In ‘He’s Slippin’ ‘Em Bread, Dig‘, Lorelai and Rory are completely back to normal, like nothing happened. It’s just… too perfect. Too easy. Rory didn’t come back to Lorelai until she had her life completely planned – had a job, plans to return to Yale, and all that. They both apologized – Rory for being messed up, Lorelai for not pulling Rory out – and that’s it. Now life is completely back to normal.

I don’t know about you, but if I have a fight as mega as this fight was, there’s some residual tension for a while. There is a fallout – a lot of asking of questions and some anger. But none of that is here. Rory doesn’t blame Lorelai for staying away when she needed her. I can see Lorelai not needing to get mad at Rory, since Rory is now back to doing everything she wanted, but I’m surprised Rory isn’t still hurt by the fight.
What do you think? Was the reconciliation too easy?

I’ve been in this type of situation before. And I guess after a while of hating each other and everything, you just realize what you’re missing. It seems right to me that they go back to being perfect so fast… they just missed each other and they blame themselves now instead of each other, like they did…
Too easy is a bit of understatement, but after the long………. drawn ………. out……. boring….. plotline…… with……. Rory …… stuck …… at…… the …… grandparents…….. they had to do something quick and clean before they totally ticked off the fan base as well as some/most of the principal actors.
Better question: When the hell did everyone on the show start dressing so trendy and mainstream…weren’t they all supposed to be weird and unique? (Here’s lookin’ at you Rory)
I agree. They look all made up and sophisticated which would work if it fit with any of the characters. Wasn’t Lorelai supposed to be obsessed with sparkles and such? And I know Alexis Bledel was a model and all but all the make up and the clothes were just weird on Rory…and Season 7 got way worse.
I totally agree with Mel on the relationship issue.
Fashion – erm not sure – what the heck is lorelai wearing in the above clip? from what i can tell lorelais look was pretty consistant through out – well three looks to be precise. jeans and t shirt for hanging around skirt and blouse or dress for work and skirt and top of a more fancy nature for nights out (friday nights inc.)
Rorys fashion did change but i think this was due to growing up and trying to find her style. in the early days its jeans and t then we see a smarter phase at uni – which always baffled me – surely that is perfect jeans and t’s territory and then we move into the suits when she is in the i want to be emily phase. Finally when she move back in with lorelai she stars dressing a little more appropriately for her age.
Arg, the fashion thing always drove me nuts too! It happens to a lot of shows as they become more “mainstream”. For a show like Gossip Girl, it’s a part of the show from the start. But for Gilmore Girls, it just seemed too fake.
Gilmore Girls was endearing because of the “real” factor – like when Lorelai had to wear cutoff jeans and cowboy boots to Chilton because she ran out of clothes. And now they both wear designer clothes. I can understand growing up and looking nicer – but you can tell they are wearing expensive outfits.
I agree. What Rory wore defined who she was but once they changed her fashion it was like they change part of her aswell. I know that she was going to grow up and obviously become more fashion concious but I think it partly changed the way you perceived her.
They were apart for so long that their quick reconciliation was surely natural.
There is one thing I never understood: why did Lorelai apologize to Rory saying she was sorry and that she should have done something.
She had plenty of opportunities. Even Luke pushed her to do so. She’s the one who decided to shut Rory out.
Anyway, for me season 6 doesn’t make any sense for me, first with the whole Rory/Lorelai disaster and then with the sabotage of LL relationship…
