Samantha Who? 2.18 “The First Date”

Samantha tries to find balance between her new job and Todd. Andrea is shadowed by a camera crew for a new reality show on celebrity weddings. Howard’s retirement causes problem with Regina.

Sadly, the latest news indicates that “Samantha Who?” is not likely to find a home on another tv network!

Samantha Who? Highlights:

• Sam loves her job. Loves having the Senate on her speed dial, even if saying ‘no’ to charities is sad.
• Winston comes by to woo Sam, but when Sam realizes the time, Sam realizes she missed her first date with Todd – and the 14 calls he made to her after.
• Todd went from being mad to being resigned – after 10 calls, he remembered how “awful” it was to be in a relationship with Sam before. He’s glad she reminded him early of why she’s not good for him.
• Sam tries to tell Todd she’s changed and she wants to balance the important things in her life – including him. They try to set a date, but failed… until Sam cancels another work meeting later in the week.
• Sam envisions a full life with Todd, while Andrea tries to get Sam to fall for Funk instead. Because he’s rich.
• And we transition to a new camera… this one, from a reality show taping Andrea for Superstar Weddings, a reality tv series
• Regina shows up at the bar somewhat disheveled. Howard is exhausting her since he retired. All he wants is sex, which seems to be boring her, even though it’s fun. Sam recommends they make lists of their retirement plans, to get back into synch.
• Winston calls and tells Sam about a dinner he had to cancel on with a Senator. He wants Sam to go. She tries to say she can’t, but he reminds her that she wants the Foundation to be taken seriously. Yet she can’t bear to tell Todd. Instead she tries to get him to go to the Harrison club (a stuffy old people place) instead of the trendy new Stingray. He goes along.

Recap continues below…

• Regina & Howard have finished their lists, only to find them quite different. While Regina wants to travel and see the world, Howard just wants to watch DVDs of shows he never watched. Apparently his whole list involves sitting passively in the house.
• Regina tries to remind Howard of their dreams to see and do things… he apologizes for being selfish. Then asks her to take a shower. She walks away.
• Sam’s deceit doesn’t last, so she confessed about meeting the Senator. But she still tries to pass off the meeting as a date. Until it turns out Funk lied to her about being away – he’s there to meet her, drink in hand.
• While Sam lectures Funk, Todd leaves the restaurant. Sam catches up with them and they fight over the fact that Funk wants Sam and whether Sam finds him attractive or not. She’s a little wishy-washy about it.
• Sam and Todd arrive home, each sulking and trying to pretend the other isn’t there. They try to talk as roommates about their dating blunders. It helps them resolve their fight and start making out!!
• Andrea runs into Winston in the elevator, reality tv crew in tow. She’s really over-acting on camera.
• Thinking he’s “off camera”, Winston asks about Sam and Todd. Andrea tries to put down Todd, though Funk is awfully nice about saying perhaps it’s still the best for Sam.
• Howard took Regina’s dream of travel to heart… and bought an RV. You know, so he can have his home comforts (meanwhile, it’s not like she can see Venice in an RV!!). He calls the RV “The Regina.”
• Sam has prepared a romantic dinner for Todd. And she’s made sure there will be no distractions at home.
• Todd got a job offer in London! For a magazine. And they want him to leave the next day. He, however, wants to talk to her about it first. But she can’t ask him to stay, and he can’t ask her to move with him… all after one date. As much as it seems like they both want to!
• Sam tries to pretend she’s happy for Todd, but she’s so sad!! Poor Sam!
• Sam hears the door close the next morning and starts calling for Todd. She finds him gone and sees a photo of them together as a present for her.
• Regina & Howard go to see Sam in the new RV. Seems Regina is pretending she’s happy with the RV.
• Funk comes by Sam’s office, with wine, asking why she’s not with Todd (duh, of course we suspect him of giving Todd that job!). She has wine with him, as if in defeat. Why does she give up on Todd?? And why turn to Funk?
