Air Date: March 23, 2010
Discussion & Full Video [Spoilers, Video Trailer & Photos]
In this episode of Parenthood, we find out that Haddie is “Facebook official” with a guy – meaning, she’s been secretly dating a guy named Steve for about a month. While Steve’s parents had met Haddie frequently, Adam and Kristina knew nothing about Steve. Well, that had to come to a head. It was a great journey to see Adam struggle with – very true to what many fathers must feel.
The comic elements of the episode had to do with Drew’s… lack of water conservation efforts, so to speak. Adam and Zeek both struggle to talk with him about it.
I was really pleased to see Crosby grow up as a man in his fathering of Jabbar. Hopefully this is one step closer to him admitting to the rest of his family – and his fiancee – that he is a dad. It’s something he should be proud of.
In this episode, Sarah (Lauren Graham) had to deal with her own doubts about Amber – was she responsible enough to babysit for Julia and Joel? She told Julia she was – but did she believe it? Was she using Amber, as she suggested? I loved the scene where she was making faces with Julia – quite a cute look into their own childhood.
What did you think about the episode?

Still undecided about what to think of this show…
Other that that, did anyone else think of Lorelai and Rory at Chilton graduation when Sarah and Julia were doing faces?
Funny faces I meant of course :-)
No Lorelai/Rory never crossed my mind. Lol. I do kinda see the similarity now that you mention it, though, Mac.
I agree with Arieanna’s summary/review of the episode, Adam coming to terms with Haddie starting to date was really touching for me and almost made me cry, I loved the whole episode, Julia’s storyline was more bearable because it wasn’t quite as cliche even though I wish Raquel would never appear again, Crosby saying she is a good mother was cute, and I liked that they got a chance to bond because that hasn’t happened much. I also like the potential for Adam & Drew to have more of a relationship in the future since Drew doesn’t have a father figure, and the Zeke thing was hilarious. I liked the Amber/Sarah bonding moment with the paper turtles a lot. ;) And yes, Crosby admitting to another person in his family that he has a son is great. I do hope he tells the rest of the family soon. Didn’t really love him lying to Jabbar’s mother about his thumb but that’s part of what makes this a Dramedy show so I guess I have to deal.
I really do love every episode and can’t wait for next week’s episode. :D
One thing that I’m still not really grasping is the mini-plot of Zeke and his wife having marriage trouble. I’m sure they are going to touch on it later and it will be very dramatic and all – but the condoms in the workshop? Is that saying he’s been having an affair or thinking about it? Also for such a big deal as your parent telling you he’s having marital problems, I would think there would be more of a reaction than a “Are you sure I can live in your affair shack?… Ok, good.”
We haven’t really seen a lot of the mother in this show either, have we? One indication is that I don’t even remember her name.
Yes, I, too, am annoyed by the parents’ lack of presence, even though they are supposedly the ones holding the clan together. The one thing that I feel needs more explanation is below:
I love the sibling relationship complexities we have seen primarily between Sarah and Adam and Sarah and Julia, but I have to wonder how realistic is this family with 2 (seemingly) majorly successful kids (Adam and Julia) and then Sarah and Crosby, who are still figuring their way out. Yes, I know this happens all the time, and maybe its because the parents are so laid back, but would they really allow Sarah to go off and marry a loser/junkie/musician at the same time they are (we assume) putting Adam and Julia through expensive grad schools? I mean, obviously Zeek and the mother are not control freaks like Richard and Emily were with Lorelai, but they appear well-off and supportive parents. Perhaps its the Berkeley setting, but the contrast between these two extremes appears a bit exaggerated.
In any case, yay for this episode!!! I loved it :)
Amy, I disagree with your comment about how extremes. The parents let their children make their own mistakes while making sure they were always there if their children needed them and their parents never liked Seth as we seen and heard in this episode so they watched their eldest daughter go off and marry a drop kick musician against their wishes but they never let her go like Emily and lorelai’s relationship, they made sure that when Sarah needed them they would be there at the tip of a hat. I understand just how realistic that is by standing back and looking at my family :). This comment is not a stab at you I just felt like I needed to say that because of how close to my heart that episode really was :)
