Why is Luke so angry in ‘A Vineyard Valentine‘? The episode, to me, is an essay in comparison of two relationships that are teetering on the future. Of Rory, looking brightly to her future with Logan, even considers that he may be “the one” for her. Of Lorelai, having to fight Luke at every turn with grumpiness and fearing that her own wedding just won’t happen. But the thing I never figure out – why is Luke so angry on the trip?

My huge list of ideas: Luke’s jealous of Logan’s money, he’s jealous of how easily Rory & Logan seem with each other, he worries about being away from April for the trip, he’s sad he’s never had a trip with his own daughter, he’s worried that Logan isn’t good enough for Rory, he is overwhelmed by lack of control in his own life (April, Lorelai), or… what are your ideas?
And why did Luke suddenly feel better about life after Logan gave Luke the present for Lorelai? How did that change his outlook on the whole weekend?

I think it’s his constant issue with feeling he isn’t good enough for Lor…
I agree. He sees Logan and how he’s pampering Rory and is so on-top of everything and feels inferior. He can’t afford some fancy trip like this and is completely uncomfortable in this lifestyle. Logan represents that world of money and class in which, as a diner owner, he feels he doesn’t belong. It’s like an echo of anytime he sees Richard and Emily.
I’m agree,Luke is so upset and he feel think that if Lorelai love Luke or not.
Luke drives me insane in this episode! I think it was due to his behaviour in this season that I became a bigger fan of Christopher.
I think it is a case that he is overwhelmed by his new situation (understandably) but instead of talking about it, he starts to turn on everyone he loves – except April.
I’m not sure that Luke is uncomfortable with the money or the fanciness of Logan & Rory, he seems very comfortable in his own skin usually. I just think it goes back to how he was before when she was with ANYONE – that they aren’t good enough; “Rory is like Pippi, she’s special”!
As for him and Lorelai – this is the only time we see him tell her he loves her – BUT HE DOESN’T EVEN DO THAT! He says – “You know I love you, right?” Which is horrible to hear – she does know but he never tells her, or is even very intimite or tactile with her!
I really started to lose respect for him in this episode! Sorry for the rant!!!
Luke’s behavior doesn’t make any sense to me in season 6.
But once again I blame the writers because his attitude throughout the whole season was completely out of character.
Luke has always been kind and thoughtful to Lorelai (and Rory) andthen he’s a total jerk, especially in this episode.
Urgh.
Luke’s behavior through mid-episode is right out of the here-we-go-again routine: i.e. moneyed people can not be trusted. However, once he stopped competing with Logan, he actually believed [maybe incorrectly] that he had met a rich guy who was not condescending towards him so he finally relaxed. It is unlikely this attitude would have remained that way over time, but Luke and Logan never interacted closely again.
Okay, seriously: Luke is just being Luke here. He’s grumpy cause he’s forced into a contrived situation where he’s supposed to act a certain way and he’s never taken kindly to this. This was the only episode in this god awful second half of the season where he actually shows how much he’s struggling with the whole April thing but that he still cares for Lorelei. Lorelei, unfortunately, can’t stand not being the center for attention and it clearly shows throughout this whole season. Honestly, I kind of think ASP sabotaged the whole relationship to leave the new executive producers with a huge mess to fix.
