In, ‘That’s What You Get, Folks, For Makin’ Whoopee‘ Lorelai confesses to Sookie that she didn’t want to tell Luke about Christopher, but she thought it was the only way Luke would believe it when she said “no” to his proposal to go elope. Lorelai truly does not believe that Luke wants to marry her. Of course, it doesn’t help that Luke is already calling Christopher Lorelai’s boyfriend and saying he’s “over it.” Put perhaps Luke has doubts too… doubts that Lorelai really wanted to marry him if she was so quick to return to Chris.

Meanwhile, Lane is back from her honeymoon, admitting that it was quite a disaster of a trip. She realizes she married “that man” and is feeling sick and horrible. Well, we know why she’s feeling sick, but it sucks for her that she didn’t at least enjoy the process of getting that way on the honeymoon ;)
So, why does Lorelai have her doubts? Do actions speak louder than words? Or is she doubting herself too? And later, was Luke mean to her as payback for Lorelai’s infidelity during their fight? Or is he just dealing with his own doubts and jealousies again? And is Lane now doubting her marriage too? Or is that purely hormones?

2 points on this one 1) luke and lorelai are both pretty insecure when it comes to relationships. 2) If things went smoothly they wouldnt be able to make the audience play the will they wont they game for all eternity.
What really annoys me in this episode is how Lorelai keeps saying that Luke didn’t want to marry her (and she’ll do it again in “Farewell, My Pet”).
It is not true. Sure he might have gotten cold feet and handled very badly the whole April thing but I do think he wanted to marry her. He always did. He bought the Twikham House for God’s sake and he was all in.
I think she’s trying to convince herself that what she did was not completely wrong. And because, at that moment she’s still hurting and doesn’t want to see him anymore, it kind of gives her a justification.
Their talks, both on the street and at the supermarket, are very painful to watch. Luke is hurting, probably more than Lorelai, but because he’s not good at expressing his feelings he picks anger, nastiness and finally he pretends it’s best to let things go (you belong to someone like Christopher).
Their relationships was so intense, and their breakup too, that they just turn to denial and pretend everyhting is fine. They have always been very good at this. That’s also one of the reasons why their relationship has always been so complicated (as friends and then as lovers).
I love luke to bits but the ‘im in, Im all in’ thing really annoyed me. Thought it was lovely at the time but then after emily and richards encounter he tells lorelai he doesnt know if he can handle being with her then theres the whole april saga – in or out luke pick and stick.
I agree with Suzi.
I believed you Luke when you said “I am all in”. But to let those nit wits,Emily and Richard, affect your life… please!
I hate to say this but I think Lorelai may be a bit of a … well I won’t say it.
I would like to be with Lorelai but i think she would get bored of me too.
She wants to be in love but gets bored too easy.
I hate this episode,no time for Luke want marry Lorelai and he is selfish before she get married Chris in Paris.Lorelai have no patiance for hurry get marry Luke, but he not.Who Lorelai want in love with.
Luke drives me crazy in this episode but I do think he is justified.
Lorelai should never have gone to Chris at that point but I completely understand why she did – in the heat of their fight Luke SHOULD have gone after her – he could have talked her down but he chooses to wimp out … again!
Luke’s nastiness was just a manifestation of his pain but I thought it made him look really weak and made me lose any sympathy I would have had for him.
As for Lorelai – she was torn over whether to tell or not but if she had married Luke without telling him it would have been too wrong to comprehend.
All in, Luke shoud have fought harder – he had wanted her for so long that it was ridiculous he didn’t try to get her back. He needs to keep up!
