Here’s something I don’t get… In ‘I Get A Sidekick Out of You,’ Rory invites Christopher to be Lorelai’s date to Lane’s wedding… and yet, previous to this, Rory had always been really anxious to keep Christopher away from Lorelai and Luke. I don’t understand the shift.

Rory only very recently resumed her relationship with her father, but already seems to completely trust him and be at ease with him. Remember how Rory had freaked at Chris for spending time with Lorelai before? How worried Rory was that Chris would mess it up. Of course, that didn’t last (Lorelai just took care of Gigi), but where did Rory’s concern go?
Now, when Michel bails on Lorelai for Lane’s wedding, Rory has already arranged Christopher to be her date. Weird, or normal? And should Lorelai have accepted, knowing how Luke could react to that?
Does Rory’s renewed trust in Christopher extend to a belief that he wouldn’t hurt Lorelai & Luke’s relationship? Or does Rory see that Luke & Lorelai are in trouble? What does this mean, if anything?

Maybe she has some trust in him for keeping his promise to not get too close to Lorelai, because it was Lorelai who initiated contact by inviting him to lunch at the Dragonfly. That kind of led to a spur of the moment invitation.
Well, that good question.Because Rory dont want Lorelai will be lonely without date at Lane’s house and want Chris date with Lorelai, not get so close or move on with her without Luke know.Like Lorelai invited Chris at lunch at the Dragonfly without Luke know that.
I really don’t think that Rory looks into that deeply – he is simply a solution to a problem! Lorelai can’t go to the wedding without an escort and Chris was already talking to Rory therefore was the obvious candidate.
Their relationship is back on track by this point & maybe she just thought it would be nice to spend this special evening with her parents.
I love Christopher in this episode!
Because Rory was a Itch, It was her Evil Plan, She would rather have Chris & Lorelai Together, All Thanks to April coming into their sad lives, So you can thank April being in the show, So all i can say it’s April Fault, When that little homewrecker came, Everyone should have wrote letter to the people on the Show, To get rid of her & make it into a bad dream, Cause April was the thron that broke the Camel’s back into two bad & Sucky season, So I Blame Rory & April for this
I don’t get it either!
That was such a shift from Rory’s usual fear of her father to hurt her mom – which he always does.
And Lorelai just says yes, knowing that Luke would be upset…Watching this episode is a real pain for me…
That’s also another mistake from the writers who don’t make much sense at this point anymore.
Rory is back on track in season 7 when she comes to her senses and realises that her dad is a jerk by not contacting Lorelai after Richard had a heart attack.
Enough already with the over-analysis. It is a TV show. Stop treating it like Shakespeare. If something doesn’t make sense, it probably isn’t you. It is the demands of reasonably entertaining an audience over a 24 episode season, something Shakespeare never had to deal with.
Wonder Y – talking about the episodes in detail is part of what we enjoy here at GilmoreGirlsNews.com. I have been trying to put together a discussion topic per episode 2-3 times per week. Sometimes my topics are better than others, but it’s one of the ways we choose to keep Gilmore Girls alive.
:)
OK, I know I was the first one to post here. But I’m getting the feeling myself that you should burry the show and focus more on the casts current careers. It’s gone for two years, yes it’s nice to talk about certain aspects, but you can talk about the same stuff only so many times. The show isn’t going to change because you constantly talk about it. I realised that GG is just a tv show ,it’s superficial, it’s comedy, stuff like on the show doesn’t happen in real life and trying to understand it from a real life point of view doesn’t work. Sometimes it’s fun to see what people get out of this scene or that dialouge, but at one point analysing every aspect brings you to no goal. You hold on to this like a tradition, I say tradition to be able to say, you should apply the Luke Danes way on looking on tradition like he did in Love and War and Snow. Sorry for bashing out like that, but I have to agree with Wonder Y on the analysis part. I enjoy it sometimes, you just don’t need to get into every small detail especially in season 6 & 7.
I agree with martin and Wonder Y, after six seasons they just needed to mix things up a bit, to keeps things lively. It must have been hard to ASP try to constantly come up with something new and believable for six years.
But there’s something I don’t get, and it’s all the anger some people have for April’s character. She was just a kid, for God’s sake. A fictitious one, by the way. How can a 12 year old child possibly be a “homewrecker”, like jeremy said?
