Gilmore Girls Episode Recap:
Luke is having a hard time not micro-managing the renovation. Lorelai is trying to get rid of some old VHS movies, but has only found two to get rid of so far. Lorelai says the original commercials are half the fun of the old tapes. Luke suggests watching some of them, then throwing them out. But, if "someone" is not there for the Friday Night Special movie nights, it doesn’t feel right.
Rory is in her candy striper uniform. The maid is sent in to clean out Rory’s closet of all the summer dresses and flip flops, Emily wanting to "correct" Rory’s attire to be season-appropriate. Emily calls from Helsinki and Rory puts her on speaker phone while Rory tries to keep some of her clothes. Rory is not allowed light layers for Autumn. Emily can’t make it back for a DAR mixer, so asks Rory to step in. When Rory turns around again, the maid has disappeared and taken most of her clothes.
Jackson wants to baptize Martha and Davie, but Sookie is not religious and is very angry about it. Jackson thinks they need to have a bargaining chip with his mother since they are no longer planning on having more kids. Sookie doesn’t want his whole family staying with them, so then the fight turns to whose family is worse. Sookie gets a headache trying to do the math of how much more time they’ve spent with his family. Lorelai suggests that Jackson’s family stay at the Inn. Sookie has a post-baptism party to plan, so that part makes her happy.
Rory is hosting the DAR party at the Gilmore Mansion wearing a tweed blazer – she looks like a younger, slightly more trendy Emily. Rory is worried she didn’t stagger the release of the salmon puffs properly. Rory makes the rounds like a little socialite. When asked a question about a plant from a pair of ladies, Rory grabs her notebook from her pocket and some garnish falls out (she hid it there earlier to get it off the tray – Emily hates garnish).
Logan shows up to the party and seems upset to see the party in swing – he forgot about it. Rory decides to show Logan off, but he avoids their eyes and is monosyllabic in return to Rory’s introductions. They go to the kitchen where Logan immediately downs some Scotch. He’s not in the mood to deal with those kind of people, so goes to the pool house to wait for Rory.
Lorelai takes her take-out to the living room / bedroom and looks at "Riding the Bus with my Sister," the film she didn’t want to see without Rory. Lorelai picks up the phone
with a small smile and sigh, to call Rory. But, the number has been disconnected! Lorelai calls it twice to be sure.
Rory returns to the pool house to find that Logan has invited Colin and Finn over – along with Colin’s milkmaid. Who doesn’t understand English. And who Colin is now sick of. She’s hanging all over him adoringly. Finn is on the phone desperately trying to find himself a date. Colin jumps at Logan’s idea to go for dinner, suggesting Chinese food, since it has no milk.
Michel is scoffing at the "freeloading hicks" from Jackson’s family who are staying at the Inn. Jackson is late, and Sookie is not looking forward to greeting her in-laws – she gets too nervous. Jackson storms in saying they are coming. Jackson breaks to Lorelai that his brother Bo thinks Lorelai is a nymphomaniac, because Rune said she was a "horn dog."
So, when Bo comes strutting in, he goes up to Lorelai and says "Welcome to Bo" in response to her "Welcome to the Dragonfly". He tries to be all sexy when signing the register. Jackson and Sookie both apologize to Lorelai for Bo. Then Bo comes in, licks his key, and insinuates he’ll see Lorelai soon. Lorelai shudders.
Zack is waiting for his muse. He’s trying to write lyrics. Zack comes up with a tune (not lyrics yet), but Brian doesn’t read music, so he can’t write it down. And Lane doen’t have her cell phone for Zack to call and leave himself a message. So Zack repeats it over and over to himself.
Sookie comes to Luke to show him a wedding topper, vintage, that she found at the flea market. She thinks it’s perfect for Luke & Lorelai’s wedding cake. Sookie says the cake topper groom has Luke’s butt – that it’s fate. Sookie said she had a vision of their cake – white and sparkly with fondant daisies on top. Sookie asks Luke about the date. Luke reminds Sookie they won’t settle anything until things are resolved with Rory. Luke agrees Rory & Lorelai not talking is ridiculous, but he’s staying out of it. Sookie hopes it’s resolved before Luke’s butt falls and the topper is just kitchy junk. Luke catches Zack trying to use the diner phone.
Lane walks into her apartment and stumbles on boxes of computer equipment. Brian & Zack bought gear to record their songs - but they used the tour money that Lane had hidden in her underwear drawer. She’s very mad! She had been doing a lot of research on what to buy, and they went behind her back to get something without any planning. They went in for a micro cassette recorder for Zack to use and were up-sold. They spent all the money. Lane screams and goes to her room.
Michel thinks that Jackson’s family are freeloading – taking DVDs to burn and stealing the booze. He’s being "snark-astic" about it – Sookie & Lorelai’s new combined phrase. Sookie asks Lorelai to be Martha’s godmother. Lorelai is touched. Sookie tells Lorelai that both kids will be baptized at once and she’s going to ask Rory to be Davie’s godmother. Sookie says there is nobody she’s as close with as Rory to ask, and evades Lorelai’s suggestions of other people to ask. Sookie looks hurt when she offers Lorelai the chance to back out, so Lorelai says she’s happy to be Martha’s godmother.
Lorelai is in bed, but not sleeping. Lorelai gets up to pick a dress for the baptism, and asks Luke which dress goes best with a baby. Luke says the green one. Then Lorelai rants to Luke about Sookie’s ruse to get her back together with Rory. But she can’t say no.
Rory is also awake before her alarm goes off. Rory puts the pillow over her face at the prospect of seeing her mom. She holds up two dresses to Logan and asks which goes better with a baby. Rory arrives to Stars Hollow and looks around…
Rory pays a visit to Lane, who is trying to put together the recording equipment. They go to Lane’s room, where she now has a padlock on her underwear drawer. Rory notices a haircut Lane got a month ago. Lane likes Rory’s bangs. Rory hadn’t talked to Lane all summer, it seems. Lane says things are good with Zack, and he’s allowed to tell the bandmates they are having sex (though they aren’t). Rory tells Lane about how thrilling things are with Logan, who is now flying small planes for fun. Lane asks if it’s serious and Rory says it’s "seriously exciting." Rory is still happy with her decision to take time off Yale.
Rory is not sure that Lorelai will understand her choice. She doesn’t think Lorelai will talk to her, if at all, until she is back in school. Rory says she didn’t know that Luke and Lorelai were engaged. Lane assures Rory it will pass, that they needed a big blowout to make up for such a perfect relationship. Rory says she missed Lane. They agree never to leave it so long between talking.
The Belleville Baptism is to begin. Kirk comes up in the suit they buried his dad in, but Rory lets that pass. Rory notices that Sookie and Lorelai are flagging the door to the church. Jackson comes up to Sookie to say that his "former mother" has told him that he is also being baptized that day! As Jackson is venting about his family, Lorelai notices Rory. She watches wistfully as Rory walks over.

