Lauren Graham "The Answer Man" Interviews

Lauren GrahamLauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) has been giving a number of interviews about her movie, The Answer Man, which comes to theaters on July 24th and can be watched now on demand!

Lauren talked with Dark Horizons about loving the script for The Answer Man, calling it “smart and funny” and a “great combination of sincerity and humor” along with some sarcasm. She talks about her character, Elizabeth, and what she does and doesn’t have in common with her. She also talks about whether or not she thinks she’s now a “go-to actress” for playing single mother characters.

“I don’t think any of these roles have that much in common, actually. You know, besides the kind of circumstances of it. And I think that character of Lorelai is pretty unique, you know? I don’t see that very often, that kind of language, you know?”

Lauren also talks about working on Broadway for Guys and Dolls and about the ABC series, Let it Go, that didn’t make it past the pilot stage.

“That didn’t go. And—you know, while I was on Gilmore Girls for seven years, I had a couple years before that of just seeing all the reasons that things do or do not work. And there is no science, obviously, or everyone would have figured it out. It’s a creative, messy process, where you come together with people you don’t know that well, and you try to – you know, especially in a half-hour, tell a story. And I think we did a great job, but I see why they didn’t pick it up, and I think it was probably the right choice and not through any lack, except, like, all the stars didn’t necessarily align… I expect to do that maybe a couple times before I hit the right thing.”

Glad to hear Lauren wants to keep looking for the right fit back on TV!! Keep reading to hear what Lauren has to say about everyone still recognizing her for playing Lorelai on Gilmore Girls… or about the potential for a Gilmore Girls movie!

Lauren talks about how there are always new fans of Gilmore Girls – people just discovering the show on DVD or in re-runs. And, though for her the show is over, it has opened a lot of doors for her. And yes, Lauren talks about THE MOVIE! If Amy Sherman-Palladino came up with a script, would Lauren consider it?

You know, I think the only reason that people ask this question is because of the Sex and the City movie… to me, you know, a series ends because it’s time for it to end. So—you know, I’m not sure what story is left to be told. What’s really funny is, no one actually involved with the production of that show has ever brought it up. It is only an internet rumour, and like, I think, a hope of some of the fans, that that would happen. So it’s so hypothetical that it’s like, an impossible question to answer. I’m sure – there’s nothing I would dismiss out of hand in the world of being an actor, you know? And definitely I feel great love for that show. But – I don’t know. It’s just so impossible to answer, because the only people who have really asked this question made it up on the Internet.

I guess Lauren hasn’t seen our page about all the Gilmore Girls actors and execs who have talked about the movie potential! ;)

i loved gilmore girls, but now I think it’s good that it`s over. When I look back, the show really great from season 1-4. but then when April came along it was just aweful! don’t get me wrong, but i think a movie can’t fix all these things. i know amy had in mind, to archieve more seasons than 7th heaven. she should wait untill she gets that chance. and 7th heaven was also an amazing show, i’d wish it would come back.

I think it’s interesting that Lauren can see that Lorelai was a very unique role and the show was unique, but on the other hand can’t see that the very fact that it was singular would make fans want more. She must have some sort of tunnel vision to not understand that it’s the FANS driving the idea of the wrap-up-the-show movie. Or else she’s so busy doing her thing she doesn’t realize that fans of Gilmore Girls wish it was still on. Ironic, you know?

This is quite a random comment considering the previous posts, however does anyone know when / if “the answer man” is going to be screened in England?
