Did Emily's Party Help Rory Find Her Way?

I’ve always wondered that. In Gilmore GirlsThe Party’s Over‘, Emily and Richard throw Rory a Yale alumni party whose sole purpose was to find Rory a more suitable match than Dean (after they heard Rory was back with Dean). Although Rory was mad with Emily for sticking her in a tiara and parading her around to a bunch of boring-yet-suitable young men, she was very happy when Logan came to her rescue. Logan Huntzberger being one of those suitable-but-not-boring young men invited to come to the party.

By the end of the episode, Rory was so distracted by the fun she was having with Logan and his friends that she forgot to meet Dean… and when she did meet him, Dean saw the contrast between his life and hers so clearly that he broke off their failed attempt at rekindling their youthful relationship.

So, in this way, Emily’s party worked. It made a point to Dean, but it also made a point to Rory. That she had grown up, and sort of grown into, a new life, one in a higher social class than she was used to. Granted, she has (and will keep) struggling against this fact, but she seemed to glow in the social acceptance of Logan and his friends.

Did this party give Logan the opening he needed with Rory? Or was that simply inevitable anyway? And do you think Rory likes the wealthy life of her grandparents’ social circle, the life that Lorelai shunned? Or did using her family’s name simply give Rory access to a career she wanted?

I’ve always been surprised to see how Rory seemed to be blooming in the Gilmores’world and accepting it very well.
While Lorelaid has always despised this world and ran away from it, it looks like Rory has no problem with it.
I never really liked the influence Logan had on her for that matter. When she started dating him, it kind of changed her and Lorelai noticed it very well.
I don’t like how Richard and Emily butt in Rory’s life. Just like they will do then with Luke and Lorelai.
I don’t think the party helped Rory find her way because from the moment she started being interested in the Death and Life Brigade and started being close to Logan and his friends, she was already on a different path.
Personally I’ve always rooted for Marty. He was more like the guys she used to date.
Gradually I got used to Logan and realised it was not that bad but still I’ve never been a big fan. He was too different from her world, especially her mother’s world and all the values Lorelai had taught her.

Regarding Rory taking to the more luxurious life, i think this was a great piece of writting. Lorelai chose to go from rich to poor Rory decided to complete the circle by going from poor to rich. Well as far as finances go anyway (personally I think the life in stars hollow is somewhat richer due to the love and support as opposed to the judging in Richard and Emiliys world). I think it shows Lorelai’s true love for her daugher, despite the fact that she is turning to a life that lorelai shunned, she still stands by her.

I think the party probably was a catalist as it gave Logan a chance to sweep in when Rory was week, but it looks like it was probably just a matter of time any way.

I think Logan and Rory had profound affects on each other. Rory helped Logan to grow up and take responsibility (much needed). He showed her how to relax and enjoy life (although it goes a little too far at time such as the boat incident). Even if the two didnt stay together I think they would have had a lasting impact on each others personalities.

I feel that Emily and Richard’s party pushed Rory further in the direction she was already heading when she decided to go to Yale. I also feel that this party was a major turning point in Rory and Logan’s relationship. You always knew that they would end up together ever since their first meeting in the episode titled “Written in the Stars”. Also I feel that this party brought Emily and Richard closure to their own granddaughter.