Sookie notices Rory and compliments on Rory’s dress to Lorelai, who agrees it goes well with a baby. Then Sookie dashes off asking Lorelai to say hi to Rory for her. Rory looks freaked out now. The Reverend spots them both and asks them to come to his office to talk – he likes to chat with the godparents. He says the godparents are vital figures in the spiritual upbringing of the children. He asks about their spiritual affiliation, but they admit to being a bit lapsed from religion as a whole. Lorelai says she’d choose good over evil, and Rory says she’s read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. He says their hearts are in the right place, and they came through when a friend called up. Lorelai takes pause at that, perhaps at the reference to "calling up."
Rory and Lorelai hold the babies as the baptism begins. Jackson has Bo stand in as his sponsor for baptism. Lorelai seems quite distracted. She stares at Rory or stares far away from Rory, but never smiles. When the Reverend asks Lorelai if she renounces Satan, she doesn’t hear him. Sookie has to nudge her on. Lorelai interrupts the ceremony to whisper if Sookie called Rory. Rory overhears, and it gives her pause in her renouncing as well.

Lorelai then directs her question to Rory, who didn’t like being talked about but not to. Lorelai asks how Sookie had Rory’s phone number to invite her.

Lorelai asks the Reverend for a private moment and they take the babies outside to discuss the issue:
"Look, it’s not like I really care. It’s not like I was going to call you up to make a date to go shoe shopping or something. But shouldn’t a mother have a way to contact her daughter, at least, in case of an emergency? I mean, what if I was in an accident and I had to have a blood transfusion and you’re the only person in the room with the same blood type. It would really help to have your phone number?"
Rory says they are interrupting the service. And tells Lorelai that she didn’t give Sookie her number – that Sookie called Emily and left a note, and she returned the call. Rory says she didn’t get a new number – she lost her phone. Lorelai thinks it’s ridiculous Rory didn’t know to suspend her service to keep her number if she loses her phone.
Sookie admits to Lorelai that she set up things to get Rory and Lorelai back together. She’s not mad at Lorelai for the drama at the Church. Lorelai goes to confront Bo, who is still making sexual overtures at her. He licks his thumb and wipes in on their clothes as a way to invite them to "go get out of these wet clothes." Lorelai tries to say it’s all true, but too much of it was true (aside from the nympho part), so she says it’s all true, she’s a horn dog, then leaves for potato salad.
Rory comes to say she’s leaving and to offer Lorelai her new number, if she wants it. Lorelai says it’s ok, she can call Emily and leave a note. Rory seems disappointed, and leaves.
Rory calls Logan on her way home. She admits things didn’t go particularly well, and thinks she’s not handling things well these days. Logan admits he feels the same way. That his father talked with him last week and told him he was to graduate Yale this year, get his act together and be a "Huntzberger" - to start attending shareholder meetings and let everyone get to know him at the company.
Logan asks Rory how far she is from the airport - suggests they just go to New York. By helicopter. Logan says not to pack, they can shop. Much more irresponsible. Rory has a "we can’t" tone in her voice, but Logan says he’ll see Rory at the airport and Rory agrees to see him there.
Lorelai is at home surrounded by take-out and junk food and is watching Rosie on "Riding the Bus with my Sister", but she looks very unhappy. Like she’s not even seeing it.
"It’s not the same…"
Lorelai pets Paul Anka and takes a bit of her licorice.
