Samantha Who? 2.15 “Todd’s Job”
Air Date: July 2, 2009
Recap & Discussion
After realizing that “old” Sam may have been responsible for Todd’s not becoming a successful photographer, “new” Sam sets out to sabotage his competition for a job at a local newspaper. Meanwhile Regina, who is desperate for a new listing in order to continue touting her real estate partnership with Sam, puts Dena’s house on the market – unbeknownst to Dena.
Samantha Who? Highlights:
- Sam begins to think herself unlucky that Todd is always in her way at their apartment.
- Feeling crowded in her own place, she heads over to her parents’ house. A brief moment of peace lapses when they come home early!
- Regina shares news that their townhouse listing sold! Except to her, it’s bad news. Because it was their only listing, and she thinks you need a listing to get more listings.
- Regina thinks it’d be a good idea to list their house (not to sell, but just list). Howard doesn’t want strangers in the house.
- Learning that Todd will be at the movies, Sam returns home… except Todd is still there.
- Sam confesses she never gets to be at home by herself because Todd is always there
- Sam remembers that she was the one who didn’t pass Todd the message about a photo opportunity at a collapsed mine… which got another photographer a Pulitzer prize. Oops!
- Since Todd is now up against that photographer for a full-time job, Sam wants to get this other guy (Wes) out of the picture. To cover her guilt and get him out working.
- Dena gets a call that there’s an open house going on at her place! She returns home to find Regina there!

Recap continues below…
- Dena doesn’t want to sell her house, but Regina is tempted by generous offers!
- Sam tries to convince Wes that he owes her for the Pulitzer prize, and should therefore pass on the job he’s competing for with Todd. Of course, he won’t.
- Sam tries to puncture Wes’ tires instead, but fails. Good thing too, since she’s decided it’s not right to vandalize. Andrea reminds Sam of Todd sitting on her couch – she slashes his tires with Andrea’s knife
- Todd got the job!!
- Wes confronts Sam about slashing his tire. Turns out he, too, needs the job… or he’ll lose custody of his kids. Sam now feels obliged to help Wes, by getting Todd fired.
- Regina tries to convince Dena to sell her house, which was her mom’s house. By saying “Dena, I’m giving you the future,” she manages to convince her!
- Sam tries to tell Todd he can do better than this job, or that he’s not qualified. She tries every tactic, including telling Todd she misses him.
- When Todd leaves, Sam tries to slash his tires too. He catches her, so Sam confesses about Wes. Todd thinks he needs to quit now, that he doesn’t deserve the job. Todd starts to feel fatalistic, that he’ll never have a good career in photography…
- Sam confesses about not passing on the message about the mining
- Packing up her house, Dena realizes that leaving it would mean leaving memories of her childhood and her whole life, really.
- Howard realizes that Dena doesn’t really want to sell. He tries to lie to Regina and say the house has mold. Dena then stands up to Regina, realizing she already has everything she wants in the house.
- After a weird fight about their fake kids, Sam tells Todd how sorry she is for ruining his life. Todd tells her that she isn’t the reason for his failures.
- Quite the opposite, Todd credits Sam with ‘kicking his ass into gear’, saying his career sputtering after may be because they’re not together
- Todd decides to quit the job; Sam nudges him in the right direction by preparing his portfolio for an even better future
