Parenthood 1.02 “Man vs Possum”
Air Date: March 9, 2010
Discussion & Video [Spoilers & Photos]
Episode Description: Adam and Kristina come to terms with the fact that their son may have Asperger’s Syndrome. Sarah (Lauren Graham) is on the job hunt and Zeek pushes her to dream big. Meanwhile, Crosby bonds with his newly discovered son and Julia deals with a aggravating mom from Sydney’s school.
My thoughts:
- The series continues strong from the Pilot episode, building a complex tapestry for each family member
- Sarah has some ups and downs with both work and family – she’s very easy to connect with. She makes mistakes and also fights for what’s right. That she’s talented as an artist, yet had worked only as a bartender, made me kind of sad
- When Sarah fought for Amber it reminded me of when Lorelai went to Chilton to fight for Rory. Except Sarah kept her cool a little more ;)
- I was so happy to see Adam come to terms with his son’s condition
What did you think? Did the episode move forward enough from the pilot?

Thanks for the summary Arienna. I loved the pilot episode and told myself I’ll follow this series but I was busy dealing with another firing this week that I forgot to tune in :) .
Crosby’s situation reminded me of Luke’s. Things started to fall apart for Luke and Lorelai when Luke did not tell Lorelai about April. Crosby is doing he same thing by not telling his girlfriend about Jabar.
A mostly fun episode all around and an especially sweet ending moment-
Crosby vs Luke, similar yet different. While both shocked by the news, Luke tried to do the right thing [albeit, more discussion with Lorelai could have helped] while Crosby looks like he will need to be dragged kicking and screaming into any level of responsibility and honesty. He seems more like a less mature version of Baze [Life Unexpected] than any possible version of Luke. This seems like the weakest of the familial plot threads that we will get to see, though Crosby’s interactions with his siblings is hilarious at times.
Sara vs Lorelai, fighting for kid at school. A bit familar I suppose but I would compare and contrast the fact that Lorelai always fought for Rory while Sara only steps up once she realizes that Amber was not the source of the pot, despite her arguing is actually trying to blend in, and could use a break to get up to speed with new surroundings. And of course Sara knew she had to go penitent since Amber’s past history would appear sketchy while Lorelai could not possibly conceive that Rory could have been at fault.
