Beliefnet recently put together a list of the “Top 10 Movie/TV Love Triangles” in honor of the Eclipse release. The list includes, however, an homage to Gilmore Girls… to the TWO major love triangles of the series.

Rory, Dean, and Jess from ‘Gilmore Girls.’
Watching Rory fall for beautiful boy Dean, her first love, was so sweet, but when the brilliant, bad-boy Jess came to Stars Hollow, he took romance to a whole other level, and turned out to be a better, if not more tumultuous match for Rory.
Lorelai, Max, and Luke from ‘Gilmore Girls.‘
Luke might be perpetually rough around the edges, but his gruff yet utterly vulnerable charm was leagues above clean cut, English teacher Max. It just took Lorelai forever to realize it.
I’m surprised the latter was Max and not Christopher!!

The Rory one was more a triangle IMO that anything with Lorelai. Rory was conflicted between Jess or Dean and went strait from one to the other. Lorelai on the other had was (in her mind) not in love with Luke at the same time as Max. And the same could be said about Chris in the last 2 season. Even when she married Chris Lorelai admitted she was not in love with him, at least how a wife should be in love with the man she married. She only ever love Luke and said so more than once.
Triangles don’t have to be immediate “get your fight on” episodes like the many reversals between Jess and Dean in their orbit around Rory. They also can play out over extended times as with Lorelai, Luke, and Chris or even with Rory, Logan and Jess. But of course the authors of this article knew too little about GG to realize this and only care about immediate conflict. And calling Lorelai, Max, and Luke a triangle is laughable since Luke was only acting as a good friend and even better coffee provider to Lorelai at this point in time. The only competition between Max/Luke was mostly imagined and invariably occured at the worst times.
I’m surprised about Lorelai-Max-Luke too; Lorelai-Luke have the odd moment around then, but really nothing more. Whereas the other three were definitely a triangle.
I also agree with (everyone?) that Lorelai-Luke-Chris was a triangle even though it was less of the direct confrontation variety.
Rory-Logan-Jess? Brief, but, yes it did have that feel. I wonder if the writers would ever have made more of it (if the actor had been available). Milo V’s on record somewhere as saying that he saw that as Jess’ ending, but then he said similar things at the end of seasons three and four.
I don’t think Lorelai-Luke-Max can be considered a love triangle. Was Luke jealous beyond belief, yes, but he was not pursuing a relationship with Lorelai at that time. He was simply jealous. The two of them didn’t begin a relationship until several years after Max was out of the picture.
Lorelai-Luke-Christopher was a love triangle! Christopher attempted to win Lorelai back several times while she was still dating Luke. The one time in particular that stands out was at Emily and Richard’s wedding ceremony, but this love triangle lasted well into the final season of the series.
What? Max -Lorelai-Luke was NOT a love triangle! Luke was jealous but he really hadn’t admitted his feelings for her yet. And as a remember, Max is gone by end of season 2 anyways. And where is Chris? This person obviously isn’t a gg fan like all us are. You don’t have to be addicted to the show to know that. A casual watcher could easily say Chris-Lorelai-Luke is the BIGGEST love triangle of the show!
Lorelai-Luke-MAX? Do you think they got confused with Christopher?
