Discussion Questions:

  • Why didn’t Logan explain the "love rocket"?
  • Did Lorelai regret sleeping with Christopher?
  • Should Rory be worried about Logan’s fidelity?
  • Do you think Luke was being rational, wanting to discuss the situation with Lorelai? Why does she ignore him?
  • Is Lorelai overreacting? Did Luke "let her walk away" or did she leave him no choice?
  • Does Lorelai not want to talk with Rory about Luke because she fears Rory will blame her?
  • Why does the town go to see Taylor’s unveiling? Isn’t it silly to unveil a camera?
  • Do you think Rory is in an unfair position, not knowing what happened between her mom and Luke?
  • Do you think Rory should be in a long-distance relationship with Logan?
  • Why doesn’t Rory go to London to see Logan, like Lorelai suggested?
  • Lorelai suggested to just "figure it out" with Logan, so why didn’t she sit with Luke to figure out her own love?
  • Why did Chris read so much into his night with Lorelai?
  • Do you think it meant more to Rory to figure out the meaning of the "love rocket" with the Twilight Zone reference?
  • Do you think Logan wanted to keep Rory away? Why?
  • Luke stepped up to the plate in every way when he came back to ask Lorelai to elope – why doesn’t she go with him?
  • If Lorelai didn’t want Luke to know about Christopher, then why did she tell him?
  • Do you think the show ended without the "lalas" on purpose? Why?

I hope you enjoyed this discussion! As always, if you have particular questions you’d like to discuss outside these discussion points, please email me and I’ll get it up in a post! We’ll discuss the second episode of Season 7 on Thursday.

  1. Adrienne says:

I think it was sweet of Logan to give the Rocket to Rory. I don’t think he told her the meaning of it hoping she would know the meaning to it, or because he was hoping she would remember that night they watched the twilight zone.

I think Rory didn’t go and visit Logan in london when lorelai said to because she didn’t want to feel like she couldn’t handle the time away.. and she didn’t want to distract him when hes just starting his new job.

I think Lorelai thinks it was a mistake to sleep with Chris because she still loves Luke, and felt that there was the slightest chance that they could get back together. And I also think she told Luke about sleeping with Chris because she didn’t want the guilt inside her, and with the truth out she wouldn’t have to deal with it if it were still inside her.

I think the Lala’s at the end show growth, happiness, and excitement, but because it ended with lorelai telling the truth about what happened the night of their break-up, it wouldnt be appropriate. Why have the Lala’s at the end when the show ended with a depressed way?

  2. Tiffany says:

I think Lorelai realizes that her night with Chris was wrong and she shouldn’t have reacted so hastily. I think it was good that Luke came that morning to try to workout with Lorelai and he feels guilty for keeping April from her.

  3. marisa says:

I think that Lorelai should have gone with Luke to elope, but I understand she didn’t want him to know about Chris and her. But since she told him in the end, she should have said something then and seen if he still wanted to elope.
But none of this would have happened if Luke hadn’t postponed the wedding because of April. It had nothing to do with her.
But the love rocket was cute.

  4. sherry says:

I feel like Lorelai was acting like a spoiled brat when she gave luke that ultimatum and then she ran away to Chris which was a big mistake because I wonder if he didn’t take advantage of the situation on purpose-the never really showed what was said or done after she went to his house….they just showed her in his bed in the next episode…..you would think that she would’ve understood Luke’s position just finding out he had a daughter he never knew about and would have understood why he was so shocked. But i ask myself why she didn’t understand that she’s the one who offered to postpone the wedding. Anyway I think she told Luke she slept with Chris because that way it would be out in the open and she wouldn’t have to deal with the guilt and she still loved Luke and to a point wanted to still be honest with him. i personally think that she married chris because she felt pressured in paris and she was still confused about what she did and her feelings for luke so therefore she married chris…

  5. Jessica King says:

I’m agree with Sherry about Lorelai was kinda acting brat and cant be patient, when she gave Luke an ultimatum. But I understand that she is hurt from Luke.I think she feel bad for slept with Chris and still love in with Luke until 1 season.

  6. patty says:

I have always hated Logan and Christopher and always will. Logan wants to give Rory a sort of goodbye present and he gives her a rocket? Are you kidding me? He didn’t even tell her what it meant. He wanted them to stay in frozen animation forever together? That is just sad! Thank God they didn’t get married cause that would have been ugly.
Don’t even get me started on Christopher! He thinks that every single time he has sex with Lorelai that they automatically have to get married. Oh my God, what an idiot! He doesn’t even know how to be a dad. He always claims that he wants to be there for Rory cause he missed it with her. I agree with Rory in Season 3 Episode 2 when she says, “I’ve got Mom and that’s all I need. We are fine. Go be someone else’s Dad!” I love that! What I am trying to say is that Logan and Christopher ruin everything for Lorelai and Rory!

  7. Kati says:

I think that the whole “love rocket” thing was just stupid, and only there so they could have the title of the episode be “The Long Morrow” because that was the title of the Twilight Zone episode. However, “The Long Morrow” is a fitting name for this episode, because it shows the repercussions of what Lor does with Chris.

On the subject of the whole ultimatum, I think it was justified. I don’t think that Lor was acting like a brat or anything. I think she was truly tired of waiting, she was tired of skulking around and being someone she wasn’t. Namely, only being Luke’s fiancee when it was convenient to him (i.e. when April wasn’t around, and don’t get me started on the whole April thing…because that was just stupid and unnecessary.) So, I think that Lor was finally ready to get married, she wanted that life with Luke so badly, and suddenly she realized that he wasn’t ready, and quite possibly never would be. So she gave an ultimatum, and yeah, that messed things up…and her going to Christopher wasn’t the best course of action….but there again, I can see why she would do that. I mean this guy is the father of her child, he knows her, he’s a comfort in her life, and that is what she wanted/needed at that moment…comfort. Do I like where the whole Chris/Lor thing went….not so much…but you have to remember that ASP left it off like that, and Rosenthal had to remedy it somehow, even if that remedy sucked majorly.

As far as Lor feeling regret for sleeping with Chris…I totally think she did, this is why she didn’t want to tell Rory…she didn’t want to tell anyone, she was ashamed. And when Luke came back to ask her to elope…well that scene just breaks my heart, because I knew that Lor wouldn’t do it….because she couldn’t. She couldn’t just go on like nothing ever happened with Christopher. She had to tell Luke the truth. And really, he didn’t give her too much of a chance to try to talk things out, he just went on and drove off. Still, I really think that Lor was tired of the games and hoops she was having to go through to be with Luke. It did seem like all too much.

As for the camera thing….I didn’t think that was silly at all…I thought it was totally Taylor, and Stars Hollow, to the core. Remember when he unveiled the button to push to walk across the street and it was timed to the pace of Stars Hollow’s oldest citizen? That was like Season 2, because Lor was with Max….the whole town came out for that. The camera thing was totally fitting.

  8. Julie says:

I think Lorelai knew she was guilty for going back to her “refuge” once again (she had slept or turned back to Chris in “times of trouble” before), but still wanted to keep her promise to be true to Luke… even though he didn’t keep it (remember he found out about April right after he and Lorelai promised to be honest with each other, after fighting over Chris calling her… another reason to tell the truth?). To me, she felt she would really never have a chance to resolve things with Luke if she didn’t tell him the truth before anything else. Or he would never believe her again…