And Rory, she was just confident in the fact that Lorelai loved Luke. Remember that when she got upset at Cristopher it was because she thought that he was still her mother’s weakness. But now, she realized that he was no longer in Lorelai’s mind, Luke was.
I like thinking about the episodes and having the opportunity to discuss them. It is a good show with meaningful messages and in-depth characters, it provides opportunity that few other shows can provide to really think about what the writers/producers/directors were trying to do.
As for this episode, I wonder why Lorelai is so intent on following Mrs. Kim’s directions in the first place. She’s engaged, she tried her best to get a date, and its not like she has always been a person to follow directions. Plus, Mrs. Kim is obviously distracted to bother to check to see if Lor came with a date.
It seems like when there is news on new projects for the various GG principals that this info is highlighted and well discussed on the site. Meanwhile in quieter times a little discussion of past GG glory can be a bit of fun as well and keep us coming back for more until there is some fresh news on upcoming work, particularly that of Lauren and Alexis. The balance between these two topical themes seems well balanced to me and thanks to Arieanna for all her work!!
I’ve only been coming to this site for a week – I only saw the show for the first time last year so although for some it has been years and they are getting tired of discussing the topics etc, for me (and people like me, i’m sure) it’s all fresh and I enjoy coming here to see what others have to say.
I can find out what Lauren & Alexis are up to in other ways but this is the only place i’ve seen that still dicusses the show & i’m grateful to Arieanna for continuing with this!
As Lauren Graham just said in her interview – the show will be around forever! And will therefore be constantly picking up new fans and therefore continuing a market for this great site!
Sorry to rant – I just wanted to throw my tuppence worth in! ; )
This is a great Web site, please keep it up. I check it everyday and enjoy posting my thoughts. Yes, the show has been off the air for two years, but fans of the show will always want to discuss it and share thoughts and opinions. For those who say this site is over analyzing the show, I say leave. Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to be on this site. Besides, I see so many questions that are asked that parallel real life and experiences we’ve all gone through. It was a TV show, but it was one that has left a lasting impression on many of us. So to Arieanna I say, keep it girl! You are doing a fantastic job.
Thanks all – I really try to keep a balance here. If you’re not counting, there are usually 3 new posts every day. Of those, most are about what the current cast members are up to. Very few, in overall volume, are about Gilmore Girls discussions or trivia. But these posts get the most comments, so it’s something I’ll keep doing as long as there are angles we haven’t talked about.
It’s been harder to find interesting things to talk about in Season 6 – less pop culture references, and a lot more drama. So the discussions may seem similar, but I’m going in order, so that’s how it is. ;)
Arieanna keep up the good work girl!
Getting back to the original question – there are several posibilities the cross my mind. 1 rory is fickle and always has been. 2 she seems to go for bad guys like jess and logan over good like dean so maybe thats why and finally perhaps she just wants to see her parents together.
Arieanna (and anyone else that is interested) I am with those who say keep on the way you are going. yes it is nice to see what the cast are up to nowdays but the said this is afterall called the Gilmore girls news!
I live in England and only know 2 other people that have actully watched this show – this site gives me the chance to talk with others who appreciate the genious that is amy sp.
Would expanding the site be an option or not? perhaps a section for GG discusions, one for cast news, one for off topics and some sort of discussions thread – may be too big a job, not sure, just an idea for trying to keep all happy.
Arieanna, don’t change a thing! You’re doing an amazing job.
I understand that some people get tired of talking about it but in my case I found out about the show
last year and it’s really nice to be able to talk about it now because I didn’t have a chance to do so when it first aired.
I would be very frustrated if I couldn’t vent or share my thoughts about this amazing show.
Sure it’s just a show, but it is so special, filled with humor and amazing characters.
Nobody is forcing anyone to read any of the comments or the posts.
I agree with you Arieanna though: season 6 is maybe not the best to discuss, at least IMO…
Just want to say that I am like Claire and Mac who has just recently discovered the gilmore girls and am making my way through the seasons. I enjoy the posts and like mcityrk I think there is a good balance in them. Thanks for this Arieanna, I think you are doing a great job.
wow, i love gilmore girls call me a freak but i follow in rory’s footsteps i want to be succesful reporter , (journalist) like her and i love all the characters especially lorelai she is the best , never ever missed a single episonde ever !! i love gilmore girls oh and by the way (logan is gorgeous) i love rory and lorelai
