In ‘The Perfect Dress‘, Lorelai seems discomfited that everything with the wedding is going smoothly… too perfectly.
In one day, Lorelai went from having no ideas to having the entire wedding planned out. At first, Lorelai is thrilled by the perfection of it all coming together so easily – from the date to the location to the dress, which started it all. Lorelai thinks it’s a sign – then it begins to snow (and we know what that means!)
Luke, meanwhile, is in a panic about the wedding being in just 5 months. He looks like he’s burdened with it, and maybe Lorelai picks up on that vibe. Later Lorelai tells Rory that she’s worried that being “too easy” may not be a good thing:
“What if the dress is really a bad sign and not a good sign? What if the dress is telling me that it’s so right it’s wrong?”
Rory reminds Lorelai that the snow never lies and that everything will be great – Lorelai won’t bail (which is her fear). Later, Lorelai is looking at her dress and thinks that Paul Anka is barking at it because something is “weird” about it. Luke comes home later, after a couple of talks with Anna, and seemingly eager to finally share his big news with Lorelai. However, Lorelai had been trying on her dress and decides to come down wearing it (despite Luke saying it’s “bad luck”). Luke doesn’t tell Lorelai anything….
So, was the dress bad luck? Is Lorelai right to suspect something is amiss with her wedding? Or does something only go amiss because Luke continues to be dishonest after seeing her in the dress? And how does the dress decide that for him?
