While promoting her film, Post Grad, Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) talked with MTV about the possibility of a Gilmore Girls movie.
[mtvus video=429727]
Like in other interviews, Alexis shares that she hasn’t heard anything about a movie, nor read a script. If a script were to happen, she shares an almost identical answer to that she gave here about liking the end to Rory’s story.
However, when pressed about a script actually coming her way and, assuming she wants to pursue it, how does Alexis see Rory?
“I imagine her working in a newspaper room somewhere just going after a story.”
Precisely how we see her too! Plus, add in some resolution to her romantic life, plus all the other characters from Gilmore Girls… and well, you have a movie!

Resolution to her romantic life? When she’s 25 years old?
Real-life foreign correspondents all over the world after university are going off to Africa, South Asia, and South America to cover stories and freelance. The idea that Rory could be a reporter doing what she supposedly wanted to do for most of the series right out of university is an absurd fantasy and a discredit to everything the show established (in the first three seasons at least) about the importance of working hard — especially for women.
Alexis has always complained that Rory was too perfect and the role was unrealistic — if her life had more struggle like Lorelai’s work life had on the show, we would have had a much richer storyline for Rory in the last three years. I certainly don’t trust the Palladinos to have a grasp on that.
I would love to see a movie if it could be realistic and both lorelai and rory could get with the loves of their life, no more emotional baggage!! please please please make it luke and jess!
At least, we could write a script and send it to them. Among the thousand scripts sent, perhaps they would choose one. So many screenplays we loved very much was written by the guy or the girl next door. The difference in TV is all about the packages!
we’ll never see a movie, let’s just make it clear, never gonna happen, we just use our minds & Fan Fictions about what has happened cause movie will never happen, i’m not holding my breath for a movie, maybe when pigs fly or when the end of the world happens in 2012, but until, i think not
I’m afraid Jeremy is right…
I just think they shouldn’t stop there, so many people love the show its crazy! Lets hope they see sense and carry on (however much you don’t think it will happen)
I really miss it :-(
I agree, I just wanted the Gilmore girls to accompany me until my old age. Or is it, that we all just wanted to be a part of the community ‘stars hollow’? Whatever, I want them to go on and on and on. And it seems I am not alone! So come on producers!!!
Assuming the shows stars would be willing to participate [improbable at best] and that the behind-the-scenes braintrust would find the time to produce a quality screenplay and the time to direct same [next to impossible] why would anyone be willing to risk financing the project since the Gilmore Girls fans have so miserably failed to support either Lauren’s or Alexis’s movies since the close of the show???? [See rant under Travis Smiley}—
Mcityrk, I’m sorry but IMO Gilmore Girls and Lauren or Alexis’ movies (or any other actor from the shows) are two different things.
It’s not because I was a huge fan of Friends (and still am) that I feel obligated to support a movie every time one of the former cast members makes one.
I feel the same about Gilmore Girls. I watched some of them, disliked some, loved others. But I would totally support a TV movie.
I wonder where is Alexis right now huh? Even in Twitter sightings, I don’t feel any slight presence from her. Best possible to think of, is that she’s not in NY but gone off to some place away from HW for the meantime or probably too that she went home to her hometown in Texas doing some more hibernation & discernment. Feel so sorry for her these days – but on a ligther note, everyone do deserves another chance (even in HW) isnt it?
@rk/mac Most people are too busy to watch crapola like Evan Almighty or Post-Grad. IMHO neither Graham nor Bledel have had a halfway decent movie script to work with since Bad Santa and Tuck Everlasting (though I have yet to see Answer Man yet – maybe I’m part of the problem!).
@monreal You can keep a pretty low profile in Brooklyn. I don’t know which neighborhood she’s in, but Brooklyn Heights for example is very quiet. I don’t feel that badly for her. She’s got plenty of money and plenty of time to work through what she really wants to accomplish as an actor. She also has a unique set of talents. I’m sure someone will come along with a good way to put them together, if that’s what she wants.
Hi Y-
Agree with most of what you said [though I thought the first Sisterhood movie was beyond decent, the second just middle-of-the-road] but I wonder if the problem is not just that they only get offered middling movie scripts to work with but if in an effort to stretch their boundaries their radars have failed them with choices that have been sub-par.
I very much miss Gimore Girls. I think Rory ends up with Logan for sure. Logan and Rory were the perfect combo. Logan’s character was smart like Jess and cared for Rory like Dean.
As for Lor… she’s with Luke, of course. And Lor. is pregnant! Fun! Fun! Fun! Oh and Taylor is with Miss Patty! I wish the actors would give us this!
Come on, abuck, Taylor with Miss Patty? He’s way too straight-laced for her – unless she decided to become a fuddy-duddy, and where’s the fun in that? I can’t see Taylor being wild enough for her either, and he would never give her the attention she needs because he is the center of his own universe. And he’d have to share his money with someone. NEVER!!!
I think Rory would work on her career a bit longer before getting into anything long-term, and at that point it would be with a new character, not Jess or Logan.
It would be nice if there were a movie of Gilmore Girls, but there are daily “adventures” on twitter, with RoryGilmore, LorelaiG, ParisGeller (who IS pregnant) LukeDanes (who married Lorelai earlier this summer), and a bunch of others – go to twitter.com/RoryGilmore to see who she’s following and you’ll get an idea of who is currently out there. New characters come on and others leave twitter, but it’s interesting to see their adventures.
Jeremy and Mac you are wrong! All these shows and movies are being made again 90210, sex and the city, the x files etc. why not gg? just a tv movie would be great. there are millions of gg fans hoping for this so why not dont lose hope. everybody thinks the show was never complete.
I think a movie would be great and could show Lorelai and Lukes wedding and Rory engaged with Logan and working in the Stanford Gazette close to Star’s Hollow. It should also show Lorelai and Luke having a child of their very own. This would be a great way to end the show.
PLEASE MAKE A GILMORE GIRLS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need resolution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luke and Lorelai NEED their wedding!
We need the movie!!!!!! Please make it!!!!
@LaneLovesZach and@MrsEmilyGilmore are my personal favorite Gilmore-tweeters. :D
I really want to see a Gilmore Girls movie. Every time I watch the seasons, when I get to seven, I just wish that there was more. I loved this show, it made me so happy. And its so true, if they can make a sex in the city movie, they can make a Gilmore Girls Movie. I think/hope that if enough fans keep showing interest in it, maybe it will happen. I HOPE!
Gilmore Girls is not complete for me until they show Lorelai and Luke finally tying the knot!! They should have never broken them up AGAIN in the last season, anyways. Seeing them reconcile in the last 10 seconds of the series finale and then not knowing what happens next…hyugh, that was just the worst!
I totally agree.
I can’t be over until there’s a wedding. My imagination runs wild…sometimes its a good thing to ‘leave things to the viewers imagination’, but sometimes its nightmare-ish. This is nightmare-ish!
I only got into the show last year, I stumbled across a couple of re-runs on E4 and fell in love with it…I bought the entire series and watched it pretty much back to back during a week off :)
I really miss it, even tho I never actually got the chance to ‘grow up’ with the characters as many people did, I really miss the programme and still enjoy watching the re-runs that are on t.v. at the minute.
I hope they do bring out a film.
I hope it meets our expectations…. I hope Milo is in it :)
OMG!!! i so want a gg movie. i really think that luke and lorelai wil get married and i dunno bout rory but anyone but jess i hated him. i really hope that the movie goes ahead!
Here’s hoping.:)
