Samantha Who? 2.19 “The Other Woman”
Air Date: July 23, 2009
Recap & Discussion
Sam discovers that billionaire Winston Funk’s ex-wife, Gigi (Angie Harmon), played an important role in her life before the accident. Meanwhile, Chapman attempts to propose to a reluctant Dena, and Regina’s love of the city life may cause a roadblock in the plan to have her meet up with Howard on the road for their RV trip across the country.
Samantha Who? Highlights:
- Todd has been in London for 2 weeks. He and Sam are catching up by video chat. He’s super excited about his new job and about London. Sam seems sad.
- Sam gets jealous that Todd’s roommate, Mickey, is a gorgeous girl
- Feeling like she’s in Todd’s past, Sam decides to go with her mom to a fancy function hosted by Winston Funk in honor of the Foundation that Sam runs for him
- Regina is apparently skipping out on the RV trip with Howard.
- Regina advises Sam to start dating Winston – something he’s more than happy to encourage.
- Winston’s ex arrives at the function – the ex that Winston was cheating on when he first started going out with the pre-amnesia Sam. She’s gorgeous, this Gigi (guest star Angie Harmon), and a $400 million woman, after the divorce ;)
- Turns out Gigi knew about Sam and Winston, calling her a “homewrecking whore.” Sam tries to explain the amnesia and that she isn’t with Funk anymore.
- Gigi actually likes Sam, making her drop her angry vengeance plans.
- Gigi asks Sam for help getting back together with Winston
- Dena is having lunch with Chapman, the two of them having trouble coming up with time to see each other. His one free day is Andrea’s wedding, and he isn’t invited (either on his own or as Dena’s +1). Andrea apparently believes couples shouldn’t both be invited unless they’re married.
- Faced with that, Chapman “proposes” to Dena, saying “why don’t we just get married”

Recap continues below…
- Dena is so hurt by Chapman’s “proposal”, which included things like “how much do you make” in its romantic interludes, that she leaves the cafe
- Andrea is starving herself to be uber-thin at her wedding
- Sam wants to email Winston to arrange a dinner – to get him back together with his ex-wife – but instead searches her inbox for his old emails. They are beyond romantic.
- Sam shows up for her dinner with Winston – it’s very romantic, even including the grilled cheese, their first ever meal together – and Sam has a hard time staying on track to talking about Gigi
- When Winston says “Sam, I don’t want Gigi, I want you”, she melts and grabs him for a kiss.
- Sam comes home to find Regina in her bed – she ‘forgot her address’ when out clubbing. Sam worries something is amiss between her parents.
- Gigi stops by Sam’s place, wondering if Sam made progress getting her back together with Winston.
- Flashback - the person who ran Sam over… was Gigi!!
- Sam’s so afraid of her that she tells Gigi to ‘go get him’. She’s inadvertently become ‘the other woman’ again.
- After discussing the problem with Frank, Sam thinks Gigi could have spent the last year becoming lethal in martial arts. She freaks.
- Gigi is in a panic because Winston won’t call her back – she wonders if he’s seeing someone else (meanwhile, he’s sending Sam lots of flowers!!)
- When flowers arrive from Funk, Sam tries to pretend they’re for Gigi!! The note on the flowers was for Sam to meet Winston – so, of course, Gigi goes to meet him
- Sam rushes to try to warn Winston – however, in her rush, she hits Gigi in the parking lot!
- Sam goes to visit Gigi in the hospital, hoping she had amnesia. No luck. Though Gigi is convinced that Winston is in love with her and Sam is now jealous. Sam tries to get Winston to play along, but it fails.
- The girls start yelling that they each ran each other over. Sam says it makes them even. And, gaining her confidence, tells Gigi she’s not the ‘other woman’ anymore. That Winston wants to be with her.
- Winston tells Gigi to move on and get over him
- Leaving, Gigi warns Sam not to ever turn her back on her (oooh, threats!)
- Chapman decides to propose to Dena more romantically, though he’s still very practical about it
- Dena: “You don’t get it, you’re not proposing wrong, I don’t want to get married!” (wow, didn’t see that coming!) However, she softens that blow. She is just afraid marriage won’t live up to how she’s always pictured it. Sounds like she just needs time… and Chapman is willing to wait.
- Sam wonders if opposites attract – if she should be with Winston or Todd. And how her future will align.
- Regina is out having sushi, apologizing to Howard on the phone for again not meeting up with him for the RV trip. She lies, saying she’s busy with work.
- Winston is at the door, and Sam decides she’s “ready”. In more ways than one. She hears Todd on the video phone in the background, but leaves the apartment… as we hear “am I too late?”
Do you think Sam really wants to be with Winston?? Or is she just flattered by his romance? What about Todd?
