be a slight chance of the possibility. and if the creators of the gilmore girls show are discussing the possibility of a movie, please don’t wait until lauren, alexis and the rest of the staff is rolling around in their wheelchairs with oxygen tanks and what not.

  27. Karen brierley says:
