Lorelai Gets a Bad Taste in her Mouth

In ‘Emily in Wonderland‘, Rachel asks Lorelai for help with Luke. Rachel tells Lorelai she’s ready to settle down, to “get serious” with Luke. Rachel doesn’t think Luke will believe her, and is ready to take off rather than face his skepticism (ahem, lack of commitment right there). Rachel asks Lorelai for help in talking with Luke, which Lorelai agrees to.

Though Luke seems uncomfortable with Rachel & Lorelai talking, he seems to listen. He was surprised that Lorelai took Rachel’s side, since Rachel has told him this story many times before. Lorelai says she wants Luke to be happy, and with the “torch he’s been carrying” for Rachel, he should take the plunge. Unless there’s another reason he won’t, which of course he won’t admit.

So, Luke listens to Lorelai. And now has a drawer in Luke’s place and a set of keys. And Lorelai realizes her coffee tastes different. Is that a bitter taste in her mouth? Why did she prompt Luke to be with Rachel if she wanted him herself?

  1. Craig says:

Lorelai never knew what she wanted until it was too late, it happened time after time. Even when she thought she had the only man she loved Lorelai managed to screw it up.

Yes the coffee was bitter, because while she may not have wanted Luke at the time (or wanted to admit it) she didn’t want him to be with someone else, just in case she lost him for good.

  2. Mac says:

Lorelai was not ready to admit her feelings for Luke then. She says that Christopher has always been this wonderful opportunity. I think, on the other hand, that for Lorelai Luke has always been this wonderful opportunity and she was sure he’d be waiting for her forever.

In the meantime, she leads him to other girls (she did the same later for Nicole) and then she’s jealous as hell!
