Parenthood 1.11 “Solace”
Air Date: May 11, 2010
Discussion & Full Video [Spoilers, Video Trailer]
In this episode, we open to a scene very like that when Rory & Dean wake up at Miss Patty’s on Gilmore Girls… except with Amber & Steve, there was a “put your clothes on” moment. And a moment where Amber realizes she a) likes Steve and b) oops, he’s Haddie’s boyfriend.
Discussion:
- I love that Sarah can’t cook! The "real done one or not done one" pancakes are at least an attempt at cooking, however!
- Why does Julia think that Zeek & Camille "only" have financial issues in their marriage?
- Why does Sarah betray Camille’s confidence about the affair? And why does she tell Adam? (He does seem to be the ‘rock’ in the family, perhaps!)
- By threatening to torch the attic contents – the "family history" – is Camille trying to put her mistakes behind her? Or move past her husband? or…. ?
- Why isn’t Zeek more understanding about Max?
- Are you surprised that Crosby would be considering such a big "move"? Do you see Crosby as a family man?
- Why didn’t Camille have her own life? Did she forget about herself – is that part of the issue?
- Does Timm make Joel feel inferior? And / or does he want to be the “knight” to rescue the family?
- Zeek really seemed impressed to see Camille dressed up. It’s so sad that they’ve pretty much forgotten each other. :(
- Do you think Camille was flirting before the “split”? Are you surprised she’d do it in front of Sarah?
- Arg, I like Zeek a lot less after this episode. Particularly since he wants to blame Camille for his affair! He seems to have major issues actually opening up about anything to his wife
- Was it the right thing to do, for Amber to tell the truth to Haddie?
- Did Camille forget she was married, in her anger?
- Do you think Haddie wanted to get back together with Steve?
- Do you think seeing Adam parenting Max made Zeek see how he never tried as hard at being a family man?

I feel like the cast hit a definite rhythm in this episode. In the long run, it was better that Amber told Haddie, but that was probably not the right way. Also, I suspect that Camille might have also done more than flirt during their marriage…anyone else get that vibe?
And yes, the pancake scene felt like such a Lorelai throwback, though I suppose Lorelai wouldn’t have tried making the pancakes, she would have gotten ready made ones or pancakes from her favorite diner or best friend =).
PS Is that a typo in the post title? [It says episode 12 but I think it should be episode 11]
Yep, a typo. Thanks!
