Samantha Who? 2.04 “The Building”

In this episode, Samantha (Christina Applegate) reluctantly agrees to team up with Regina (Jean Smart) and start a real estate business. She ends up in a romance with her handsome first client, Owen (Guest Star: James Tupper). Andrea (Jennifer Esposito) tries to seduce Todd’s (Barry Watson) disheveled friend, Seth, in order to obtain the phone number of a professional basketball player.
Also in news, Samantha Who? was picked up for a full season 2!
Samantha Who? Highlights:
- Sam attempts to steal food from her parents – she needs a job! She’s been trying to find a meaningful job, not one where she does bad things. The non-profits haven’t replied to her resume.
- Todd has a friend, Sam, who needs a place to crash. Aside from the fact that Sam tried to pretend to be Sam’s brother, he’s a little ‘sketchy’ and Sam is not happy he’s there
- Andrea apparently really hates Seth, and he gloats about being a lawyer for the Chicago Bulls
- After changing 3 times, Sam’s interview ends up being her mom – “BME – best mom ever”. Regina wants Sam to work with her to open a real estate business. Since Sam has a realtor’s license already.
- On agreement that there will be no lying or cheating in their new business, Sam agrees to help Regina sell the building she secured. Of course, Regina already had ads of them (as The Newly Sisters)!!
- Sam & Regina show the building to their first prospective client – Owen. Sam remembers how she would use her sex appeal to secure clients before, but refuses to do so now.
- Regina tricks Sam into agreeing to go to drinks with Owen, hoping Sam will “sell” herself, and the building.
- Sam tries to be completely professional & honest. Even tries to hold her jacket closed. It merely impresses Owen.
- Sam calls Regina “mom” by accident, so tries to brush it off as “mom-ster“

- Sam’s interest in Owen picks up when he says he went to Africa to help create potable water for areas with drought. She’s impressed by his charity.
- To further Sam, Owen tells Sam he’s planning on converting the building into a green living space for low income families.
- And next we see Sam in bed with Owen saying “Please don’t tell my Momster.”
- Sam tells Dena and Andrea about her fabulous night with Owen – not just the sex, but all the get-to-know-you stuff. Andrea & Dena make Sam think it was a one-night stand - either on Sam’s part or on Owen’s.
- Andrea is going to pretend to like Seth in order to get at her fave Bulls basketball player
- Regina, upset, tells Sam that Owen isn’t buying their building. Frank gets his kicks by making subtle references to Sam sleeping with Owen (he found out)
- Andrea asks Seth out for a date, and he agrees (despite Todd’s warning that something’s up)
- Sam is mad at herself for sleeping with Owen – confused about whether or not to read anything into him not buying the building.
- After convincing herself that Owen not buying the building made her sleeping with Owen not whore-ish, she feels like a prostitute when she founds out he will buy the building
- Sam confesses to Regina that she slept with Owen, when they both chase after her. Owen says he got a bad vibe from the other realtor, like he was hiding something. Owen offers to make it up to Sam by not buying her building. Kissing time!
- Andrea’s date with Seth is at Chili’s – not by choice. She tries to flirt with Seth but breaks down when he starts to bark. Seth was quite aware, however, that he was being used, so he played up his annoying traits. And offers Andrea Tony’s phone number freely. He thinks eventually Andrea will come back to him.
- Owen carries Sam home to her building – her pretty shoes hurt her feet. Such a sweet guy!!
- After thinking to herself how great it is to half self-respect, Sam lies to Todd and doesn’t mention Owen (why?!!) when he asks about her night
- Seth hints to Todd that Sam has a “roommate on the side”, which annoys Todd – does he still love her?!
